Angelica sighed before putting her head in her hands. She really messed up. Not for one but for three reasons. One she was late to arguably one of the biggest events in New York City. Two she had ruined her thousand-dollar dress that was bought for this specific event. And three the last but worst mistake was giving the city of New York another reason to criticize she and her family. Angelica screamed into her hands forgetting she was in a taxi with an odd smelling driver and a very good looking stranger.

"I don't think I've run that fast since high school."

Angelica looked up from her hands to see the reporter sporting the same smile he had just a couple of moments ago when saving her from being trampled by the reporters of New York. Angelica laughed at the stupid but helpful remark.

"Thanks for that by the way."

"No problem. Consider it my thank you for accepting my apology."

Angelica nodded.

"I'm Angelica."

The man next to her raised an amused eyebrow.

"I know who you are, god I think everyone in this city knows who you are. If that crowd didn't prove it I don't know what the hell will."

Angelica blushed at her own stupidity. Of course, everyone knew who she was. This stranger knew who she was. The whole damn city Knew who she was. The guy must've noticed her embarrassment because he took out his hand for her to shake.

"I'm Alexander."

Angelica smiled before returning the gesture.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Alexander."

"The pleasure is all mine."

Angelica turned to rest her head on the cab window before she felt her new friend Alexander tap her on the shoulder.

"From many years of sleeping on school bus windows, I know it's uncomfortable."

He looked down at his shoulder signaling that she was welcome to lay her head down. Angelica smiled before accepting the invitation.

"Thanks."

Alexander smiled before resting his head on his free arm making sure Angelica was in the most comfort you could be in the back of a New York City cab and Angelica just enjoyed the 30 minute drive before feeling the wrath of her mother and the guests at the party.

MISTAKES MADE

What was the best way to describe Margarita Schuyler? Attractive, self centered, rich, spoiled, amongst many other similar traits but one of her most underappreciated talents would have to be how observant she was. Many people including her family thought that she was so focused on herself that she never payed attention to anyone else or their problems but that's where they were wrong. And unsurprisingly Margarita used that to her advantage and the annual senate dinner was no different. She noticed how Abigale Adams looked disgusted with her husband John and his horrible manners. It was true the man looked like an animal when he was eating. The youngest Schuyler sister also caught sight of her Father conversing with President Washington and her mother checking her watch to see what time her oldest and unfashionably late daughter would arrive but when Angelica did finally show up Margarita saw the longing feeling of love in her oldest sisters eyes.

Margarita put her hand on her boyfriend's arm before excusing herself from the current conversation she was in. Margarita was halfway to Angelica but alas her mother was faster.

"Angelica what happened to you."

At the comment, Peggy couldn't help but notice her sister's current disheveled state. Angelica's once sparkly emerald dress was covered in dirt and what looked to be like puddle water. She also took note of her hair that was once brushed and straight was back to its natural long, curly state. Not to mention that her heels looked more like worn down sneaker instead of 100 dollar feet tortures. Once Margret was done evaluating her appearance she moved to her face. To the untrained eye, Angelica looked like a hot mess but Marget Angelica looked like a hot mess that was in love. Her lips were slightly turned up representing a smile and her eyes that usually represented exhaustion were filled with what looked like wonder. Margret smiled. Angelica looked younger when she wasn't carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Margret continued to admire her sister when her mother's annoyed voice broke her investigation of her sister.

"You look like you got run over. Angelica.. are you listening to me."

Angelica looked up at her mother in surprise.

"What?"

Angelica's mother scoffed before rubbing the space between her eyes.

"Margarita I know you have an extra dress and shoes in the coat check. Go get it and fix Angelica up in the bathroom. Please, for my sake."

Margret nodded before grabbing her sister by her arm. Many guests stared at Peggy and her lovesick sister but didn't dare say anything considering they were one of the most powerful guests at the party. Margret afforded them all apologetic smiles before rushing her sister into the bathroom.

"Who's the guy?"

Angelica did a terrible job of hiding her smile with fake confusion

"What do you mean guy?"

Peggy frowned while using her perfected eye roll.

"Angelica I'm not stupid. People only ever look that way if one they just got a pardon to get out of jail or if they're in love."

"How do you know it's a guy."

"Because you've never shown interest in the female sex and if you did the world would know about it by now."

Angelica nodded before letting the rest of the smile she had been previously been hiding take control of her face.

"I met the one Peggy."

Margaret's eyes went wide partly because she couldn't believe that her usually angry at the world sister was smiling and also being because Angelica had always said that love takes time and she had only been looking this way for an hour.

"How do you know."

Angelica shrugged before taking the spare dress with her into the stall.

"With things like these you just know. I mean wouldn't you fall in love with the guy who saved your life and he just happened to be the most handsome person you've ever seen."

Margret put her hands on her hips before deciding what question to ask first. Saying that your life was in danger and the guy that saved it was handsome left room for a lot of questions.

"When saving your life do you mean like he saved your coffee from spilling or like he saved a bullet from impaling you."

Angelica let out a small childish laugh.

"In the middle of both. He saved me from getting trampled by the press."

Margaret's eyebrows furrowed.

"How so."

"He grabbed my arm to run away from them and the hailed our somewhat get away cab."

Angelica then proceeded to talk about a cab and a shoulder more to herself than anyone. Once Angelica had finished her story she was more able to focus on the task at hand and that task was getting dressed. When she was done and stepped out of stall and even Peggy who deliberately tried to compliment no one but herself had to say something. Angelica's long emerald green dress was switched out for a short knee-length black one that showcased her model-like legs. A trait in which she inherited from their mother. She was the first and only Schuyler to be blessed with such a trait. Her also once straight hair was back in its natural, long, curly state. She had it styled in a low ponytail with a few loose hairs to frame her face. She also had black open-toed heels to go with her dress and silver diamond studs. But the biggest change in her appearance would have to be her makeup-free face. She got rid of the overpowering eyeshadow that had been on her lids and she decided to go with clear gloss rather than heavy matt lipstick. All in all, Angelica looked, well angelic.

"You look great."

"Thanks."

Angelica looked towards the door with a frown. Once she and Margarita stepped out they would no longer be two sisters having fun at a party. They would be two young women at a social event living up to their family's name. Margarita noticed the distress on her sister's face before speaking.

"You'll do great. Just smile nod and wave."

Angelica laughed at the words that had been hammered into their brains their whole lives. Angelica counted to three before stepping out. And even though the rational part of her brain was telling her to go into her proper Schuyler mode the other, happier part was telling er to enjoy the feeling of bliss.
