《FORSAKEN》Beginning. Prologue

「Ah! Onii-chan, good morning」
「Yeah, mornin’」
I woke up early, brushed my teeth, and did some morning exercises before coming into the kitchen to have breakfast with my little sister, Yui.
My life as Kusanagi Yami, a second year high school student, is just that simple…well, in the morning at least. My mom seems to still be sleeping, she must’ve shouldered another night shift yesterday. This is nothing out of the norm, she’s always been working extra hours and slept all day next day. Though I should really wake her up because she’ll be late for today’s work like this.
But oh well, I’ll let her rest. She’ll yell at me tomorrow, though…
Sitting into the small dining table, I picked up the sandwich Yui made and had a bite. The sweet taste of cheese and the moderate saltiness of meat mixed together and replenished the stamina I spent on morning exercising. It was delicious, as per usual.
「Hm? Ah yeah, of course, it’s delicious as always」
Seeing Yui’s nervous gaze pointing at me, I realized why she hasn’t eaten yet but instead stared at me. Though I thought it’s already a stated fact that Yui’s sandwiches are always delicious, seems like she still wants my impression on the sandwiches she made.
「I’m glad~」
Though if you didn’t count the fact that sandwiches are the only thing she can make…
Not trying to exaggerate things but, Yui’s cooking skills are abysmal. She once learned to make some kind of fish dishes for dinner and had me and mom spaced out, losing our consciousness almost instantly.
But the scary thing about her cooking isn’t just the taste and the aftereffects it leave on you, but it’s also about the fact that the dishes she made looked incredibly pretty and charming. It was to the point that me and mom were salivating.

But once we put it into our mouth……uhh, let’s not talk about that……
That said, I usually am the one who make us boxed lunch to bring to school, except for days when we have spare money to eat in the cafeteria, or days that our lunch is simply just sandwiches like today. Yeah, Yui is in charge of lunch today because it’s all sandwiches.
Having done with breakfast, we grabbed our lunches, put on our shoes, and left the house to school.
********************************************************************************
「It’s quite a nice day today huh…」
「Yes, it’s going to turn hot soon though」
「Right, we’re quite near the end of spring」
It’s been a while since my 2nd year at this high school started. At first I thought it was quite wonderful finally having a smooth-going school life before I step into real life. But half-way through my first year, things took a few turns for the worse, and right now I can only say one thing about my time here at this school
「……tch, school life sucks dick」
「HE?! Onii-chan?! Why are you swearing out of nowhere?!」
「Err, uhh, oops…?」
「Haaa…onii-chan really needs to fix that or you’ll never make any friends you know?」
「Uhh, um, y-yeah…」
Whoops, it’s my habit of vocalizing me cursing in my head out loud. I’ve been mistaking as a yankee because of this since forever. Before my dad died, he was a freelancer, so he came into contacts with various kinds of people in the back alleys, and I sometime did follow him to run some errand for pocket money. I guess that’s where I learned how to curse or swear.
Anyway, as you can see, hahaha, I’m… a loner…that laugh felt so pathetic coming from me…why am I so proud being a loner anyway. Well, it certainly has some benefits so it’s fine to boast a little. But mostly because of my background and the people I usually hang out with, I was labeled a delinquent since the middle of my first year in high school.

Yui, on the other hand, is worshiped as an idol of the school so they didn’t care about the fact that she’s related to a guy like me.
In fact, they treat me like a virus compared to the radiating 「Kusanagi-tan」, that’s why I said this school life sucks quite badly.
But then again, based on how Yui interacted to her surrounding, I don’t think she likes being the center of attraction like some kind of exhibition goods. In reality, on some rare occasions when I passed by Yui and got some hostile glares back at me, I saw her putting on the hollow, business-like smile while being surrounded by her fans.
OKAY. Enough whining early in the morning, it’s Monday too. As long as I can survive the hostility after one school day, I win. That’s the deal everyday, and I got used to it, so there’s no worries.
「Onii-chan…making that face means you determined to sneak into some gloomy corner of the school during break times again…?」
「U-Ugh. W-Well you see, isn’t that the plan for everyday?」
「Why don’t you just try talking to someone instead?」
「I already have a frie…oh he’s here. Yo!」
I raised my hand sluggishly at another dude walking towards this direction to head to school like us. He’s good looking, he has a gentle look on his face, he’s also a high achiever in academic areas. In other words, a complete opposite polar of myself.
「Yami…that yankee face again in the morning…」
The dude smiled wryly at me and immediately judged my face.
Oi, if you were to judge why did I look like this, go complain with my parents! My face when I’m bored is just like that, I can’t fix that.
Aside from pissing me off from time to time, he’s a person that I can somewhat call a…friend?
Though he’s the male basketball team captain, he’s, for some reasons, also a loner and didn’t really have any close friends to hang out with. Thus we occasionally talked or drank canned coffee together.
With this guy, Takigawa Hiroshi, joining us, the conversation brightened up a bit because he’s quite knowledgeable and has many topics to start a conversation. Just like this, we walked towards our high school.
I wonder what kind of bullshit is lying in wait for me at school.
I thought so while walking and talking to Yui and Hiroshi, not knowing that a whole series of stupid events were seeking my participation at school. And by 「seeking participation」, I mean it forced me into the mess…
