''Y/n! Get down!'' Your father yells at you. You get out of your room and walk downstairs. ''Someone forgot to bring milk from the grocery store, so you're going to get it now.'' He gives you some money and points at the door. You walk outside and begin to walk to the store.
It's a gloomy day. The sky is filled with clouds, but it isn't raining. Thank god. There have been times where you needed to walk 5 km to the store to get something while it was raining. Lucky for you the store is closer to your new house. You see a few cars passing you but one slows down and approaches you. The window rolls open.
''Where are you going?'' It's Jimmy. You look around to see if he's talking to anyone else. ''Wherever you need to go, I can take you there.'' You kinda feel uncomfortable by him approaching you again, but you accept his offer and get in the passenger seat of the car.
''I need to go to the nearest shop. My brother forgot to get milk so I have to get it.'' You rub your arm as you look outside.
He doesn't ask any questions and just drives to the nearest shop. ''I'll be waiting in the car, okay?''
You nod and open the door. You slam the door shut and walk over to the store. Once you're in front of the store some guy runs into you and quickly grabs the money out of your pocket. You get up and realise it's gone. The guy runs off quicker than you could ever run. Some woman saw it happen and walks up to you.
''Are you alright, young lady? Are you hurt?''

You look at your leg. Your pants are ripped open at your knee and your knee is slowly beginning to bleed. ''I'm fine. It's just a scratch. Nothing's broken.'' You fake laugh at the lady. Not a second later you feel a hand grabbing your arm. You immediatly turn around and grab the stranger's arm. ''Jimmy?'' You recognize his face and let go of him. You pull back your arm and put your hand on his shoulder. ''I'm sorry, I didn't know it was you.''
He looks at you and nods. ''It's okay. Are you hurt?'' He notices you bleeding and gets on his knees to look closer. ''This might become an infection if we don't clean it as soon as possible.''
You look down at him and rub your arm. ''I'm fine, really. I promise.''
Allthough he believes you, he gets up and shakes his head. ''Come on. We're going to clean this.'' He picks you up and drags you inside of the store.
''PUT ME DOWN!'' You yell, getting the whole store to pay attention to you. He ignores you and drags you to the counter, where he asks if the employees have a clean, wet cloth. One of the employees gives him one and he puts you down on the desk. He carefully puts it on your knee. Suddenly you feel the wound start to sting. You groan at him; ''Please take it off, it hurts.''
''If I don't clean it off now you will feel a lot more pain in the future.'' He snaps at you, and you immediatly become quiet. Him snapping at you reminds you of your father screaming at you. You tear up and look away. Jimmy eventually gets the cloth off. He looks at you and sees a tear running down your cheek. ''I'm sorry if it hurt that much. I just didn't want it to become infected.''

You nod. He obviously wouldn't understand the real reason why you were crying. Suddenly you realise you have no money to buy milk. ''My father is going to kill me if I don't come back with what he needs.'' You panic and begin to cry even more than you already were.
Jimmy grabs your shoulers and looks you in the eyes. ''Calm down. I'll buy it for you. How much do you need?''
You shake your head. ''No, please. I don't want you to. Please don't waste your money on me. It's my fault I lost mine.'' You look away, but Jimmy pushes your head into his direction so you look into his eyes again.
''Please don't say that. You're not a waste. If I can save you from being beaten by your father I will do it. No matter what you say I'm going to, anyways. I don't care about money.''
The tears stop flowing out of your eyes and you just look at the ground. You think for a second before looking back up at him and nodding. He slowly moves his hands over to your face to see if you're okay with it. Once you feel comfortable you close your eyes and he wipes the tears off your cheeks with his thumbs. You get off the desk and look around. ''Let's just get this over with.'' Together you two walk into the store and get the milk for your father.

Fateless: The Silver Lining
It has been ten years of peace for the Union since the end of the great war with the eastern barbarian tribes, yet in the cold north of the Union's land, a new threat is looming. This time, an ambitious Lord is seeking to restore the yore pride of his kin, forcing the weakened Union into yet another unwanted war, as he ramps up the ranks of his army with thieves, murderers and mercenaries.* * *The temperature inside the forge was nearly twice as high as the one outside. A black-haired girl hammered a steel ingot into the shape of a blade. The heat of the steam was draining her stamina away, but her focus remained sharp as her sweat streamed down her face. Hit after hit, for hours, the sound of the hammering steel followed the rhythm of her breathing. Exhausted, she placed the blade into the water and wiped the sweat off her face using a drenched rag. Why are they screaming? Vatra dipped the rag back in the water, twisted it, and approached the window. Her mouth opened as her world shattered again into the living nightmare she had wilfully tried to forget. She bit her lips; it wasn’t a dream. The pulse of her heart rose. A cold sweat prickled her back. A mother was running, and a child was screaming. A torrent of smoke was emerging from the roof of her neighbour. Vatra’s eyes blinked. The mother lay on the ground, a spear through her back. A torch circled in the air and landed on the roof of her workshop. In the distance, a man wearing a banner well known to the world… Fateless is a philosophical medieval dark low fantasy centered on war, militaristic campaigns and geopolitical conflicts between multiple empires. This story follows the fate of Vatra, a former slave from the eastern Nar Empire who was raised in a culture far away from her own, forced into warfare against her will, and the fate of Lanaya, an ambitious half-angel exiled from her home whose existence is seen as heresy. As they wished for peace, both chose a path opposed to one another until their fate crossed. In this story where war dictates the law, love strikes them as a poisoned balm to which they grasp for with all their might, as it is in the darkest of times that the smallest flames may burn the brightest. * * * Tome 1 already completed and available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Fateless-Silver-Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot/dp/B09LGSH1KK Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot-100547579135891/ I will publish 1 chapter per week (sometimes 2 if the chapters are too short for my liking).
