Femi's room some weeks later. His roommate Tony is reading a newspaper. Enter Femi, throws down his books and sits on his bed pensively.

TONY: What's wrong, Femi? What’s the problem?

FEMI: My problem is so big I’m sometimes lost in its fold.

TONY: What exactly is your problem?

FEMI: It's Liz.

TONY: Your fiancée?

FEMI: Yes.

TONY: Have you two quarreled?

FEMI: If it were only a quarrel, how happy would I be! Alas, it is worse.

TONY: Worse? What do you mean? Has she broken your engagement?

FEMI: Not yet.

TONY: What do you mean?

FEMI: You see, I've just discovered that Liz is having an affair with Professor Fayemi our head of department

TONY: No! It can’t be true.

FEMI: That was what I told myself when I first heard the rumour, but now I'm not so sure.

TONY: Why don't you ask her?

FEMI: That's the problem. She avoids me, she does not answer when I call or call back.

Many times I’ve gone to her room only to learn that she had gone out with the Prof.

TONY: How shocking! How could she do that?

FEMI; I don’t know. But despite her infidelity, I still love her very much.

TONY: Femi, I know how much you love Liz, but if you find her unfaithful, drop her now. She is not the only beautiful girl around, is she? If she still loves you, she should stop fooling around with that old goat. But if she prefers to mess around, it's high time you broke off your engagement with her. You’re in your final year. You can't afford unnecessary emotional disturbance now. But first try and have a serious talk with her.

FEMI: Thank you, Tony.

(Exit Femi. Tony goes back to his paper.)
