《Rise of Anubis - LitRPG Fantasy(DROPPED)》Ch.5 Death Craves Life

When looking into the pool of water on the cave floor, terror stared back. Of course, I knew it was me and that train of thought led me to understand I am a true reaper of death. I saw my Aligator-like head, my four eyes that seem to be the embodiment of cyan fire. My clawed hands that I can transform into a barbed spear for piercing hard and tough enemies. You would think that a being of shadow would not be able to attack however I can will any parts of my body to condense and bring black steel-like armor or weapons. I tested my self of the stone, bats, and centipedes within the cave. After killing about 3/4ths of the cave population just enjoying myself killing as a demonic-looking genie. I wonder if I can fool people, saying I will grant three wishes then twist their words like the evil genies from the old movies from before. Maybe I will be like the goofy genie from the classic, Aladin?
…
After thinking about my self-existence for a while, I decided it was time to kill more things with soul-fire. I knew about death fire and figured it was the same thing however as Anubis from before, I never really got into the habit of fighting and was mostly just researching. I summoned a cyan ball of fire and threw it at the stone cave wall. It froze the wall with translucent black ice that seemed to spread about 6 feet or 2 meters in every direction. Being as a 9ft/3m black shadow monster that was quite a large effect. However, I could feel the power before I even threw the ball of cyan flames. I could sense it’s capabilities in both power and range. Muahahaha, I am the evil demon genie Richard fear me and feel my mighty power… I should stop. I then summoned another ball of flame but instead of throwing it, I condensed it, further and further. It went from the size of a basketball to a bowling ball, then smaller and smaller to the size of a marble. I could feel the emitting cold from the ball of soul-fire. I sensed that it had about 5 charges within and that each charge added the destructibility increase from 200%, 150%, 100%, 50%, and then 50% again. However, I could also sense the mana cost increased just the same. By the time I was done it went from 45 mana cost to 184 mana cost. I sent the ball towards the entrance hitting the wall next to the exit. The ball exploded into a tsunami exploding sending cyan flames towards every direction. I quickly put up a wall of shadows in front of me. The fire in masse rammed into the wall and made me almost lose control of my shadow domain. It kept pushing against the wall of shadows until it turned into dense black ice that encased the entire cave beside the portion I walled off. I thought that a guided missile could cause less damage than what I just accomplished.

I spent 30 minutes using a shadow-like pick just mining through the dense and abundant Ice. It was actually quite easy to mine using my shadow-pick, however, the area of effect was so damn large that it encased a huge area outside the cave entrance. Oops, I'm an idiot. Oh well, hopefully, it melts. I turned away from the forest of Ice debris from the… bomb I created. As soon as I went out from the cover of the treetops a pain shook my being, not horrible but enough to be an annoyance, like a bad headache.

…
I glided across the ground incredibly fast, trees seem to be no barrier in my way. I saw bushes, trees, ponds, vines, and rocks speed past my vision as I arrived at my first target. A black colored bear was eating the flesh of what looked like a gazelle. There was no sound made from my approach from behind, I have no scent, make no sound, and mostly not visible as anything other than a translucent small shadow. I arrived directly behind by the bear that was gorging the dead animal, and I transformed into my void walker form. I was about twice as tall as the bear when it was on all fours. I turned my hands in two scythes and prepared to kill… Thwack… Thump. The bear never knew I was even here, its head fell to the ground as my scythe hands dripped with blood. Then it happened.

Blood, life, mana… all of it… I need ALL OF IT. I craved for blood, I CRAVE LIFEFORCE! My mind was no longer mine to use, it was as if I was a true demon, thirsting for the life of my enemies in the truest sense. I knew I had to stop… no, I must stop before I can no longer control myself. I forced absolute will upon my self. My body stopped draining the lifeforce and then collapsed back into a pool of shadows.

Thank god… wooo! Well, let's see what's so good about this lifeforce that made me go insane.
The headless bear was a completely dried corpse, it looked as if a thousand years passed. Even the corpse of the dead gazelle and the head was also completely sucked dry of blood and lifeforce. I looked into my soul and I could see… well since, two differentiating pools. One of a liquid that reminded me of water tens of different dyes, however instead of feeling off by it, it was as if it was the most comfortable energy ever. Then I could see the other pool, it was like silvery-green mercury. It was hard to separate but not impossible and it felt slippery and slick. I could feel that if I was to use it, it could act as powerful energy as strong as mana. However, I could not draw it outside of myself only combine it with my shadow body. When I combined it internally It seemed to feed the shadow making it darker and stronger. Or I could will it to combine with soul-energy and create a link to all living things near me… scary. I pulled the life force into me from a couple of hundred feet or 60 meters around me. Then death arrived… every single living thing began to be sucked dry of life, all flowing into me. It felt so powerful and calming that I almost gasped for breath, I could get addicted to this… I understand now why my instincts screamed to consume the lifeforce. All the plants, the trees, and the grass withered into husks. The wind blew gently by and turned the landscape into a world of ash. I looked at the destruction caused thinking I should not do this too much, the beauty of this world will be roomed and I will be termed as a true demon and probably hunted down. I remembered the ancient crusades against the few demons back in the past of the other world long ago. That time of religious wars made the deathscape really cramped, almost as much as the black plague.
…
I looked into the distance past the ashes of the land around me and I could sense strong life force in distant places. Time to hunt again, I need to see if I can level up.

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
