Chapter 25: Rest
Fang had never felt so good, but his excitement quickly faded away as he realized he was naked and Valeria wasn’t very far from the tub. He reached for his clothes when Valeria interrupted him.
“Don’t put on your clothes yet, come over here.”
“?”
Valeria tapped the glass next to her. “The energy bath isn’t fully complete yet, there’s still the last step left.”
He didn’t know much about how this worked, so he headed next to her.
From a ring, she extracted a white, opaque bottle, then dropped a drop of a purple liquid that she spread on Fang’s chest. The liquid seeped into the skin and contrasting that fiery hot that he felt, cooled him down.
She explained as she poured another drop out, “You’ve just absorbed the energy, and not all of it is fully kept by your body. As time goes on, it’ll leak out, and the loss builds up to be very serious – so, this mixture containing Snow Dragon blood will prevent that.”
But he struggled to hear, unable to focus at all with the slender creamy hand wiping down his chest. Embarrassed, Fang quickly protested, “Lady Valeria, please don’t trouble yourself, I’ll apply the tonic by myself.”
“Are you sure about that? This involves complex manipulation, detecting the hot spots of energy within your body, otherwise, it might as well be useless.” She turned her attention towards his back. “As well, I only own a total of five bottles containing the Snow Dragon blood, each costing at least hundreds of thousands of gold. Due to the danger of collecting this material, it hasn’t been put up for auction very often, and these bottles were all that were sold during the last two years.”

Hundreds of thousands of coins!
Fang froze in shock, as his savings totaled around fifty gold coins, where ten gold coins would be enough to comfortably rent an inn room for a couple of months. And Valeria had spent hundreds of thousands of gold, wealth he couldn’t imagine, just to help maintain his energy!
By applying it himself, he could waste that money in ignorance, so he had to relent. “Then, I’ll leave it to you.”
Awkwardly, he waited as all of the medicine was applied. Once all the visible energy dissipated from sight, Valeria stoppered the vial. Fang immediately asked, “Lady Valeria, is there anything else?”
“No, we’re done for today.”
As if his life depended on it, Fang hurriedly put on his clothes as Valeria let out a small smile at his actions.
After Fang had finished dressing, Valeria looked at Fang. “The effects of this drug and absorption should take nearly a month to fully process, but you still need to practice to simulate it. Take these daily supplements as well.”
Ten bottles appeared and she handed them to Fang, carefully clarifying the time and dosage. Reminded of the date, Valeria turned towards Fang again. “Oh, and since the energy tower isn’t open on holidays, you can stay the night if you’re willing to, and train early morning. Of course, if you’re uncomfortable with that, I’ll let Rhodes pick you up tomorrow morning to carry on as well.”
Fang thought about it when Valeria interrupted his thoughts once again. “Also, you don’t have to be so formal with me; Valeria is fine, after all, we’ll be seeing each other very often in the future for a long time.”
Hesitating slightly, Fang replied, “I’ll stay the night, if it’s okay, Valeria.”
“It’s getting late, so I’ll go prepare a room, while you can wash yourself off now.”

Due to the bath, Fang did smell, so he nodded and started to head towards the bathroom.
After the bath, he was accompanied by the waiting secretary to escort him to his room. Climbing a set of winding stairs, he arrived in a room off to the side. Looking inside, he saw Valeria preparing the bed, spreading out blankets.
Since his parents had died, the only person who had prepared the bed for him was Mii, so to see Valeria prepared his bed sensibly, he felt touched. Hearing footsteps, Valeria turned around. “Oh, there you are, I was just tidying your room – is it satisfactory?”
Fang took a closer look; the decorations were simple, and the room gave off a homely, warm glow that gave a quiet atmosphere to the place. “It feels very pleasant.”
“Does it… it’s my brother’s bedroom.”
Taken aback, Fang held onto a nearby chair. “What?”
To hear that this belonged part of Valeria’s family, surely, it wasn’t an appropriate place for a visitor. Moreover, from Blue, he heard that Valeria’s father and brother had been killed in that disaster, thus, the only memoirs remaining would be in this room.
“Valeria, could I change to a different room?”
“Are you sure?” Valeria indifferently said, “Any other room in this house is relatively large compared to this one, as my father liked it that way. However, my brother and I had preferred smaller rooms, and so, these two rooms are the only small ones in the house. Unless if it disturbs you to be in a place where people had once lived, which I can arrange another room for you.”
She took in consideration Fang’s past, where losing his parents, in a large mansion he must have felt as lonely as she did.
Fang quickly responded, “No, I’m fine.”
“Then, good night, if you need anything, I’ll be in the room beside yours.” Valeria walked out of the room. “You must be tired, get plenty of rest and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
She closed the door.
Fatigue set in as Fang drowsily laid down on the soft, warm bed. Although it was the first time staying in this strange place, he didn’t feel unsettled at all. The pleasant scent and warm, simple furnishings reminded him of a time of a certain happy family, laughing together as they fell asleep.
Soothed, Fang fell asleep.

Kind’s Kiss
MAGIC DOESN'T KILL, NOT BY ITSELF. IT NEEDS A LITTLE HELP. Jessica DeRidder is a substitute teacher and mage in hiding, her daughter Ellen a killer on the run. Their next job lands the mother-daughter team in Hellhole, a small town in the middle of nowhere. All they need to do is their job. For Mom to identify the problem, and for Ellen to... fix it. Easy. Simple. But not this time. The pair find themselves caught in the struggle between the Man-in-White and the Wicked Witch of the West. A mysterious image and the theft of a deadly flower lead the pair to a score of dead prisoners, magical drug dealers, and red-eyed assassins falling from the sky. And somehow it all seems to be related to Ellen's murky past. All Ellen wants to do is do her homework, eat ice cream, and protect her newfound friends (not necessarily in that order). She'll go all-in, guns blazing. But when the smoke clears there may be nothing left but a stranger's past and a lonely future. --- 'Kind's Kiss' is a light, modern-day fantasy, easy on the magic, heavy on the snark. Though complete it is still a work in progress. One reviewer described it as 'Buffy meets Sabrina, as done by Tarantino'. I'm still not sure if I should consider that a compliment or hire a hitman :-)

Heaven Falls
-Book One Synposis- Vorlanys. A realm created by the angels for mortals. For millennia, many angels have lived amongst the mortals, aiding the mortals in their advancement. The High Angel Forynda has only tolerated this, however. She is concerned that ultimately the flaws of both angels and mortals would combine to create a cataclysm that would shatter both Vorlanys and the angels' home realm of Ceuna. Tragedies, unforeseen by any mortal or angel, set in motion that long-feared calamity and hurtle both worlds toward an irrevocable conflagration. Neither will ever be the same. Follow the lives of multiple characters, from lowly inhabitants of minor villages to the angels of Ceuna themselves, as they experience this approaching doom. *** -Book Two Synopsis- Ceuna has divided. Angels and mortals have taken their sides in a war for the fate of Vorlanys. Forynda, the High Angel and ruler of Ceuna, intends to end the entire struggle in a swift and decisive stroke with her awesome power. Meanwhile, the dissident angels, led by Omonrel, and their mortal allies cling to a thin hope that fate will break in their favor. All hopes for a quick end to the conflict will soon be dashed, however, to the detriment of all sides. The war for Vorlanys will take on a frightening new turn while mortals and angels alike discover previously unknown truths about their reality. ~~~ Some additional comments for readers: This is a project with a very ambitious arc encompassing a huge number of characters over a long period of time. If you are looking for a tight focus on just a handful of characters, that's not this story. It is meant to provide a broad series of perspectives on an absolutely calamitous world-shaping war. Thanks for reading and be sure to leave comments, ratings, and reviews at your convenience. I love hearing from you.
