《The Cellphone Swap》Chapter 9

That's when I thought of it. I had the perfect plan, and o wouldn't let him down.
I was driving in the passenger seat of my moms car watching the cars roll by. And suddenly I thought of it. The perfect plan. I would take Matthew to the Colorado mountains. He loves it there and was always talking about going back. I would take him there and he would be happy. It could be like old times.
I was going to go meet Matt at a new cafe that opened up down the street. He always liked to try new things, that wasn't me though. I stepped through the door and found him immediately. Like always, a table by the window. I walk and sit down.
"Hey." He says.
"Got your bags?"
"Of course."
He leans over and kisses me. I smile and we both order chi tea lattes. We head to the car and I drive, all the way to Colorado.
We've got the windows down and the music blaring in the background. We're at a traffic light. That's when he looks over at me and says,
"I love you."
"I love you too."
There's tears in his eyes. "There's something I need to tell you, before I die."
"No no no! Do not speak like that. Your going to make it."
"Bridg- I want you to know that I love you. I've always loved you. And your going to meet a nice guy, who will always treat you right-." Tears roll down his cheeks as he chokes on the words. He's full out crying now, and I don't know what to do. "And you guys are going to love each other. You guys will have four kids, two boys and two girls. And you'll live in Michigan in a two story house. And one of the daughters is going to find her true love, and he'll be right next door but so far away that it hurts. You know why? Because that's how you know Love is real." I'm crying too now and he leans over and wipes them away. Beep beep. Cars honk their horns. I look back at him one more time and drive towards Colorado.

We finally get to the hotel. When it's dark outside. We carry our luggage in and fall on top of the bed.
"How are you tired?" Matt says.
"I literally drove for however long it too is to get here!" I yell into the pillow.
"Let's watch the sun rise." Matthew says crawling over to me. "We could watch it from the mountains. Oh we could make a little picnic out of it. Wine, cheese, burgers."
I laugh and elbow him playfully.
"And then we could go skinny dipping in the snow."
This makes me laugh more and I snort into the pillow.
"Or just watch the sunrise." I say turning over on my side.
"Whatever." He shrugs.
"Okay, come on!" I say grabbing his hand and running down to the elevator.
I run out and find a chair. We sit down and cuddle and watch the sun rise and the moon set. It's funny how you can look at things. It's just a sun rising and a moon setting but I looked deeper into that. I guess when ever something dies a new thing is born. It's the circle of life. Something has to die for another thing to live. I look over at Matthew as he watches the sun. We go back to the cabin and write down everything we plan to do.

During a mission to the edge of the known world, Brigadier Weyland James discovered that humanity faces a threat so terrible that the sane mind can barely conceive it. Failure to meet this threat would mean the end of human civilisation, mankind thrown back to a life of wandering savagery, easy prey for the true masters of the planet who see humans as mere animals, theirs to use and exploit as they see fit.Hope exists, if all mankind can unite, putting aside their petty differences for the greater good, but the truth is so unbelievable that the Brigadier faces an almost impossible task in convincing the leaders of the human world. His task is made even harder by the fact that several governments have been infiltrated by agents of the enemy, who are using their influence to sow seeds of war and chaos. The Brigadier is not mankind's only hope, though. In Helberion, a small group of scientists, struggling to make a major scientific breakthrough, is being hampered by assassination and sabotage. Is this the work of the enemy of mankind? King Leothan hopes it is, because it would mean that the enemy fears this new science, that it could be used to create a powerful weapon against them. A weapon that could be the Saviour of Mankind. The Electric Messiah... This is the sequel to Ontogeny. If you haven't read that book yet you must read it before you read this book.
