Chapter 2

Brooke's POV :

For the next couple weeks, Brandon has been leaving for work earlier and coming home later than he did before. It's starting to get me worried. What if he, like, is kidnapping people and killing them like in The Call.

Brandon being a murderer would just ruin my family's life. But I know that can't be why he's not coming home. It has to be for something else. Me being me, I called him out on it. I'm leaning against the wall when he flings his brief case onto the couch.

"It's 11:45. Where've ya been all this time?" I ask with an edge on my voice. Brandon walks over to me.

"I really don't feel comfortable without telling the girls at the same time. Could ya just wait until tomorrow morning?"

"Fine. I will. But I don't feel comfortable with you in my bed with me. You can sleep on the couch." I snap before turning on my heel and quietly stomping upstairs. That night my bed felt empty.

It's been feeling this way since I keep falling asleep in here without Brandon. I feel like he's keeping a secret from me. But you never know what's going on inside another person's mind

....

With Ella sitting at the table eating her breakfast and Ali on my hip, I stare at Brandon's face.

"We're all here. Are you ready to tell me?" I snap. He sighs and a look of guilt flashes through his face. It goes as quickly as it came.

"Yes. The reason I've been gone so long is because I'm planning us to go on a trip to Disney World. I'm having a convention down there for work and I thought we could have a nice vacation." He says. Ella shoots out of her chair.

"Disney?! When do we leave, when do we leave, when do we leave?" She speeds around the kitchen like a race car.

"In a couple days," Brandon responds.

"So you better get packing." He smirks at me. Ella loves packing so it'll be a hassle to get her to go to school. I roll my eyes at him before swinging Ella onto my other hip.

"Why don't we start packing when we come home from school?" I ask her.

"Then I can help you." She nods like crazy and wiggles out of my grasp.

"Lets go so I can come home and pack!" She says, standing by the door with her hands on her hips. I laugh and get her lunch before saying goodbye to Brandon, then pulling out of our driveway in my Honda Odyssey.

...

I load Ella's little suitcase that I ended up packing for her. She can't pack even though she loves doing it. There was a box of frozen Eggo waffles, my makeup bag, and some of Ali's clothes in her bag.

"You sure you can't come down today?" I ask Brandon. He's a lawyer—probably the best I know— and has a couple cases to do before he comes down.

"I only have four more cases then I'll be down, I promise." I scowl at the ground then sigh.

"Can you help me get the girls?" I ask him.

He nods and walks up the steps to our porch. I carry Ali to the car and Brandon carries Ella. They're both still sleeping since the sun hasn't risen yet. It takes maybe three or four hours to get to Orlando and I want as much peace and quiet as I can. Ella will be gabbing about how excited she is to see the princesses and Ali will be waking up around seven a.m. I start the engine and roll down my window.

"Drive safe." Says Brandon.

"I will." I assure him then peck him on the lips. I drive away with him standing at the driveway.
