《Little Rebel》Chapter 30

I woke up, but it wasn't the next morning. I could just tell.
Everyone was still asleep, it was dark out.
Groaning, I carefully climbed out of Cameron's arms and left the room, because I knew I won't be able to go back to sleep.
Walking around the house, I went in my room and grabbed my guitar.
I haven't played it in a while and I really need to practice.
I went out back and sat by the pool, pulling up music on my phone.
Tuning it, I started playing Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer.
"Jordyn?"
I jumped and turned to see Nash behind me.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I should be asking you the same thing." He said, coming over and sitting next to me.
"Couldn't sleep." I shrugged.
"Same." He nodded.
I plucked quietly at the strings of my guitar as we sat in silence.
"Wanna go for a walk?" Nash asked randomly.
Looking at him weirdly, I shrugged. "Why not."
We went through the house quietly. I set my guitar on the kitchen counter and pulled on some black Uggs.
They didn't go with my pajama shorts, but who cares.
It was 2:00 in the morning. No one was going to see.
The two of us walked down the street, not saying anything.
"So you and Cam." Nash finally said, smirking at me.
"Yup. Sorry I broke up Cash or whatever." I shrugged.
He burst out laughing. "It's totally ok."
"Good." I smiled.
"It's weird." Nash said.
"What is?" I asked.
"Cam has never liked a girl, as much as he likes you, in barely any time. I mean, you haven't lived here for a while and he's already like in love with you." He told me.
"I wouldn't say love." I laughed nervously.

"I would." He said, looking me in the eye.
I bit my lip and looked at the ground.
"Can we talk about something else?" I asked quietly.
"Why? I'm not trying to be rude or mean or anything, but you guys are in a relationship, why don't you wanna talk about it?" He said, looking at me.
I shrugged nervously. "I don't know. I've never been good with talking about feelings or anything. For as long as I can remember I would just bottle everything up and never tell anyone anything. Plus, I'm new at this whole thing. I'm almost 18 years old and this is my first relationship."
"First? You mean you didn't even have one of those silly 7th grade 'relationships' that everyone had?" He looked surprise, making quotes with his fingers.
I nodded. "I was a...different kid back then."
"Different, how?" Nash asked.
"Weird." I said.
By now we had sat on the curb, and were just talking.
"I'm sure you weren't that weird." He laughed lightly.
"No, I was. I was literally that weird girl that every school had." I sighed, resting my elbows on my knees and putting me head in my hands.
"Yeah right." He rolled his eyes.
"Fine, don't believe the truth." I said.
Nash stared at me.
"Actually, ask Kian tomorrow, he gave me shit every day for making him that weird girl's brother." I told him.
"You mean today. It's almost 3:00 in the morning." He said.
"Whatever." I rolled my eyes jokingly.
"I'm gonna stalk your facebook now." Nash said, after a while.
"Oh god, please don't." I laughed, but actually really didn't want him to.
"Nope, it's official. I'm doing it." He said, putting his arms behind him and leaning back on them.
"Ughhh." I groaned, laying down.

He laughed at me, then laid down also.
After that, we didn't say anything, just laid on the ground, staring up at the dark sky.
"I did this a lot when I was younger." I finally said.
"Did what?" He asked.
"Just came outside in the middle of the night and looked at the stars. I mean, I had no friends at that time so it was really lonely. But I don't know It helped me." I told him.
"Help you how?" Nash asked.
"Whenever I was stressed or having a bad day, or just sat and thought about how sad my life was, it made me feel better. Laying on the ground, in the middle of the night with just the stars. No noise, no teasing, laughing. No nothing. Just me and the stars." I confessed.
"Did you ever stop?" He asked, sitting up and looking at me.
"Not fully. I wouldn't do it for weeks, months even after things got better because of Perrie. But I would always come back." I said, not looking at Nash, but at the stars.
"Wow." Nash said quietly.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"We should probably get back." He said, standing up and wiping his pants.
"Ok." I said.
Nash held out his hand and I grabbed it, him pulling me up.
"It's Friday." I said as we were walking back.
"Yeah, so?" He asked.
"Perrie goes home today." I sighed.
"Oh yeah, she does." Nash nodded, rubbing the back of his neck.
I took a deep breath and watched the ground as I walked.
"How come you and Cameron are staying with us?" I asked.
"We bought an apartment together, but they had to fumigate the entire building, so we called your brother and he agreed to let us stay until we can go back home." He explained.
"When will that be?" I looked up at him.
"I'm not sure. Our landlord said he will call us when we can, but we haven't heard anything since he kicked us and everyone in the building out." Nash shrugged.
"That kinda sucks." I laughed quietly.
"Yeah, it really does." He laughed also.
We got back to the house and entered quietly.
"Tired yet?" Nash asked me as I took off my boots.
"Kinda." I said, yawning.
"Same." He nodded.
"Then lets get some sleep." I said, in a duh voice.
"That would probably be the best option, huh." He said.
"Yup." I said.
This time, I went up to my room, climbing in my bed as Nash went back to the living room with everyone else.
I plugged my headphones in and put them on, putting a playlist on shuffle.
See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth came on and I curled into a ball under my blankets.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I am so sorry that I haven't updated in almost a month.
But with testing and graduation was yesterday and everything that's been going on, I've been super busy.
There's been a bunch of drama and stuff between some of my best friends, so that has been giving me anxiety.
And I also didn't know what I was gonna do with this chapter, but today I ditched school because I can, and started writing, and this came out of it.
I hope you guys like it and it doesn't suck.
Btw, I get out of school Thursday, for those of you who are already out of school and curious as to why I ditched today and am not already out also.

The Laptop Hero (Portal/Isekai LitRPG)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - April 2022 Silas got summoned to another world—by a group of kids attending magic school who seemed rather unhappy with the results of their ritual. After a brief glimpse of his summoners Silas woke in the town dump. Unable to speak the local language, a misunderstanding escalated and before long Silas wound up in a jail cell, the locals having confiscated all his worldly possessions aside from his laptop, which had formed some strange bond with him. Now he can summon his laptop at will, and he can view his Status, level up, and gain powerful skills and magic as if he were some character in a video game, which is great and everything, but all Silas really wants to do is sit in a dark room and play games on his laptop. Only, life isn't a game, and Silas needs to get his act together because everyone else is playing for keeps. Or does he? Maybe for Silas life is just one big game now, with everyone else stuck playing by his rules. Assorted Disclaimers, in no particular order: I am only posting this on RoyalRoad.com, so if you find my story elsewhere it was not posted by me. Please do let me know! While I do consider this a progression fantasy, and have tagged it as such, Silas's Status improvements will not necessarily proceed in a linear fashion. His RPG stats will have ups and downs, exploits and nerfs, periods of growth and stagnation. Such is the life of a gamer, to be held under the thumb of the all powerful devs, or in this case a certain goddess devoted to the idea of Balance. SIlas himself should learn and grow, improving and progressing in areas where he struggles, or rather, to show such is my goal. The story is told from multiple points of view. While other PoVs will come and go, Silas shall remain the only lead character. The world Silas finds himself on is not a nice place. Expect him to encounter gore and traumatizing content and bad people who do bad things for selfish (or possibly noble) reasons from time to time. Some characters will use profanity, however due to cultural differences the curse words used will differ from those used in our corner of reality, so I'm not including the profanity content warning. Silas himself isn't one for foul language. No explicit sexual content here. This novel is intended for mature readers, however, and will include mature topics, including, but not limited to, sex, violence, death, and taxes. No harem. Might be an eventual romantic interest, possibly even some competitive jealousy, yet as his story begins Silas is too overwhelmed with other concerns to consider long term plans. Musophobics might want to steer clear of this story. Same goes for turophobics. You have been warned. Keep in mind, however, if my other disclaimers didn't make this clear, I only have the faintest of outlines at the moment. This story will take me where it will. My goal with this story is to write it to the end, something of a long-term writing exercise, with the hope others might take an interest in my work and encourage me to keep at it. I've started a number of works before, even finished a few, but this is the first time I've shared any work in a public forum. My temporary cover was made by me, in GIMP using public domain images. If you can do better I'll happily accept your submission and give credit for your work here!
