He wrote back to her telling her 'weren't women happier when they weren't involved in politics' this did not bode well with Angelica and conversation later ceased.

Despite this Angelica did write to Alexander about Jefferson's affair with Hemmings before Jefferson got back to America. Allowing Alexander to paint his portrait of his future foe pre-introduction.
