《different》side story 1 (epilogue)

sighed as she placed her pen down on the desk. another day without hyejin, yongsun, and byul was surprisingly very lonely. she slid her hand into her pocket to reach her phone. a small smile formed onto her lips.
jinnie:
i miss you so much
i wish my schedule would give us some time to hang together
wheenie i mith you
me:
we can go to the restaurant that you wanted to eat
jinnie:
alright i'll drive
me:
i don't trust you
jinnie:
why not :( i'm very good at driving
me:
mhm... let's just say its a treat from me
jinnie:
ok fine
thankfully, in college no one really cared that you were on your phone (or wheein would've really gotten in trouble). the teacher clasped her hands together and dismissed the tired students with a smile on her face. "yah jung wheein!" one of wheein's new friend called out to her. "hey seulgi," the taller of the two put her arm around wheein's shoulder. "we should go out to the new barbecue place. i heard it's really delicious!" seulgi flashed the cute smile that melted the puppy.
"i can't today. why don't you take joohyun," wheein walked around the campus with seulgi. "well—haha—you see," seulgi used her free arm to rub the back of her neck. "don't tell me you pissed her off," the bear put her hands up defensively. "look, i just told her that i'm not really interested in a relationship right now!" wheein groaned and pushed her glasses up her nose.
"you're terrible. really," seulgi crossed her arms and pouted. the pouting bear sighed and looked in her peripheral vision. "oh my god! there she is!" seulgi hid behind wheein. "what are you doing," the puppy narrowed her eyes at the taller girl attempting to hide behind herself.
"i don't know why, but i've been feeling really bad after telling her that. she looked upset and uhm—," wheein shrugged the taller girl off of her and stared at the bear straight in the eye. "look seulgi, didn't you tell me she was different to you?" the bear froze and looked down to the ground.
"that's the problem wheenie," seulgi pouted and crossed her arms. she quickly shook off her doubts and started walking towards the goddess.
problem solved
wheein quickly walked to her car, eager to see the cute lioness. her heart was already aching from the lack of attention she gets on the daily and she wasn't sure if she could handle any longer without hyejin (dramatically speaking, of course).

the girl sighed as she put the key inside her car. of course wheein was excited to see hyejin (she hasn't seen her in at least a month (face-to-face)), but the problem was that wheein thought hyejin would get bored of her.
it'd be safe to say that she wasn't always so hyper like yongsun, but also not so quiet like before. even though hyejin did come up to wheein first, it was because of pure curiosity and that she wanted some fun.
what if i can't offer her what i could've before?
it was hard enough seeing the puppy's lover because of how far away the college was, but the amount of homework plus a job was straining the relationship more and more. wheein pinched the bridge of her nose.
a small 'ding' notified her phone.
from: professor
hello students! here to remind you of the five-page essay due tomorrow! have a good night.
wheein groaned and gripped onto the steering wheel. damn wheein thought. she was only on page three of her essay and probably should work on her essay. wheein opened her phone to FaceTime her lover.
"wheeinie!" hyejin called out to the other. "hey jinnie," wheein tiredly smiled. "how's the bar?" hyejin flipped the camera roll to an empty bar. "it's actually about to open soon, don't worry i think chungha was about to take my shift." wheein smiled before letting out a deep groan.
"look, i have a five-page essay due tomorrow and i really should get back on writing that. is it alright if i bring it to your place?" wheein asked the other.
there was a short pause before hyejin replied.
"if you need to do your work it's alright wheeinie," hyejin told the other. wheein could already tell the disappointment in hyejin's voice. "i'm so sorry. next time, i promise," hyejin gave the puppy a soft smile before nodding her head.
"next time,"
hyejin sighed. it's been at least three months since she's seen wheein face-to-face. wheein can't be available all the time, she has things to do after all. hyejin also had a bar to tend to while juggling college. but that's the thing, hyejin CAN make time for wheein. wheein never did anything to make time for her, and even though she really shouldn't be upset. she was.
hyejin should be content that she even got wheein. she should be happy that wheein is trying to be with her. hyejin should be a lot of things, but she isn't.

"hey don't worry too much about wheein," chungha rubbed the back of hyejin's back. "i know, i know," hyejin huffed and cleaned the cup. the door ringed. "welcome to xxx bar—," hyejin turned to look at the customer.
"yongsun," the girl smiled at the older girl. "damn, do you ever pick up your phone?" yongsun shrugged off her coat. "how's you and byul," yongsun rolled her eyes. "don't tell me you two got into an argument," the older girl pouted and brought the cup of alcohol to her lips.
"i keep telling her that if she doesn't fucking wash her dishes after eating that i'll woop her ass, and she really mocked me for it. damn, i didn't think living with her would be so hard,"
hyejin chuckled at the two's antic.
that should be wheein and me.
the depressive thought came in and out of hyejin's mind quick as ever. it's fine, we've been together for six months. things should be fine between us.
"y'now i've been seeing less and less of wheein around here," yongsun glanced around the cozy bar. "she's been busy with college and work," hyejin placed her arms onto the counter. "i miss her but telling her to come here would be like forcing her to come here. she wouldn't enjoy herself,"
"in a relationship, there's usually something known as communication. byul and i do that most of the time," yongsun smiled at the girl before groaning. "key word: most of the time,"
hyejin sighed for a moment before taking her phone of her pocket.
me:
hey wheein. can we have dinner tonight?
wheenie:
yeah of course, why?
me:
because i never get to see you
hyejin knew that she was gonna be told that wheein was busy in an hour or two, but today she wasn't going to let wheein be by herself. she needs to talk things through with her.
hyejin breathed in an anxious breath. she quickly sat at the dinner table, waiting for her lover to come. "hyejin!" the puppy walked in. hyejin's breath stopped for a moment. all her anxiety washed away with the sight of wheein walking in a tight black dress and matching heels (she even wore her contacts).
she's never seen wheein so open before.
"wheenie!" hyejin waved at the puppy. "i missed you so much, you don't even know," wheein breathed out (also very astonished at how amazing hyejin looked). "i wanted to talk to you about something," wheein sat down with a small smile on her face.
as if she already knew what this was about.
"but first, let's order something i'm hungry," wheein chuckled. "of course,"
the smell of steak was enough for hyejin's anxiety to go away, but not wheein's. she knew why hyejin wanted to talk to her. she knew why hyejin was so distant. but wheein, was definitely not ready to come to dinner tonight. but if she didn't go, the relationship would end.
"look wheein, we haven't seen each other in what, two months?" hyejin pulled on her fingers under the table. "i miss you so much, but if we can't have time to be together," hyejin paused.
wheein's eyes enlarged. "hyejin," there were no words that wheein could come up with. this was the problem with long-distance, they would miss each other too much. "i'll try my best to come here. you know that i've been swamped with work and especially college," wheein reasoned with the girl.
"but, i understand where you're coming from and i'll do better to be here with you," wheein gave the girl a reassuring smile. hyejin stared at the girl for a minute. "you promise?"
"i promise,"
hyejin gave the girl a big smile before leaning in close to the girl's ear. "how about i give you the best gift and make you feel real good tonight? you look amazing in that dress," hyejin quickly sat back in her seat as if she hadn't said anything.
"yah—you—you can't just say something like that," wheein's cheeks turned red.
"i'll make up all the time we weren't together all in one night. sounds good to you?" wheein placed her hands on her cheeks before nodding her head in agreement.
she was in a predicament that she really didn't mind.
