Chapter 21 Road Trip

We exit the main entrance, my truck is still there, pretty banged up looking closely at it. Still drive able tho. Gonna need some new wheels soon, transporting larger groups in the truck is ok for the short term. The Sheriff and Deputy Patterson hop into the bed of the truck while Cindy and Julie get in the passenger side.

Two Guard and a Deputy stand guard at the entrance, the Deputy looks extremely nervous his eyes darting place to place as if seeing ghosts. Before I get into the Truck,”Hey Deputy, those guards will keep you safe, do not worry, those creatures will not come close.” I say to him reassuringly.

“I hear you but still does not change the fact they are out there sir!” he says with a slight fear in his voice. Well that is expected, now they need to face their fear and over come it, he will be fine after a few hours of peace and quiet out here. I get in the truck, turn the ignition and pull away, going back the way we originally came as the roads are still packed with cars in every direction, leading to the school.

Back on the main road, I pick up speed, the Sheriff and deputy hunker down in the bed. As we turn a corner I spot a Worg in the road ahead of us and stop the truck, and yell thru the back window which is open, “Hey Sheriff kill that will you?”

The Sheriff stands up in the bed of the Truck as does Patterson. The Sheriff has the 50 cal, places it on the roof of the truck and takes aim, the Worg in the meantime is now rushing towards us. Both Paterson and the Sheriff open fire, Cindy and Julie cover their ears, the 50 cal is loud.

Several shots ring out and it is torn to shreds and drops. Both sit back down in the bed, and I give the gas pedal a go.

"Hey I just leveled” The Sheriff says thru the window.

“Yeah I expected as much, play with your status and read thru the help files to get to know your profession Sheriff” I instruct him

“Will do Scott” The sheriff says and then engrosses himself with his status.

The rest of the trip was uneventful as we arrive at the grocery store, a statewide chain store. I pull up to the entrance and we all get out.

“It is too quiet Scott” Julie remarks.

“Yeah I don't hear anything”, Cindy agrees looking around nervously.

“What do you think Scott, we go in?” he asks

“Let me check it out first, I wanted to test something anyways, but before we do I forgot to do something,” I say when it dawned on me I never added the Sheriff and Patterson to the party. “Add Richard Hanson to party” I say.

“Umm what is this Scott?” The sheriff asks

“It is a party invite, it has a few perks like sharing of Xp and titles and that sort of thing, go ahead and accept it” I tell him

“Patterson what is your fist name?” I aks when I realize I do not even know that.

“Oh it is Norman sir!”, he replies with a smile

“Ahh thank you Patterson, Add Norman Patterson to the Party”, I then say.

With that done I pull out my Energy Gun, then I quickly calculate, at 13700 mana I can go invisible for 22 min max I think to myself.

“Ok wait here I am going to go check out the store, I will be right back.” I say to the group, they all nod.

“Activate invisibility” I say in front of the group and quickly leave to enter he store.

“What the hell?” the sheriff exclaims in astonishment, then he looks at Cindy and Julie,”When could he do that”..

They both just shrug and smile.

I enter the store quietly and survey the area, I have my goggles on with true sigh active, not going to be caught by surprise again by those bastards

I see dried blood trails leading to the back and follow them. They lead to the fresh meat market area. I get to the large double door that leads inside the employee section and slowly push the door open and look inside. It is a mess in here, human bones and remains everywhere among them are a few animal bones.

I see several Worgs inside sleeping, curled up against one another, four in total, one extremely large. He has White Fur, albino, while the three sleeping with him look to be his mates. I inspect closer.

Ah so here we have a boss. I need to take him out in one shot to get the bonus XP, plus kill the other 3 to get the other bonus all at the same time. I can use a grenade but....aww fuck it, whatever is in there is spoiled already.

I begin to call forth a grenade, but stop myself, hmmm I should check the freezer first, before doing anything rash.

I slowly enter the work area, putting the grenade away for now, and as quietly as possible move towards the freezer section, and sure enough the doors are still closed. The Worgs are sleeping about 15 meters away from the freezers. With that in mind, I slowly creep back out, hoping not to wake them.

The Alpha Worg, sniffs the air and his eyes open. Aww Crap I forgot smell I sigh guess I was getting too greedy with the XP thing, I lift the Energy Gun and point it at the Alpha Worgs head and fire off 2 shots.

Both shots hit on target, however they only singe the Alpha Worg. “WHAT THE FUCK!” I cry out, of course the 3 sleeping Worgs wake up. All four glare at me, since I did an offensive action my invisibility broke.

The alpha quickly leaps at me with claws out stretched, its maw gaping to grab me, I dodge by rolling on the ground evading its grasp, quickly take aim for the nearest female Worg and fire off 2 more shots, both hitting true. She falls dead Well at least it works on the them..

The Alpha Worg looks at its downed mate, walks over and sniffs it, then looks at me with glaring, hateful eyes.

In the meantime I do not hesitate and shoot 4 more times killing the other 2 as well, who were slowly trying to encircle me.

The Alpha Worg seeing his other two mates fall to the ground lifeless, then lets out a roar, a loud loud roar, the shock wave hits me, and my body stiffens slightly, but then I free up almost immediately.

Woah that would have been bad, I think to myself.

It slowly circles around me keeping me in its eyes at all times, that hateful glare penetrating me.

Oh boy I really pissed it off this time. And this gun is useless against it. So I holster the gun, and think Equip Vibroblade.

We both circle one another, I am kicking bones out of the way, the Vibroblade is on, I am not sure if this will effect it either but I have no choice now, not going to call for the Rail Rifle, it might collapse the whole place with me in it.

The Worg makes the first move and leaps at me again ,this time a paw swipes at me, I jump to my right avoiding the swipe, and swing the Vibroblade and connect with the paw, but I am only able to cause a small wound on it. Man this thing is tough

Now the Alpha Charges me, its speed increases tenfold, I can barely keep up and try to dodge it, but it catches me with both claws clamping down. The Uniform tears and my flesh is shredded on the right leg. Burning pain shoots thru my leg and I cry out.

I swing with the Vibroblade at the Worg catching it in the front shoulder area, driving point first, the Worg yelps and releases me, blood begins to flow from its wound. It is now limping, as am I. Not so tough are you now buddy.

The circle begins again, I know I have the initiative now, after having wounded it and make the decision to attack. I ignore the pain and rush forward, Vibroblade extended forward, the Worg tries to dodge and swipes at me with one of its paw again. We are both moving at high speed, a blur to the normal eye. We both connect, my Vibroblade driving deep into its left flank, while its claw rakes my left side, leaving deep gashes, we both cry out in pain.

I continue to push the vibroblade deep into the beast chewing up sinew and bone going deeper meeting strong resistance, like trying to push a knife into solid ice. It will give but it takes a lot of effort. I hear snapping sounds coming from the beast, it is thrashing and clawing at me scoring hit after hit on me.

I pull back in severe pain. Both hind legs of the Worg are now immobilized, the vibroblade did its job. It had cut thru all the way, but the damage to me was great as well. Clawing at the ground, the Alpha Worg growls and hisses, snapping wildly, beyond enraged or having any senses left. It is bleeding heavily. I decide to go for the mercy kill, as it snaps again towards me, I leap forward and push the vibroblade straight into its open maw. The Vibroblade sinks deep with no resistance. The eyes of the Worg grow wide in surprise as the vibroblade cuts deep into its throat. I hit something and the beast dies suddenly. I pull the blade back out, I am covered in blood bleeding heavily, yet gain, my leg and side are killing me.

I slowly walk out limping heavily hold my left side tenderly, Fuck! I should have gone with the god damned grenade

I am pissed at myself! Stupid stupid mistake.
