《An Average Zombie's Path of Evolution》Chapter 17 - The Crimson City

In my hands I was inspecting the mysterious baseball bat, It was a little heavier than normal steel, however the difference was not much. I exerted all my arm strength on it and only managed to bend it a little. Several small bumps were already formed on it from my battle, even though my strikes weren't heavy enough to cause significant damage to it, they were sharp enough to slice steel...what, is this thing?
Trying to satisfy my curiosity I start to carefully inspect the bat.
An imprint on it read Spirit Tool | Series: 12 Experimental stage(1) Umbrella Corp.
Something about this gives me an eerie feeling… however I simply toss all feelings and thoughts aside, as an undead I shouldn't be thinking this much.
The sound of an suddenly engine roars in my direction. Even before the horde arrived several people were already breaking through the blockades with their vehicles trying to rapidly flee and avoid an unsightly situation. Whether many were successful in their escape, I don’t know nor do I really care. They, in the end made breaking through the city much easier.
Upon the collapse of the outer city defences, many survivors/civilians realized fleeing was a much better alternative than staying and defending, by now several armoured vehicles roared throughout the city, forcefully breaking through blockades and other obstacles impeding their grand escape.
*Vroom* *Vrooooooooooom*
The vehicle continued its trajectory even after facing several scrapped cars in their way.
Seeing the vehicle has no intention of stopping upon seeing my presence, a cold mocking sneer formed on my face.
A large yellow reinforced school bus is rapidly roaring towards me, I lightly prepare my feet to lunge forward, at the same time my eight blade whip like tendrils stretch back like an octopus preparing to thrust forward in the deep ocean water.
When the bus neared me by eight meters, My legs finally pushed forward and thrust my entire body towards the front of the bus. The large frontal windows were reinforced by small and thin steel bars. My body easily punctured through them like a speeding bullet, as my body broke through the front windows the driver looked in my direction with a shocked and terrified look. In slow motion I gave him a small satisfied and mocking smile.

*Slash* *Slash* *Slash* *Slash* *Slash* *Slash* *Slash*
As my body flew towards the back of the bus, my tendrils kept on slashing back in forth, turning the entire bus into a large Human blender. Men, Kids and women; over twenty five people turned into Quartered bodies in less than ten seconds.
My body quickly broke through the back of the bus. The bus now took the appearance of a shredded can, flames rapidly roared out the shredded bus, followed by a forming smoke cloud.
‘Phew, that was exhausting. Never doing that again.’ I tell myself.
I really overexerted my kagune, and all my back/leg muscles. I rapidly sunk back into my back as extreme hunger took over my body again.
I headed towards the baseball guy’s corpse and sunk my hands in his pocket, In it I found a small black cellphone, on it’s cover is the a logo that indeed looks like the top view of an umbrella, four sections of it are colored red, while the other four are white.
I try to access it but It doesn't turn on. I try slipping in my pocket before realizing I’v been naked all this time.
*Crush*
I accidentally crushed the device.
“Damit, shit!”
“...”
I’ll just eat this…
Meanwhile...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile - At a school district - At Some random school’s courtyard.
“Run!” “Run!”
“I’ll meet you up at…”
“Mommy!, Where’s Mom!?”
“Tim!” “Where are you tim!”
“Shit!, they're coming!, run!”
A little kid frantically looking for his mother finally spotted her, as he made his way between running people and being tripped several times they finally reunited.
*Sniffle* “mom!”
The woman carefully picked up the kid.
“Tim, don't worry I’ll alway…”
*Pwooft!*
Before she finished her sentence a large chunk of concrete crushed the mother and kid.
A large three meter tall zombie with enormous muscles began rampaging around the school’s courtyard picking up objects and ripping of chunks of walls and launched them at people indiscriminately. He casually picked people and slammed them on the ground turning them into meat patties.
Zombies neared the meat patties, but instead of devouring them they began carrying them.

A strange event was overtaking the city, as everyone was almost casually slaughtered a multitude of zombies began picking up corpses and began carrying towards the center of the city.
The city began falling apart. Multiple small strongholds were demolished, large zombies broke open every defence flooding them with zombie hordes. School fortresses began to panic leading to their own demise.
Only one stronghold remained, ammunition and supplies were constantly supplied to it and thousands of civilians heavily supported it. The Church of the Lord,It was located near a school district; Now that all the school’s had fallen all the nearby zombies began sensing the intense life signatures of this location and began frantically walking in it’s direction.
It was a large megachurch structure, large walls protected the inner structure, as for the outside. Hundreds of soldiers carefully guarded the fence, right now they were tightly gripping their weapons hearing the large amount of groans and footsteps heading towards them.
“Fear not!, for the Lord is with us!”
A man wearing a Pastor uniform yelled, his voice flooded the church and reverberated throughout the whole district. A ray of light literally bended in his direction as it illuminated the top of his bald head, giving of a golden holy glow.
With a stern look on his face he looked outside, upon seeing his followers cheering a look of contempt appeared on his face.
He then turned towards a rapidly approaching zombie horde. Anger replaced his contempt.
“You Vile creatures!, daring to attack god's land, I will cleanse your souls in the name of the Lord!”
Hundreds of faces looked at the pastor in admiration. While they did not knew his actual background, his divine abilities had convinced them that he was really an apostle of god himself.
However, not even an apostle of god would be able to save them.
The Pastor began forming light orbs in his hands, as he shot them at the hordes small yellow light explosions turned several groups of zombies into simple piles of flesh without purpose. Not all the zombie’s were affected though, some didn't even faze at the light while most of the others only faced a small decrease in speed.
The pastor looked in horror as he saw how little effect his attacks had. He had faced several zombie’s since the apocalypse and had absolute faith in his attacks, After he took over the church stronghold he stopped killing zombies and began to spend his time preaching to his followers.
Unfortunately for him, most zombies had began gaining higher strength compared to the beginning, If humans stop improving themselves they will eventually be wiped out.
From a distance a huge smoldering city was visible, Loud screams resonated from it constantly attracting new zombie hordes from a distance.
The city had finally fallen, only a few managed to escape from this first of the many following disasters humanity will have face.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Central city, Commercial district.
Inside a large commercial district, hundreds of undead carried corpses and/or dismembered organs towards the center of a large marble courtyard. Hundreds of corpses piled up meters high, large muscular zombies then proceeded to crush the giant pile of organic matter together into a circular meatball.
Over time the meatball started pulsating, small blood vessels formed on it as a hundreds of bones formed a protective ribcage around it. The meatball began rapidly changing, each time more closely resembling a large human heart.
After an hour it Became a large six meter tall heart. Thousands of purplish-red vessels extended from it and began covering the entire city like vines.
An eerie loud heartbeat began resonating throughout the entire blood red city. The loud thumping was audible to all the zombies in the entire state. As if a sweet melody, it began attracting thousands of undead hordes, they began making their way to their new beloved home.
The first Crimson city had formed, a heaven for all undead and a nightmarish land for all the living. My new home, my only place in this world.

The Orb Weaver Chronicles
"The Orb Weaver Chronicles contains several major and unique events that may or may not unknowingly intertwines with one another. The author of these chronicles is unknown, although some have hinted at the symbolism behind its name..." - Year unknown, location unknown 9 February 2022 Update: Welcome to the companion short story compilation of my novel trilogy The Shadow Paradigm. This compilation features prequels, sidequels and sequels to the novel's major plotline, as well as featuring a wide range of characters, new and recurring. Prior knowledge of the novel is not necessary as the Orb Weaver Chronicles' short stories are standalone. Once called The Arkesyyan Chronicles, I've deleted quite a few of its old stories. Due to the new avenue and revision, oriented toward more mystery and film-noir ambience, that I took my stories into, I've removed all aliens and overly sci-fi aspects of the whole TSP lineup, so I've updated the Orb Weaver Chronicles accordingly. I hope you enjoy them, and in time, a revised version will also be updated.
