《To Be A Dad (Irondad and Spiderson)》11: Like Mother, Like Son

Tony woke up to JARVIS telling him that Peter was out of bed. The kid found out how to bring the bars on his crib down and let himself out a week or two ago. Although Tony told him to wait for him or Rhodey to get him the baby still ended up seeking out. "Sir he's in the piano room," JARVIS spoke again when Tony walked out of his room.
"I left the door open last night?" Tony usually never went into the piano room, the memories of his mother are sometimes too painful to remember but other nights it's comforting. Now that he has Peter he knows why his mother chose certain decisions for him. After all, he was Maria's son, he loved her and felt guilty for seeking Howard's attention when his mom gave him a lot of her time.
Last night he was in there, trying to wonder what to do if he never came back from something, where he would put Peter and who he could trust with his son. He sat at the piano for most of the night, playing old songs while he thought.
"I'm afraid you did. Peter refuses to leave, I'm sure you would be more successful in getting him out Sir." Tony smiled, of course, his son had to be stubborn.
"Morning Petey-pie," Tony said as he saw Peter reaching to touch the keys of the instrument. "Whatcha doing?" He asked as he walked over, all he got was Peter pointing to where he was trying to reach.
"Up!" Peter giggled when his father did as asked, more like demanded, and sat him down in his lap. Peter leaned over to play and giggled when the piano made a very low note. Tony chuckled and scooted a bit closer to play himself.

"Like this." He played a simple scale and laughed again when Peter copied his movements. His son was really becoming a genius, he learned and reacted quickly then other kids his age, and Tony was incredibly proud when doctors told him this. "Good Job Tesoro!"
"Like this" Maria spoke gently when Tony played a high key and then looked at his mother, confused as to how when she played it was always beautiful.
Her delicate hands played a few keys of the lullaby she often sang to Tony. She smiled before she began to sing to him, voice soft and soothing.
Ninna nanna, ninna oh,
Questo bimbo me lo terrò
Fa la ninna, fa la nanna
Nella braccia della mamma
Fa la ninna bel bambin,
Fa la nanna bambin bel,
Fa la ninna, fa la nanna
Nella braccia della mamma.
(Go to sleep, go to sleepy
In the arms of your mother,
Go to sleep, lovely child,
Go to sleepy, child so lovely,
Go to sleep, go to sleepy
In the arms of your mother.)
Tony smiled and kept his eyes on her hands. Remembering the way she gave him a kiss on the head before grabbing his hands and repeating the process.
Tony held his son's hands as he played the all too familiar keys, smiling when Peter giggled before he started just like his mother's, voice soft and soothing.
Ninna nanna, ninna oh,
Questo bimbo me lo terrò
Peter looked up to him, eyes big and innocent and Tony smiled. Peter smiled back at him, shifting to hug him.
He knew that he'd love his son, whether or not he was a genius but it meant a bit more when Peter showed signs of himself. Peter wasn't just like his mother, he was also like Tony, and Tony felt proud of knowing he helped put this adorable amazing child on Earth.

Author's note: I love the idea of kingdom-building novels and think the genre has a lot to offer, but I don't think many authors do them very well. Here is my attempt. The novel has a strong focus on politics and kingdom building, with occasional action and a bit of humor. Have fun. Cover was made by MrZombie Updates three times a week. First ever time writing so I'll definitely be listening to any constructive criticism you guys have to offer. I'll even pay attention to straight up criticism if I can see some merit in it.
