《Reincarnated as a Pillbug monster》Chapter XI: [Skill Check] again?! Oh, and there's magic...

Lying on my shell, I'm enjoying the night's light breeze. Even if this planet doesn't have anything like the moon,
the night sky is still filled up with countless beautiful stars that shines brightly.
I don't know if seasons even exist in this world, but for some reason, nights are starting to become colder and colder.
Too bad the days are still unbearably hot...
Anyway, Leafy is currently evolving, I suppose ?
I'm not sure, when we finished cleaning, we had a light snack and were preparing to go to sleep when suddenly,
bright greenish string-like things started coming out of his body. When they become about half of his height long,
they started to wrap around his body until he ended up looking like some kind of light green egg.
It's been a few hours since then, but nothing interesting happened. Even my [Status Check] only shows [???],
like if you don't know, then how the hell am I supposed to make sense out of it...
Haaaa, this is why I can't fall asleep, I'm both worried and excited...
Well, since I won't be sleeping anyway, I could check other things like stats,
new skills and even how is my evolution tree doing.
Ok, let's start !!! [Status Check]

Title:
[Assassin:Lv1]
[Instructor:Lv1]
Hmm...
Hmmm...
Hmmmm...
It's improving alright, but still... Not only did I level up 9 times from killing those small fryes,
I even got two new skills while doing it.
Normally, I would scream "Nice!!!", but my stats changed so little that it's making me disheartened a little...
Actually, I never give it much thought, but how does leveling up even works in this world ?
I understand that doing things, or killing things give you exp, and when you're exp reach a certain number, you level up.
And when that happens, your stats improve a little bit.
Problem is, how much exp do you need to level up, does this number stay the same or changes after each level up ?
Currently, this is impossible to observe, no matter how you think about it...
And then, there are the stats... Even if they barely change at all, a small change still happens.
However, it's impossible to observe how much does the stats change after each level up,
since I usually level up two or more levels at once...
Hmm, however, it's still possible to theorise based on the information I got from me and Leafy.
The most obvious thing is, that based on what race you are, your stats will change differently after you level up.
Ok, let's take Leafy for example. After each level up,
his stats that change the most are Agility and Defense, after that are Attack and Magic.
However, his HP barely changes at all, making him extremely fragile and woundable...
In case of brown pillbugs, I think their Defense and HP are the stats that rise the most.

In case of red ones, probably Attack and Magic... And so on...
I come to this conclusion by comparing their stats and their racial description.
Green for speed, brown for defense and red one for attack.
Blue one is probably the balanced type, but in this environment it has a smaaaall FATAL weakness.
Even my current race could be considered a balanced type, but without the blue ones weakness and a level cap,
it's a perfect starting race. And I quote "starting"...
That is because if I have the misfortune to meet a high level red pillbug, or even it's next evolution,
I'm dead as a doornail... There is just no way that a lowly jack could beat a specialised opponent.
That's why I'm a little bit cautious about my evolution, I don't want to make a decision that I would regret down the line.
Preferably I want a evolution that is specialised in speed like Leafy, but doesn't sacrifice my defense for it.
[Race skill [Thought Acceleration:Lv1] acquired]
Eh ? Eeeeeh ?! What's this all of a sudden ?
A new skill out of nowhere, just like that ?!
Yep, I'm not complaining...
Well, since we are on the topic, let's check those new skills out,
I also still need to check those Titles (I was interrupted last time)...
Well then, without further ado, let's begin !!!
[Skill check [Evasion:LV1]
[-Skill name: [Evasion]
-Skill type: Learnable type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Dodge opponent's attack 25 times.
-Skill effect: Increase the reflexes each level (+2 Agility),
Increase the probability of evasion against unexpected attacks (+1 Luck).]
Oh, I see. Condition for acquiring this skill is quite straightforward, just dodge the attack 25 times and there you go.
Even the effect is quite straightforward, it increases my Agility and probability of evasion...
Come to think of it, this is the first skill that actually improve my stats. And one of them is my Luck stat,
something that was complete zero up until now.
I need to increase the level of this skill as much as I can, it's unbelievably useful...
Now, let's see the other one...
[Skill check [Accuracy:LV1]
[-Skill name: [Accuracy]
-Skill type: Learnable type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Inflict critical damage to the opponent 10 times by attacking their weak spots /
Inflict damage to the opponent 10 times from a distance of 5 or more metars.
-Skill effect: Increase the probability of inflicting critical damage
and increase the probability of hitting the target from a distance (+1 Luck).]
Oh yes, another skill that increase my Luck stat. Hmm, from this skill and [Evasion],
I can safely conclude that the Luck stat stands for the probability of something good happening to me, hence the name, Luck.
Quite convinent and useful thing to increase...
But, honestly, I'm surprised how useful something basic like [Evasion] and [Accuracy] can be even at LV1.
They could become a beast of a skill at higher level. Well, since I don't have the means to attack from a distance,
the only way to increase skill proficiency of [Accuracy] is by inflicting critical damage...
Nevermind, I'll manage somehow...
Anyway, let's see what's this new skill that just popped up just like that...

[Skill Check [Thought Acceleration:LV1]
[-Skill name: [Thought Acceleration]
-Skill type: Soul type skill
-Condition for acquiring: Acquisition, comprehension and usage of large amont of information.
-Skill effect: Increase the speed of thought each level by 5%
(Only lifeforms that have a large Ego can aquire this skill).]
.....
....
...
What the actual flying duck is this skill ?! Soul type ? This is the first one I got that is this Soul type....
No, actually, how many different types of skills are there even?!
The one I know of are Race type, Resistant type, Learnable type, Unique type and now Soul type.
I just hope that those are all of them, any more and it will be a pain in the ass to remember them all...
Anyway, back to the skill... Condition for acquiring, incomprehensible. I still have no idea why I got this skill.
Well, at least the effect is easy to understand and it sounds quite useful. I'm not gonna complain about it.
But the weird thing is that I didn't get any new information when I acquired the skill like with the others.
Does that means that there are skills that does not provide any information when you get them or level them up ?
Looks like there are still a lot of unknown things about all of this, but at least I'm learning about it slowly...
The most important thing for me to do is to comprehend my skills,
use them to the maximum and survive this stupid predicament I ended up in. Thats all there is to it...
Anyway, enough about that, let's also check my titles. This should be quite interesting,
since they just appeared out of nowhere and didn't do anything visible...
[Skill Check [Assassin:Lv1]]
.....
....
...
..
Wait, don't tell me...
[[Title Check] is currently unavailable]
[[Title Check] will become available at [Status Check:LV5]]
Oh come the fuck on, I was really looking forward to this !!!
And now I have to wait until it levels up, which could happen who knows when...
I still have no idea how to raise the skill proficiency for [Status Check].
My one and only, Unique type skill...
Ugh, let's move onto the evolution tree, at least there should be some new interesting things...
[Current possible evolutions: [Earth Isopoda] [Nature Isopoda] [Fire Isopoda] [Water Isopoda] [Large World Isopoda]
[Wind Isopoda] [Mana Isopoda]]
Oho, looks like the last two possible evolutions have become available to me.
And they are the wind type and... a mana type ?
I understand the wind one, probably similar to the other ones, but what about this mana one ?
What, is it like a magician or something ? Shooting fireballs and manipulating the elements at will ?
Now this is getting interesting, let's check them out asap !!!
[Wind Isopoda - Requirements: World Isopoda Lv15 - An Isopoda that can split its shell in half to reveal its wings.
While they can't fly because of their mass,
they can use their wings to jump high and then use their split shell to glide through the sky.
Because of their wind attribute, they can use basic [Wind Magic] to help them glide easier,
while using their wings to change their altitude.
Because of their attribute, their shell is white with a shade of green.]
Aaaaah, I forgot how barebone the explanation for each new evolution is...
I mean really, other than being able to jump high, glide and use [Wind Magic], I have no idea about anything else.
I can only speculate... I wonder why this didn't bother me first time around,
is it because I didn't take all of this seriously at that time ?
Anyway, it sound nice, but its not something I need right now...
NEXT !!!
[Mana Isopoda - Requirements: World Isopoda Lv25 - An isopoda that becomes able to perceive the magical energy
in the surroundings, absorb it and then use it to cast basic magic spells that doesn't require an attribute.
There are no other differences between [Mana Isopoda] and [World Isopoda] other than their color, which is black.]
Basic and simple and always.
Anyway, it's less of a mage and more of a race that could perceive and use the magical energy in the surroundings.
But wait, how do you even perceive the magical energy ?
Do you need some kind of special organ or something or can any kind of schmuck perceive it as long as they know how ?
I never really gave it much thought, but this world has magic.
It's such a foreign concept to me, but if I could learn how to use it, it would help me tremendously...
But how do I perceive this magical energy in the first place ?
.....
..........
Wait, wait, wait!!! If I think about it a little,
something like an organ to store the magical energy sounds absurd as the magical energy itself.
Maybe you need some kind of special organ to perceive it, but you don't need anything like that to absorb it, right ?
Not to mention, I already know that souls and shit exist,
so I shouldn't keep my old logic and common sense nor should I try to.
But it's also a bad idea to just straight up discard them...
Then I should just modify them a little whenever it suits my needs.
Thats sounds perfect...
Anyway, back on topic. I don't need to perceive the magical energy to absorb it,
so even I, right this moment could do it if I tried.
Hmm, but how do I absorb something that I can't even perceive ?
Let's see if there is something I could use as a reference from my old (previous) life...
From what I understand of this world, folk magic isn't something I'm looking for.
For that, something like spirits would need to exist and as far as I know, they don't exist.
Maybe in the future, but since this world is still young, you never know...
Voodoo is quite similar to the folk magic so that is also out of the picture...
Hmm, I did read a few novels and books that had magic themes in them, but no matter how detailed their magic system was,
it's not gonna help me right now...
Then what about those martial arts and their meditation and shit? A bit of a stretch, but it's my biggest bet...
Well, it's a start, and I won't be going anywhere with this without trying anything that I come up with,
so meditation it is !!!
Now I'm not even sleepy anymore...
Well, since Leafy isn't coming out of that egg and there's still time until the sun starts to rise, let's try meditating...

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
