《The Wonders of Fall; A Modern Zelink AU Story》The Plan (1)

Today, was an ordinary day for Link Forrester. Very typical.

The day started at 6:30 in the morning when Link woke up, brushed his teeth, showered, got dressed, and shook his sister awake.

His sister's name was Aryll and she was twelve years old. Link loved her, but he sometimes she really got on his nerves.

He couldn't blame her though, the long hours they spent together (mostly in the car) were great opportunities for them to bond. And he was her only family left.

Link had become Aryll's legal guardian at the age of 18, after his Grandmother (they're last relative alive) had passed away.

The tragedy had happened one year ago, and Link tried not to remind himself of the sadness as much as possible. Luckily, he had Aryll to help him with that.

Aryll was extremely cheerful no matter the circumstance, like Link she had bright, ocean blue eyes and blonde hair. The two looked very alike considering how far apart they were in age.

After Aryll was awake Link had to wait a half hour for her to get ready and then the two of them had breakfast together.

"Got anything planned today Link?" Aryll asked across the table happily.

"Not anything besides work and school," Link replied.

"...you know...you really should try something else besides only working and schooling."

"I don't really feel like it right now okay Aryll?"

"Okay okay I get it." She sighed, "sometimes you're boring to talk to Link."

Link grumbled. "Thanks for being honest."

After they had breakfast they both grabbed their backpacks and hopped into their car. Link pulled out of the garage and drove Aryll to school, which was about fifteen minutes from the house.

Beside the roads in which they drove on, trees could be seen on either side with pretty Autumn leaves, helplessly falling to the ground. If either of them had rolled their windows down they would have heard the Fall leaves tumbling about.

"I'll see you after school big brother!" Aryll yelled after they had arrived and she running from the car.

Link finally cracked his first smile that day. Back when his Grandmother used to drive him to school, he would have been too embarrassed to yell back to her. Aryll was a sweet sister.

The frown returned quickly as he drove away from the Juinior high. Life was taking place. Life wasn't something that you enjoyed. Life was meant to be endured. At least that's how Link saw it.

He arrived at the University and grudgingly parked the car. It was just another day leading seemingly useless stuff that somehow would get him a better job in the future.

But...he was doing it for Aryll. And for enduring the world. This is what the work demanded from people like Link in modern times such as this. Get an education, get a job.

Link sighed. The day was only getting started.

He only had enough time to visit a couple classes before he had to get back in his car and drive to his work at Lon-Lon Mart.

It wasn't that Link was tired of his job shelfing groceries, it was just that he did the same thing every time he worked. Every single day.

First the eggs and milk would come, Link would push big carts of eggs and milk over to the fridges sections and stock all the shelves with Malon his co-worker.

Next the meat would come. Link would have to deliver it to the Deli corner where Illia was in charge. Even though he didn't have to stock it, Illia would ask for help and Link would agree just to get out of pushing heavy carts for a couple moments.

Both Illia and Malon would talk to Link as they worked and Link had gotten to know them very well. He didn't exactly enjoy talking to either of them but he did it because he didn't have anything else to do.

Once both of those jobs were done, it was time for Link to temporarily clock out so he could drive back to his sister's school to pick her up. After all, the University was quite a ways from Aryll's school.

Aryll skipped up to his car that was in line with several others.

She got in the car. "How was school?" Link asked like he always would.

He knew that her answer in one way or another would mention her best friend Tetra. He had asked her so many times that he knew to expect it.

"Oh it was amazing! Tetra and I got to work together on our frog dissection in Science!" Aryll said, "I found it really fascinating! Why didn't you tell me that you got to dissect frogs when you were my age?"

"Well if you expected me to tell you something that specific then I would have had to tell you everything that I did in grade school." Link had told Aryll that statement many times before

And Aryll would respond with an expecting smile, "then go ahead and tell me."

Link smiled for the second time that day, "sorry. Maybe some other time."

Aryll groaned, "Link why do you say the same thing every time? There never will be another time."

"Well you also say the same thing every time," Link said.

"Because I want you to tell me everything you did. Honestly."

Link looked over at Aryll who wasn't wearing her usual smile. She was serious.

Link had always though of this as their joke. Had she actually been counting on a time that he would tell her?

"Well...I will. Just not right now. I have to go to work after I drop you off."

"Ugh," Aryll slouched back in the seat, "its the same thing every day. Can you take one day off of work?"

"No because I have to keep earning money so I can pay for the house, go to school, and pay for your school."

"Yeah yeah I know," Aryll said, "you've told me a hundred times."

They were both silent for the rest of the drive to their house.

Link dropped Aryll off at the house, turned around and drove back to work.

After stocking a bunch of cereal boxes with odd pictures of Tingle on them, and bagging a couple customer's bags Link clocked out again from work and drove home.

He had to get home by 5:30 because that was the time that Zelda's friend Tetra came over to play. Every single school day.

Her parents had never asked that he be home to supervise Tetra, but Link made sure he was home anyways. He didn't exactly trust Aryll as much when she was with any friends.

There was a knock on the door and as usual, Aryll ran to the door to invite her in. Then the two of them ran off to do "homework."

That's what they said they were doing. And honestly enough as Link checked on them a couple times during Tetra's stay they would be collaborating on their homework.

But of course they would always finish early and before the last hour before Tetra had to leave they would play around the house or talk about boys or anything along those lines.

Link was glad, at least, that his sister could find happiness in this world for now. He thought he had found it too when he was her age. But once he was made guardian and major responsibility kicked in, the happiness slipped away quickly.

He hoped that Aryll's happiness would stay as long as possible.

Aryll put down her pencil and stretched her fingers awkwardly, "finally! We're done!"

"I know! Finally!" Tetra agreed as she too put her pencil down on the math assignment, "every day the math seems to be getting harder."

"Yeah that's how I feel too," Aryll said looking around, "well, what do you want to do?"

"Hmm," Tetra thought, "I don't know. All I do know is that I want to set somebody up."

"Like at school?" Aryll asked.

"I guess," Tetra shrugged. "I've just never done it before and I think it could be fun."

"Yeah I've never done it either," Aryll said, "well who should we plan to set up?"

"Hmm," Tetra started thinking again. After a few moments her face lit up.

"I know! We should set up my sister!"

"But...isn't your sister in college?" Aryll asked. Aryll knew that Tetra's older sister's name was Zelda, but she didn't know anything about her.

"Yeah, but she doesn't date and I've wanted her to get a boyfriend for so long!" Tetra said getting excited.

"Well...okay! Who can we set her up with?"

"Hmm..."

The door opened and the two girls looked over.

It was Link.

"Hey guy's just checking on you," Link said giving them a little wave, "sorry if I interrupted something..." He shut the door and they heard him walk down the hall.

The two twelve year old girls looked at each other with sparkles in their eyes, "we could set Zelda up with Link!"

"That would be so cool!"

"We would be sort of related right?"

"They would be so cute together!"

"This is honestly just perfect!" Aryll exclaimed, "I've noticed what a depressed person Link is sometimes...this could totally turn his life around!"

"Then the more reason to do it!"

"Wait...Link might get mad at me..." Aryll realized.

"Why?" Tetra asked confused.

"Well...Link doesn't really like to date. I don't really know why. I think dates make him uncomfortable. If we surprise him with a date he might freak out."

"We'll work up to it," Tetra assured her, "like I said: my sister doesn't like to date either. But maybe if they meet each other they might change their minds?"

"Maybe," Aryll shrugged, "I guess it's the best that we can do at the moment. Can you get Zelda to come in with you tomorrow when she drops you off at my house?"

"Probably not but I can give it a try," Tetra said optimistically.

"Good, text or call me to let me know if she will so I can have Link answer the door."

"Okay I will!"

The two girls smiled. This was going to be fun.
