《New chance in fantasy》chapter 3: the Havenbag

His heart was hurting him.
The first thing he had done in this world was to put to death such a being, the incarnation of fantasy since he discovered it years ago, he had destroyed it.
Remembering Dragnïr words, he stood up. The old dragon was waiting for death all along. And even if this was tragic for the young man, at least Dragnïr seemed to be in peace.
Holding the golden orb in his hand, he turned his attention to the crystal.
"So....just touching the crystal with this and..."
As he touched the crystal, a golden aura engulfed him for a second.
In the blink of an eye, the crystal had disappeared, as was Dragnïr and the place he was before, he had been transported elsewhere.
"This is beginning to be kind of a habit of mine..."
Talking to himself he looked around.
"Where am i....?"
He was in a small room, walls made of big dark stones and nothing else made Maximilian have a very "dungeon-like" feeling.
He looked around himself, four big wooden doors were placed on the four cardinal points, identical in the appearance, only some different runes engrave in every of the four doors allow to distinguish one from another. The sources of light were a dozen Little crystal floating right under the ceiling.
As Maximilian looked around, his attention was taken by a pedestal right in the middle of the room.
Very simple in the conception, made in white stone. On it rested a purse.
Scratching his head, Max took a moment to examine the purse without touching it. It seemed to be made of red scales, not too small or too big, maybe fifty centimetres deep, just the right size to attach to your belt and not be bothered by it as you walk. It was closed by what seems to be a little golden chain.....but as it lay there on the pedestal, it was quite obvious that.....it was empty.
Taking a step closer, Max noticed some runes engrave in the pedestal. The same kind as the ones on the four doors. He tried to read it, but wasn't able to, seeing the runes as nothing more than.....well, runes.
"Well, that's not going to be usef....what the hell?"

As he pondered the next step to take, a little sound resonate in his head for a second. It was the same little crystal bell sound he had heard when he first touched the crystal in the throne room.
As if pushed by a presentiment, Max made appear before him his info window. Just like before with Dragnïr, his different stats and level were showing in front of his eyes.
This time, though, he took a little more time to examined it.
Looking through, it seemed that his abnormal level had an effect on his stats as well. Max arched an eyebrow has he read it.
"So I am level 399, that I knew......all of my stats are at the value of 99 , the exception being my life and mana that are at a value of....... 999999.....ok, I'm beginning to understand why Dragnïr react like that... hm? What's this?"
Just under his level number, another number was written, skills points: 3990.
"Skills points, really? But how am I suppose to....hm?"
Still discovering, his attention was, this time, attracted by a little word shining just next to the window's name "info", that one read "skills". By a thought, the new window open, showing......well not a lot actually, only one skill was displayed: "Ancient runes understanding: level 0/10" written in grey.
"Okay, that's interesting...so if I follow a game logic then all I have to do is..."
Concentrating on the skill, he wished for a point to be added, and just like that, the skill took a red colour as the number change from 0/10 to 1/10.
Looking at the runes on the pedestal, Maximilian smiled a bit when he realised that he was now able to comprehend just a bit of what was written on it.
"esgkh.....Dragnïr....llhezf....magic....felfhf....okay it is obvious that adding point make an instant change in what I am able to do, if one point makes me understand just a tiny bit, then...."
thinking about it for a bit, he decided to give it a try and started adding point until the skill was 10/10. As he added the last point, the skill changed colour, passing from red to gold. Concentrating on the skill, something wrote itself under it.

"You mastered the understanding of ancient runes skill. You are now able to read, write and speak the language of the ancients, mastering this capacity open the gate of a new magic for you."
And as Maximilian finished reading, a new skill appeared: Rune magic.
"That's so cool...but I will look more into this later, for now, let's read runes..."
Enthused by this new discovery, Max was having a lot of fun. Looking at the runes, he was thrilled at the fact that it now appeared to him as a perfectly understandable text.
"So let's see.....Here you stand, adventurer, in the treasure's chamber of Dragnïr.
On this pedestal rest my most precious possession: The Havenbag.
This bag is unique, enchanted by a magic far older than me, it cannot be destroyed by simple means such as weapon or magic.
His power is quite simple, you will be able to transport all you want with it, on two conditions.
No living thing can enter it. A corpse can, a corpse of plant or animal, it doesn't matter ,as long as it is not a living being, it can be placed in it.
And the second condition is the size, you must be able to put the thing you wish to take with you in the bag so the magic can operate.
Other than that, it doesn't have limitations, no matter how big the treasure, how many weapon or protection, put it in the bag, and you won't feel the burden of their weights, as what is inside won't feel the burden of the time. You can transport ingredients, they will never rot.
Around you are four doors. Behind them, my other treasures, some of the ones I have discovered in my very long life, they are yours to take.
This Artefact is enchanted, when you will be ready to go, just put your hand on it and say your name in ancient language, so the havenbag will be bound to you. This will mean that only you will be able to take what's inside the bag. If someone else tries, they will only find it empty. Only those you deemed worthy will be able to take something inside, but only what you want them to take, nothing more...
The more he was reading, the bigger the smile on his face got.
"My god that's so cool. This, this is the ultimate travel companion...so I just have to put my hands on it...."
Talking to himself, he acted at the same time, putting his hands as indicated. Then, concentrating for an instant, he said his name.
"Maximilian Baltazard Van Nilmerus."
As his name echoed in the small room, the bag shined for an instant, then nothing. He couldn't tell how, but Maximilian knew he made it, the Havenbag was his.
He took it, feeling the scales material under his fingers. He opened it, looking inside but all he could see was...nothing. not as if empty, but even with the light around him, the bag seemed to have no bottom.
Maximilian put his hand inside, trying to reach the end of it, but even as he reached to his shoulder, he couldn't feel anything.
"well, that is interesting, to say the least, let's keep it and pursue the exploration. So what about those doors? "
Choosing a door randomly he came in front of the North one.
He tried to open it by pushing, as there was no handle to pull, but the door wouldn't move even with Maximilian putting all his strength in it. But it wasn't all for nothing as he gained a new skill, "colossus strength" was now visible on his skills list.
He arched his eyebrow, then maxed the skill, telling himself that the door maybe needed the strength of a dragon to be open.
With his new skill, he felt a new power inside of him, as if he could do anything. He smiled at the door.
"Now my dear, you are going to open, willingly or not. "
.
.
.
A few minutes later, Maximilian was cursing the unmoving object.
"you freaking piece of Pinocchio's butt, impossible to move... Hm? Where those runes there earlier? So what does it say....knowledge and experience ... "
As the words in ancient language echoed in the room, the runes on the door shined a few seconds before it simply opened without a sound in front of a dumbfounded Maximilian.
"A freaking password, really? Ho well, at least I discovered a new skill...well, let's continue. "
And with those words, he passed the door who closed behind him.
