《Fighting Back The Tide》Chapter Nine

Author Note: Sorry I haven't updated in the last few day I have been ill and feeling under the weather. I usually try to post one chapter a day so I will try to post more daily to catch up when I feel better.
Virginnia approached me with two girls in tow one was tall, slim and had long golden hair hanging loose down to the back of her thighs and the other was the complete opposite as she was really short with pitch black hair cut to shoulder length
"Robert this is Fran from the sports club and Annabeth from the library club. They my two best friends that I have know for years as we grew up together and went to the same primary school. They can be trusted completely. You said I could bring other to help if then could be trusted and here they are. They also wanted to get stronger as well and you will be leading us tomorrow and are the strongest what so you say goes" Virginnia spoke up to me a bit nervously. Maybe she was worried I would doubt her or change my mind and say they couldn't come
"Best friends huh? Just out of curiosity but do you have any ugly friends or are they all beauties like these two?" I asked her in a teasing tone. Without waiting for an answer from her or the two blushing girls I continue on speaking."I assume they also have no martial arts training? Have you properly explained the dangers to them? That we may be fighting unknown creature with no idea of their capabilities or strengths and weaknesses are as well as unknown number or disposition?"
Fran the taller one spoke up to me at that point " Virginnia hasn't sugarcoated anything and we are well aware of the risks involved. I have done kick boxing and karate for a few years so I am not completely helpless while Annabeth is an ace with a rounders bat and has a mean hit. We know this will be extremely dangerous and you will not be able to protect all of us all of the time but if we do not take a gamble to try and get stronger then we can never move forward."

"It is a gamble that if things go wrong could cost your lives but if you are prepared then I will not try to dissuade you as what we are doing is necessary and to be honest I could use the help I said bluntly. Basically we are going to raid the technology department for wood , nails and tools as well as anything else that can be used to reinforce our position. We will only fight monsters if we have to but in all honestly we probably will have to. Do each of you have weapons?"
"I have a wooden table leg with my things over by the wall" Virginnia informed me
"Ditto with the table leg"
"I managed to bribe one of the blokes for his baseball bat temporarily in exchange for some grub" Annabeth cheerfully spoke to me.
I made a mental note to keep and eye on Annabeth as she seemed to be a bundle of energy and entirely too happy all things considering. Probably putting up a tough front but it wouldn't do to go the pieces out there.
"Ok lets leave and make our way there. I will lead and Fran you take the rear. If I tell you to run back here even if it is to abandon me do it immediately ok?"
They all gave me an affirmative respond although it was slightly hesitant in the case of Virginnia. As we approached the technology department I saw a brown-green scaly creature which came up to roughly my waist height with a pig like snout and overly large point ears sticking out horizontally from its bald head. It was completely naked with a small club in its right hand and as its piercing evil looking yellow eyes spotted us it began hopping from clawed foot to clawed foot and making a load chattering noise.

Gremlin Level 5
Level 5 eh? Weaker then the Kobolds even. It is the only monster I have seen close up on this side of the academy but maybe the stronger monsters appeared on the other side as that was where most of the students were when the apocalypse started so as to be positioned better to kill us? How exactly was this 'dungeon' created and how many are there?
I swiftly stopped my thoughts from wandering and charged at the creature slashing its arms off to which it began shrieking even loader then the noise it was making a second ago while rolling on the floor.
"You three quickly kill it. The only way to gain experience and improve is to kill these monsters" I barked at the girls.
Never before have I seen girls being so bloodthirsty or vicious as they pummeled the creature. Over the flurry of blows and the cracking of bones I kind of felt sorry for the creature. When they were finished bludgeoning the monster to death I had a cold sweat appear as to say it was dead was a gross understatement. It resembled a cross between some sort of paste and a watermelon dropped from a great height.
"Ok check your status and tell me who got any exp."
"I did" came from Annabeth.
The other two looked disappointed which I told them not to worry as they was plenty more where he came from and lots of exp to be had for everyone. It confirmed that even though we were together and I had dealt damage that we were not recognized as a party so the one who deals the finishing blow gets the experience.
If the creatures were that weak this would be a nice farming ground to power level the girls up to improve their combat effectiveness and their usefulness to me.
"Ok listen up girls from now on I will try to disable the monsters we face so that you can get the kills. Obviously if we get in a bad situation then I will prioritize killing them as quickly as possible."
With that we went through the doors and entered into the building. It seems the Gremlins had heard the screams of their comrade and came to investigate as when we entered there were five by the doors. I immediately jumped into action kicking the nearest one in the chest knocking him back into the others and bowling them over like skittles and started hacking off arms and legs.
"Now kill them all" I ordered the girls while I walked forward and poked my head around the corner.
Seems we had stirred up a hornets nest as they were coming out the doors of the six classrooms in front of me.
