《Shieldmaiden of Gondor - Aragorn Romance》17

The three hunters ran on for many days and nights, not resting for a moment. Now, Aragorn lay with his ear pressed to a rock, and Gimli turned to Legolas, who stood beside him, a ways away from the man.
"He has been acting differently lately, have you noticed? He may grieve, but he is not one to allow it to stay with him. Does it not worry you?" Legolas smiled sadly, his eyes also directed to their companion.
"It would if I did not know the reason. He was close to Miriel, Gimli. Closer, I believe, than any but her brothers could ever hope to be. And they were so very dear to one another. I think he will grieve for her until he passes from this world to join her in whatever comes after." Gimli looked up at his tall friend, confused.
"What are you suggesting?" Legolas gave a wry laugh.
"I suggest nothing. He loved her with all his heart, and I am certain that she returned the sentiment."
"Well it was clear he liked her, but I was not aware the affection ran so deep. How are you sure she returned it?" Legolas sighed, turning to his companion.
"That necklace was no mere token of passage or sign to her family, Gimli. Such a thing is more precious than that. It is a token of the love or esteem of a Shieldmaiden of Gondor, and a very rare thing at that. It was obvious she held him in high esteem, there was no need to convey that message. She loved him. I only wish they had been given more time together in this life."

Somewhere, closer to Mordor, Frodo and Sam attempted to persuade Gollum, or rather Smeagol as they had taken to calling him, to cooperate. He was hungry, and was refusing to move again until he had fish.

Frodo put a hand on Sam's shoulder.
"Let me try." He approached the writhing creature. "That's enough, Smeagol. I know you're hungry, but you can hunt as we go, alright? No more whining about it." The creature looked up angrily, Gollum gaining control once again, and stalked towards Frodo, causing Sam to tighten his grip on the elvish rope and short sword at his waist, waiting for Frodo to signal him. But there was no need.
The second the creature looked up into the hobbit's eyes, a different pair flashed through his mind, blocking all from sight but an image of the blinding irises he had only seen once before, underneath the mountain what seemed so long ago. The stern command in those eyes made Gollum writhe in terror, and allowed Smeagol to take control once again. The strange being popped to his feet, happily looking at the hobbits.
"This way then, hobbitses! Smeagol can hunt in the little river, fishes very good. Follow Smeagol!" The two hobbits looked at each other for a moment in confusion as they followed. Why had he gone from screaming on the ground about elves and witches to grinning and happily agreeing with them? Sam realized what had happened first.
"It's your eyes, mister Frodo!" Frodo looked at him, extremely confused.
"My eyes?" Sam nodded.
"They're a lot like Lady Miriel's. Remember how much like Galadriel she looked? I'll bet ol' Gollum heard stories about elf witches and he's seen Miriel before."
"Where though?"
"In the mine when we were lost! He was screeching his head off about them when you were sleeping. She always looks like she can see your soul, I'll bet that scared him." Frodo's eyes widened in realization, much to Sam's confusion. "What?" Frodo grinned.
"Miriel scares Gollum, enough that Smeagol can come back out and take control! She's protecting us even though we're so far away from them, Sam. Just like she always said."

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes

I always dreamed of being one of the Awakened, one of the heroes that fights back the Insanity on his own terms. They’re always pictured driving the newest cars, wearing the latest clothes, using the best gene-mods and implants. They’re supposed to be more than just human. At least, that’s what I thought until I Awakened. Now my life is a mess of corporate intrigue, shifty politics, cyberzombies and at least one group of revolutionaries whose ideas are sounding better every day. I never wanted to be the punk that brought the system down, but the temptation to just glitch out is growing by the minute. Glitch is a Cyberpunk LitRPG set in a near future where some people are given abilities that allow them to do things that no normal human could ever do. This fiction is written, maintained and owned by Edgar Malboeuf. Copyright 2018

Wherever you go, whether it be be a bustling metropolis or wild and untamed lands, sentients of every race and creed have some sort of belief in the supernatural. Every culture has stories of mighty beings, incomprehensible in both nature and noticeably, malice. Though many once wished for these stories to be true, they eventually lost much of the significance they once held; yet, the people who told the tales in the first place left them there as lessons. Vital lessons, and more importantly, warnings. Because even though humanity and it's allies had taken to the heavens and prospered like never before, their actions had caused sleeping dragons to stir. Across the universe, a bitter war between mortal and spiritual forces is being waged. Humanity now faces extinction, and if we don't play our cards right, extinction is all but certain. But even though their adversaries have veritable gods among them, humanity still has a few tricks up it's sleeve...
