《Electrosilver》chapter 14

As there was nothing that Jade could do about it she merely put it out of her mind and looked down towards Dusk while smiling. The moment she laid her eyes on him she could not help but smile even further. This cute son of hers was just the medicine that she needed. Over time she had grown to love him so much that whenever she looked at him all of her worries disappeared. While thinking this she could not help but hug Dusk affectionately.
For all the other three queens who were watching this, this was really a test of their perseverance. After all, Jade had gained sole monopoly of the really cute boy and interesting specimen. Granted he was her son, but still…
Through all of this, Dusk could tell that while Stream did not care much about other humans apart from him, she had come to gain a really deep seated affection for Jade. After all, Jade treated both of them as her children and thus Stream had come to view her as her mother too.
Among all the three people left in the room, there was only one that Dusk had not had a personal interaction with and that was the mature childlike queen, Modred Fribi who, just as Dusk had expected, opened her mouth to speak.
“Uum, Queen Jade, if you don’t mind me asking, may I please hold him? Uum, your son?” She asked in a rather embarrassed tone that, contrary to her usual demeanor, really fit her perfectly.
“Sure, why not?” Jade said with a smile on her face as she handed Dusk over.
As Dusk did not have any reason to refute, he naturally did not object being carried by the short lady that was still seated. Once she got a hold of Dusk, Modred put him in on her lap and started to gently run her fingers through his hair. The same way a loving mother would do to her child. As she did so she kept muttering to herself “I should really get myself a child. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to get one this cute.”
Those words surprised Dusk a bit. After all, in as much as this lady looked really young, she was without a doubt older than his mom. For her to not have a single child by that age was something really queer.
“Is this really what happens in a society that has very few males?” Dusk thought to himself.
While Dusk had already come to learn that this society was purely matriarchal, this fact really surprised him mostly because the culture in this world when it came to male female relations was just so different from how it was on earth.
In this world, not every woman was obliged to get a child. There were just too few males after all. But when someone, say a queen for example, wanted to get a child, she would look for the strongest and most handsome male that she could find and mate with him.

If she later came to develop feelings for the man then they would inadvertently stay together as a couple forcing the two to become faithful to only each other. However, as in most cases, once the queen got pregnant, the man would be on his way. It is for this reason that Dusk had never met his dad.
This did not bother him much though as he really had no need for a father. All that his father would have done, his mom did even better. He did, however, know for a fact that his father was a handsome man at the peak of the middle S rank. Finding such an esteemed expert that was not a queen was as rare as finding qilin horns and phoenix feathers.
Just as Dusk was thinking this, he heard a voice that he recognized that instantly made him shiver. This was the voice of Francisca, the really queer lady that Dusk had come to develop a fear of. At this moment he could feel that she was looking at him with her characteristic longing gaze. In as much as Dusk knew that this lady would do nothing to hurt him, he still felt rather uncomfortable under her gaze that was vastly different from the others’. Dusk felt as though he were prey being looked down on by a predator.
“Queen Jade, may I please hold him?” Francisca asked.
Almost as though his mother had detected his state of mind, she immediately answered back. “I’m sorry Queen Francisca but I just can’t allow that.” all while maintaining the smile on her face.
“Aaw, and why is that?” Francisca asked with an expression on her face that fully conveyed that he was heartbroken.
“I’m sorry but my son seems to be really afraid of you.” Jade answered with a forced smile on her face.
Once Francisca heard that, contrary to expectation, her face blossomed into a really beautiful smile and she whispered to herself in a voice that only Dusk with his super hearing could hear. “Aaw, so he’s afraid of me. How cute! Makes me want him even more. Having prey that is hard to get makes it all the more thrilling! Well in as much as it makes me sad, guess I’ll just have to back down this time. Wait for me my pretty specimen” She said as a dangerous gleam flashed through her eyes.
Once Dusk heard that statement, he could not help but shudder. This lady was really scary.
As soon as she finished talking to herself, Francisca stood up and bid farewell to the rest of the people in the room before leaving. Following behind her was Modred who reluctantly handed back Dusk before she too stood up and left.
At this time the only two adults left in the room were Barbra and Jade who were seated right next to each other.

“Haha, that son of yours sure is a lady killer isn’t he? Making even old ladies like us lose their heads. Haha, I can only imagine what he will do to children his age.” Barbra said as she stifled out her laugh. It was true though, for her, a veteran of combat, a person who had been through many life and death battles to be infatuated by a child, one could only imagine how young and immature children would react.
“Haha, I guess you’re right, he is quite cute.” Jade could only let out a dry laugh. Even she herself knew, for her to describe him as ‘a bit cute’ was a huge understatement.
“Okay well, it was really nice meeting you here Jade, hope you get to your kingdom safely.” Barbra said as she stood up and begun to walk away.
“Thanks, have a safe trip too.” Jade managed to respond just before Barbra left completely, leaving behind only Dusk, Jade and Stream in the room. As Stream was sleeping, Dusk and Jade were the only conscious people left in the room.
“Dusk, baby, you really made mama proud, you know that? Mommy is really happy to have you as a son.” Jade said as she hugged Dusk close to her. No matter how many times Dusk heard these words, he still felt warm every time his mother said them.
“Just one thing baby, how did you do that to Queen Francisca. Can you tell mommy please?” Jade asked in a loving voice that did nothing to conceal her affection coupled with a feeling of curiosity.
“Uum, mom, Dusk just applied a little pressure on her pressure point and made her faint.” Dusk answered knowing full well that his mother would most likely not understand.
“Pressure point? What’s that? I’ve never heard of it. You know what baby, never mind. Just keep doing what you’re doing and mama will do her best to support you as you learn new things.” Said Jade. Dusk could feel that she was really sincere in her words and could not help but feel more thankful as he would not have asked for a better and more understanding mother than her.
“Also baby, in as much I would like us to stay here a bit longer, I am afraid that we cant. Your sisters are back from school and are waiting for us at home.” Jade said while a little excited. Dusk could tell that she really loved all her children dearly.
Dusk was no different though. As it had been more than a year since he last saw his sisters, how could he not be excited to see them? They were, after all, really good sisters that anyone would be lucky to have.
And so, as soon as his mother finished speaking, she stood up and left, heading directly for the place where her wyvern was kept while carrying Dusk carefully in her arms.
At the place where the mounts were kept there was only one person. This person was a girl with white skin that was filled with freckles. In her hand was a bucket of meat and on her body was a brown overall. She carried the aura of someone that had lived rural all her life.
As soon as she saw his mom, she offered a polite bow. “ Greetings Queen, would you like to depart?” she asked. Dusk could tell that this young lady was not even twenty, as she looked really young.
“Yes we would, please prepare the wyvern for us.” Jade said in a queenly manner. It was amazing how fast her temperament would change when she was not doting on Dusk. As a matter of fact, the change was so precise that one could call it an inborn skill.
“Yes Queen.” Said the young lady as she walked into the shed. When she came back out, she had the wyvern in tow. Once she delivered the wyvern she bowed and left. Not before directing a few hidden glances at Dusk, though.
Once the wyvern was in sight, Jade did not waste any time as she immediately climbed atop its back and put Dusk on her lap while hugging him. Her attitude had reverted back into that of a doting mother.
Similar to how they had come, the wyvern began walking and soon after, took flight. As they were leaving, Dusk did not fail to notice that they were the first to depart.
Once they took flight, Dusk was overwhelmed once more by how beautiful this island was. It was indeed fit for the leader of a whole continent.
It was only upon seeing such beauty of nature that Dusk noticed that in as much as he had seen it being performed in his mother’s memories, he had never seen magic in real life.
Feeling overwhelmed by curiosity, he could not stop himself from turning towards his mother and pleading with her. “Mom, could you please show Dusk some magic?” Dusk was not really bothered by asking her, as he already knew that his mom knew that he could ‘see’.

8 196Nights of Sambria: And the Wish of Light
“I discovered a secret. One I desperately wish could have stayed hidden. It was locked away, concealed in a fantastical world on the doorstep of 7 billion people who stayed utterly oblivious to it. If they will be spared the terror that is coming, I can’t begin to imagine. Know that a forgotten heritage of a dwindling people whispered, unknowingly sending a call to the ancient mysteries of the world. Something listened. And now events are set in motion that could force the earth on a course of terrible change. I am being hunted and have run out of time. There were no stories about it. No legends. Not even scribbles. Yet, the threat of it is real and that’s why I’m writing this warning with shaking hands. So pay attention those who read this, be careful of what lies waiting cloaked in the darkness. That which made their home the lost places of this world.” She folded the letter with a shuddering breath and stared back in the direction from where the noise reverberated through the halls. It was of stone doors shattering one by one. The chances of getting out safely were all but gone. The letter in her hand was all warning they would have. It dropped into one of the Wells and all that could be done now was hope it was found in time, if at all. -- This was my very first large story. ;) I started writing it years ago. Was fun, was difficult, but in the end, it is a story I hope that will inspire. The prologue is in first person perspective and the rest of the story in 3d. Just a little heads-up :P It is a fantasy epic with a contemporary twist for the start. The first arc of the novel is set inside our modern world, but as the mysterious events around Calin intensifies, the hidden secrets in the world start to become more fantastical. The story follows Calin, a young orphan in search of answers. But, the answers he seeks will change his life and that of his friends forever, for the secrets that caused his situation have far greater ramifications than the small village of Lamb's Crest could have known. Remember to leave ratings and reviews. I'm quite interested in hearing your thoughts on the story. ;) Enjoy reading, Omri Hope
