《Little Thief (Black Butler G/T)》Chapter Eleven

Once the last of the dishes were scrubbed clean and dried, Kadence huffed loudly and looked at her soaking wet uniform. Her arms were tired, her hands ached, and other than the dress Sebastian had given to her when she had taken her bath, she didn't have any other clothes. She didn't know for certain what she should say to the butler currently putting away pans that weighed enough to crush her. He might be too busy to help her get more clothing choices.

Sebastian could feel the tiny being watching him. He knew she was drenched. And since there wasn't much else to do, he figured since the weather was warm enough he could take the Borrower outside to dry in the sun while possibly helping him in the gardens. He'd have to keep an eye on her to make sure she didn't possibly try to run away. "Kadence?" He spoke up, seeing her jump, startled out of the corner of his eye.

"O-Oh! Yes, sir?" The redhead stood quickly and smoothed down her apron, trying not to look as exhausted as she felt. She didn't want to move her arms anymore and would love nothing more than to curl back up on the soft pillow she'd used earlier to rest on.

"We're heading out to the gardens. You will be able to dry in the sun and continue some chores out there. I'll be sure the others don't see you, as I am uncertain how they would react to someone of your...special differences." Sebastian fixed one of his soaked gloves, clicking his tongue in disapproval. He would take them off and wring them out, but can't in present company.

Sebastian's shoulders tensed and he cast a glance over his shoulder at the kitchen door. Light tapping of shoes could be heard down the hall and moving towards the door. Bard no doubt. Probably the least dangerous to Kadence besides Tanaka. Bard was just dangerous in the kitchen when it came to cooking, always wanting to use flamethrowers and any other explosives the 'chef' could get his hands on. If he wasn't so valuable to protect the mansion, the butler would have gotten rid of the fool ages ago.

With lightning speed but precise movements, he curled his gloved fingers around the Borrower and tucked her into the front pocket of his tailcoat just as the other male walked into the room.

Kadence didn't have time to react when giant fingers trapped her in a fist, one of them pushing hard into her stomach. She was glad she was only in the grip for a second after being shoved into a dark pocket and was going to shout at the tall man, but then she could hear someone else enter the room. That explained why the grip had been that tight and why she was moved so quick. It didn't fix the pain that now throbbed in her stomach. Not nausea or cramps, just somewhere she could feel a bruise will definitely show.

Sebastian attempted to ignore the odd sensation of having a tiny being squirming around in his pocket. The fact he had a tiny, breathing humanoid girl he could quite literally have in the palm of his hand. He was going to address Bard and figure out what the blonde was doing, but the chef only placed a bag of sugar on the counter before turning to face the butler.

"I ran a couple errands since we were out of some stuff. Figured with what the master assigned you to a special job and all you wouldn't ave' the time."

Sebastian furrowed his brows and exited the kitchen without a word of thanks to Bard. The Earl wouldn't have told anyone else about the Borrower, would he? It seemed like something he would do, but Sebastian couldn't be sure.

He placed his gloved hand gently overtop of the pocket where Kadence was, trying to give her the signal to calm down but the movement continued, almost panicked now. Now his curiosity was growing. Why was the Borrower suddenly seeming afraid?

The tall butler rushed to the garden outside, ensuring no one else was around as he reached into his pocket and removed Kadence from the tailcoat. "Why are you moving around so much?" Sebastian questioned, lowering her into an open palm with his gaze fixated on her.

Kadence exhaled sharply and took a deep breath of fresh air as soon as she could, letting the warmth fill her lungs. "F-Forgive me. S-Something touched your pocket and I didn't know what it was." She hesitantly turned her emerald eyes to meet his, her heart beating frantically in her chest.

"That's a rather poor excuse." He mumbled, taking in her now disheveled appearance. "But whether it is the truth or not, do you think you'd be able to pull weeds? Or if not, you could pick the dead petals off of the flowers."

While it was the truth, and she felt very stupid, Kadence only nodded her head in response. The hand she was sitting on tilted, her feet touching a vertical stem that easily supported her light weight.

Sebastian had only guessed the branch would support her but was surprised to find it actually had. Her incredibly small size could prove to be rather useful. Kneeling on the ground, he began to weed the area. He expected Kadence would do just fine on her own, and sure enough, dead petals began to float down past his head and into the grass.

A small smile cracked on his lips. A light touch made him look up to see Kadence staring at him with wide eyes, her hands covering her mouth. "What?" he muttered quietly, lifting a brow as he tried to figure out why she looked like that.

"Um...a-a lot of petals landed in your hair." Kadence pointed, her hands suddenly shaking. She didn't know if the butler would get upset, or scold her for being careless. But that never came. Instead, his hand brushed the petals from his head and he held them in his palm.

His crimson eyes turned to look at her again and he blew the dead petals off his hand and they scattered them around the redheaded Borrower. His lips now curled into an amused smirk, and he leaned in, stopping only a foot away from her. "There, now I believe we are even."

Kadence only stared in disbelief, ready to lift her hands in defense but the butler didn't do anything but scatter the petals around her. Her own mouth lifted, and she smiled up at the tall raven haired man. She couldn't understand him. One moment he's stern and terrifying, the next he's calm and almost playful. She really wants to learn more about him.
