Louis wraps his hands around his cup. The heat seeping through the china from his coffee instantly warms his cold hands.
"It's getting so cold out there." Ashton faked a shiver as he sat down in the small booth, sitting directly in front of Louis.
"I know." Louis laughed, "I'm going to have to start bringing out my water bottle with me."
Ashton chuckled, shaking his head a little as he laughed. "That doesn't sound too bad of an idea, actually." Louis smiled.
"So," Louis began, "how's the band going? Luke said you're getting ready to record?"
Ashton instantly perked up in his seat. "Yeah, yeah it's going great. We've written a few more songs and we have recorded a couple. We're hoping to record enough for an album." The grin on his face was precious.
"Oh wow." Louis smiled. "All of the hard work is paying off then."
"Yeah, hopefully." Ashton nodded. They both came to a silence, not an awkward one, just one where Louis knew Ashton wanted to say something, but Ashton was to afraid.
"Ash," Louis broke it.
"Hmm?" Ashton looked up at the boy, a mixture of question and even a little bit of guilt.
"You can ask me. I know that's what you're waiting to do. I won't bite, I promise." His grip on his cup got a little harder.
"I'm sorry. I just- he... I know you still love him, Louis. You said it yourself. And I know- trust me- I know you're not ready yet, it hasn't been long enough. But I- he just- is there a chance? Y'know, that you could work it out? The pair of you were so amazing together. I had never seen anyone make him so happy. I know I haven't known you that long, or that well, but he keeps telling me- Harry keeps saying how you were the best thing to ever happen to him, and I believe him. You made him better."
Louis had to tell himself mentally to not give in. To not cry- again. "If I made him better, then why did he do such a terrible thing."
"Louis," Ashton leant forward, his hands moving along the table with his cub between them. "I know Harry. I know him very well and I trust him with all my heart that he'd never, ever do something like this again. Especially to you. I can admit, the fact that he did it in the first place, that hurt even me. He shouldn't be getting even as close to getting into bed with someone, never mind actually doing it. And I've told him that- I gave him a speech about how he fucked up. But I didn't even need to- because he already knows Louis. He knows and I know and you know. But I also know that you mean the absolute world to him. Even now, when he knows you most probably will never forgive him. He loves you Lou, and I can promise you he'd never do anything like this ever again."

Louis didn't know what to do. He shook his head a little, thinking. "But what about: once a cheater, always a cheater? Huh? That didn't become a saying for nothing. I know Harrys your friend Ashton. Your best friend. But what he did to me. The pain he caused me. After everything I've been through- I really don't think I could risk it again."
"Not even the slightest chance?"
Louis stayed quiet, his eyes diverting to his cup of coffee in his hands. He stayed quiet until Ashton spoke again.
"Please just think about it. You love him, you've said it yourself. Sometimes, sometimes love is worth the risk."
Louis closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "I think I should go," he said quietly.
"Lou-"
"I should go." Louis repeated himself, letting go of the cup for the first time since it had been handed to him. "Thank you," Louis said, looking over to Ashton quickly. "For the coffee." He finished.
Louis rushed through the cafe carefully, trying his best to not walk into anyone with his blurred vision, but he failed, just as he got to the door.
"I'm so sor-"
"Lou." Louis looked up and he wasn't sure if his heart broke or sped up.
"No." He whispered. "No." He said louder. He tried to move by, but Harry was stood in front of the door and didn't seem to want to live out of his way. "I need to- can you- I just-" Louis couldn't even seem to form the sentence.
"Louis." He could hear the slight begging sound in Harrys voice.
"No, you can't do this."
"Louis please, just listen." Louis looked up, causing eye contact.
"No! No! No, you don't get to tell me what to do. You don't expect me to listen to you. Not after you lied to me for God knows how long you kept that dirty secret for." Louis was surprised he had managed he'd to get the first word out, never mind all of it. "Why are you here? Was this the plan? Get Ashton to talk to me and persuade me to take you back? Huh?"
Harry froze, "no- no I never even- Ashton told me you were going for coffee- he never told me where- I didn't tell him anything Lou, I promise."

"Don't call me that." Louis flinched, his icy blue eyes still staring into Harrys green. "And don't make any promises. Who knows, you might not know if you'll be able to keep them."
"That's it!" Harry shouted. "That's it! I hurt you, for heavens sake, I know I did. I broke a promise, a promise to never hurt you. The one promise I should have kept I broke. And it's fucked up my life. It has. But I will do what ever it takes- even if it means flying through the sky, across the whole of the world with nothing but a pair of children's fairy wings, I will do what ever it takes to make it happen, if it gave me the slightest bit of chance to get you to even think about forgiving me."
Harry took a ragged breath and Louis' shield had broken a little.
"You've got my heart. And I know I can't say it enough- I messed up big time. But you'll always have it. That's a promise I will never break."
Louis tore his eyes away, diverting them to the ground informs of him. His eye tightening shut, squeezing them, not letting anything escape. Taking a deep, shaky breath, Louis looked back up, trying to show Harry as little emotion as possible. "Can you please move, I need to go." How voice cracked half way through and he did not miss the hurt in Harrys gave nor the drop of his shoulders when Harry stepped to the side.
It was when Louis took a step past Harry that he realised how fast his heart was actually beating.
"Wait, Louis," Harry called out. Louis kept his hand on the open doors handle, not turning his body but not walking away. "Please, if you can find it in you to just let me talk, meet me at Kings street park tomorrow. Just to talk. Please."
Louis didn't give an answer, just pulled the door open a little bit more before leaving, the door closing in the silent cafe.
Harry turned and he realised that nearly everyone in that whole room had heard nearly everything that had its happened. He cursed at himself under his breath before catching Ashton's eye from across the room.
He kept his head low as he walked over to the booth as the back of the shop. "You really just did that." Ashton said. "You really just did that, in a cafe, in front of everyone. You really just-"
"Yeah okay, I know."
"What the hell were you thinking!" The chatter in the shop had now picked up. "You can't just pop up to where he is and expect him to talk!"
"I know!" Harry whisper shouted back. "I didn't know you were going to be here, I swear. I wouldn't have come if I did."
"Well I just want to congratulate you. It's most likely that Louis' never going to speak to me again." Ashton sat back in his booth, sighing. "And you really expect him to turn up tomorrow? Really? After breaking his heart?"
"No," Harry sighed. "But I have to at least have a little hope. I have to at least try something."
