"losing him was blue like I'd never known

missing him was dark grey all alone

forgetting him was like trying to know someone you've never met

but loving him was red"

Gilbert made his way slowly through the snow. His boots made a soft crunch every time he took a step, the cold winter's morning filled with snow and ice. His nose was bright red, as he slowly thought about Amelia. He felt terribly guilty, it had been his fault, he had hurt her feelings. Yet he couldn't bring himself to talk to her. It's probably for the best, he thought.

As much as he had strong feelings for the blonde girl, he didn't know if she even returned them, and if she did, it's probably best if they left it as it was. Gilbert didn't know when he'd return, if he ever. He just wished they could have ended well, as friends, with no hard feelings so it'd be all good if he came back. Now, whenever he would think about Avonlea, he'd remember her tear-struck face as he lashed out, like she said he would. God, she was always wise.

He smiled softly as he remember how wise Amelia actually was, and how he loved that about her. She didn't care what other people thought about her, she didn't care about the pettiness of other students at school; she was her own true self, and Gilbert admired that about her. She was truly happy; until he came along.

Gilbert continued walking, carrying a sack on one of his shoulders, and didn't realise Billy and his friends were behind him until Billy called out. "Hey, Gilbert!" Gilbert stalled for a second, while Billy and company catches up with him. Gilbert, too tired to think of an answer, just looked at him expectantly while he continued his way. "How's it going, Blythe?" Gilbert sighed, muttering his answer. "Fine."

Billy noticed the tension, so brought up the subject Gilbert least wanted to talk about. "So I heard you and Amelia called it quits, bud. It's a relief to hear." Billy smugly said, searching for an answer, a reaction. Gilbert clenched his jaw, before replying. "What do you care?" Billy, shocked at Gilbert's passiveness, continued talking. "We needed a guy to put her in her place, to show her she's not smart or pretty. Congratulations for that, anyway." Gilbert would not let anyone talk that way about Amelia, even if they weren't speaking.

"She's smart and pretty. Deal with it." Billy frowned, before chuckling, obviously thinking Gilbert was joking. "Why you gotta be like that, bud?" Gilbert paused, and turned around to give him a glance. "Why don't you bust out a book and take care of it yourself?" Billy, still thinking it was all a joke, rolled his eyes. "Yeah, right. Good one, bud." Gilbert stopped walking and put his hand on Billy's shoulder, anger blazing in his eyes. "I'll give you a tip, okay?" He took his hand off and took a few steps backwards.

Billy paused, insecure. "Yeah?" Gilbert kept a neutral look on his face. "I'm not your bud." When Billy didn't answer, surprise evidently on his facial features, Gilbert continued with his threat. "And if you ever hassle or insult Amelia again, you'll regret it."

"Yeah, right." Said Billy, confused and insecure, and Gilbert repeated him mockingly. He shook his head, and turned around while he continued his way. He didn't have time for this nonsense. Bully frowned, and followed close behind. "What's your problem?" Gilbert, sick of Billy's I'm to good for you attitude, turned around briskly. "Ask me that again." He said angrily, taking a few steps towards Billy, who maintained in his place. When Billy didn't answer and just looked confused at his friends, Gilbert took another step forwards.

"No, seriously. Ask me that again." He said, not as threatening as before, but still dry. "Why you gotta be like that?" Billy finally replied, nervously not wanting to be in this situation. "Ask me!" Gilbert shouted, as they both stared at each other closely. When Billy didn't say anything, Gilbert tried to get away walking, but billy finally said something. "Come on, bud! I don't get you. Seriously, what's your problem?" Gilbert rolled his eyes, and turned around.

Gilbert threw his sack to Billy, who caught it confused, and threw a good punch, his fist landing right on his face. His friends just stood there, awkwardly not knowing what to do. Billy, who had fallen on the snow, quickly got up, humiliation written all over his face before he threw the sack aside and ran towards Gilbert, and took him to the ground by the legs, which left Billy on top. Gilbert grunted as he landed on the snow with the boy on top of him, who punched him strong and fast before Gilbert pulled him down and rolled over on top.

Gilbert pressed him down, before punching him once again hardly, before standing up and pushing him away. Gilbert panted tiredly, before threateningly coming close to Billy, who moved away scared, still laying on the floor. Gilbert picked up his sack, which was thrown to a side of the woods, and looked at Billy once, before slowly limping away.
