《Metanoia》Epilogue

You held Polnareff in your hands as you stood outside the large building that was a research lab, the very one you were doing your schoolwork at.
"I can't believe you need to go here too, isn't that bizarre?"
You smiled and looked down at him, he asked Bucciarati to drop him off in Capri before going back to Naples, and they dropped you off there at the same time. So you kept Polnareff company, and strangely enough, he asked you to take him to the address where you would do your research.
"Yes, very bizarre. An old friend is working here, and he knows about the stand arrows too. We can discuss how the arrow affected you, and at the same time, I can see my old friend again. I haven't seen him in so long."
You nodded and made sure your name tag was visible before you entered the impressive building. You had a bag holding your papers and notes on your shoulder and a scrap of paper with an office number scribbled on it in your right hand.
"I'll take you to your old friend after I meet the professors."
You made your way over to the elevators with a smile, it was a dream come true to be in the building, and you hoped to work in the very same building someday.
"Does your friend know you've become a turtle?"
You looked at him and pressed the button to the fifth level. No one questioned why you and a turtle, they were used to it as you expected. The doors closed and Polnareff shook his head.
"No."
You kept an eye on the levels you were on.
"How do you think he'll react?"
You were trying to focus on the conversation to distract yourself from the overwhelming excitement that was building up.
"He's seen much stranger things in his life even with how young he is and he isn't one to show much emotion. He'll be more disappointed with how much trouble I've managed to get myself into rather than surprised."
He laughed and you laughed until the ding from the elevator interrupted you. You looked at the levels and saw the number five on the small panel above the entrance.
"I'm sure he'll be happy you're still alive, just barely."
You stepped out of the elevator and looked at the office number. There weren't many people in the halls or much noise so you tried to be quiet in case they were working on something deadly serious. You stopped in front of a large door and quietly knocked.

"Come in."
You smiled and grabbed the door handle, then, you began to open the door.
"Oh, this is the office Jotaro's working in!"
You had one foot through the door and looked down at Polnareff.
"Wait, Jotaro Kujo?"
Your eyes were wide and you looked up to see the Jotaro Kujo, sitting at his temporary desk while you closed the door and your jaw dropped.
"Jotaro!"
Jotaro looked up from the papers he was writing on and up at you. Then at Polnareff who you were holding.
"J-Jotaro Kujo is your old friend?"
You were speechless and Jotaro didn't have any emotion on his face.
"Yes, Jotaro it's me, Polnareff. Take me over there."
He looked up at you and you broke from your frozen state and walked to Jotaro's desk. You set Polnareff down and Jotaro set him down.
"What did you get yourself into?"
Polnareff was right, he didn't show much surprise and you were still in shock. One, you would be studying with Jotaro Kujo and other marine biologists, two, Polnareff was friends with him, and three, he was a stand user apparently.
"Stand arrow business, speaking of the arrows Y/n right here got hit by the arrow after already possessing a stand."
Jotaro looked up at you and then looked at his computer, he scrolled through it and the silence was killing you.
"Y/n L/n? The one who won the study trip?"
He turned back to you and you nodded quickly. Without warning, Star Platinum appeared by his side and went to punch you. Your eyes widened and Ocean Man came out to protect you. Instead of trying to stop the punch it just pushed SP's forearm at the perfect moment to redirect the punch.
"Idiacanthus atlanticus."
Jotaro called his stand back and showed no emotion. You were still a freaked out that one of the people you looked up to the most just tried to punch you.
"The Black Dragonfish. Interesting."
You nodded while looking at him like he was insane.
"Mr. Kujo y-you're a stand user?"
Jotaro nodded.
"Yes."
Ocean Man returned to you and you were still looking at him crazily.
"Did I hear right that you were hit by the arrow twice?"
He crossed his legs and leaned on his desk. You took a seat in one of the chairs in front of him and nodded.
"Well yes, but-"
"And how did that affect your stand?"
You were reaching towards your back when he interrupted you and you paused for a moment.

"Mr. Kujo I'm here for my study trip, not stand business."
He nodded and leaned back in his chair. He spun his chair and stood up. He grabbed a notebook and a pencil and looked at you.
"Walk with me."
You stood up after only sitting for a few seconds and you left Polnareff on his desk.
"Where are we going?"
He walked towards the office door and opened it.
"The aquarium. Polnareff do what you want just don't mess up anything."
He walked through the doorway and didn't hold the door open for you, you had to catch it and reopen to slip through it. Polnareff said something but you were too far away to hear his voice.
"Mr. Kujo your Italian is surprisingly good for being raised in Japan."
You had to jog to catch up with him and Jotaro nodded while opening his notebook.
"Yes, Rohan, another stand user, helped with it."
He didn't look away from his notebook and a few people came out of their offices to look at Jotaro. When I say people I mean admirers. Females and males.
"Cool, cool."
You nodded your head and he pressed the elevator down button and you both waited.
"Tell me about your stand."
He didn't appear to be interested but questioned you anyway and the elevator doors opened. A few people walked in and you slipped through them while Jotaro just walked forward and pushed them out of his way.
"Ah well, you can see the resemblance to the Black Dragonfish. Its drool and spit is a powerful acid and you've seen its teeth and nails. It can punch and scratch people and things and is really fast and stronger underwater. That's about it."
Jotaro pressed the lobby button and you took out your notebook and a pencil since Jotaro had those supplies.
"What changes have you noticed since being pierced by the arrow for the second time?"
You watched the numbers on the top of the elevator doorway go down as you got closer to the lobby.
"Well Ocean Man has been able to say more words recently, it's limited to my name and 'stay under' which is like a stand call like Narancia's 'go flying' but it's been able to say it clearer and-"
"You named your stand Ocean Man?"
You looked at him and nodded, he was looking at you with a quirked eyebrow.
"Yeah it's dorky but it was the first thing I thought of and it's one of my favorite songs."
The door opened and Jotaro walked out without hesitation, you had to jog to catch up to him again and you walked towards the entrance.
Jotaro let out an amused exhale and lowered his hat with a small smile.
"It's one of my favorites too."
Your lips parted in a smile while you both walked down the street and towards the aquarium.
"Besides that Ocean Man dragged me under the water yesterday and I was able to breathe underwater. Then when I looked at my hands they were webbed and I had gills on the sides of my neck. It was a really interesting and strange experience."
Jotaro nodded and found it interesting. A power that could mutate the user like how Prosciutto was able to turn himself old you were able to change your body to adapt to the water.
"When you grow older you'll look back and it won't be strange at all compared to the new things in life you've experienced. I learned that throughout my life, you will too."
He glanced at you again and you made it to the aquarium. You nodded and he opened the door, once again he didn't hold it open for you and you slipped in before the door closed and did it with the next set of doors.
"I don't doubt it. Not with the people that surround me."
He started walking and you followed him, you hadn't been to the aquarium so you didn't know the layout, unlike the layout of the aquarium in Naples that you had memorized.
"Yes, having a strong group of friends can lead you to adventures and situations you can never predict."
You grinned and you both stopped in front of the stingray pool.
"Yeah, I can't wait to see what situations they'll drag me into, and get me out of."
You smiled and opened your notebook, prepared to take notes and Jotaro had a faint smile. You looked at the stingrays moving around in the water.
"They've all changed me a lot in this... long string of bizarre and unusual events."
You had to pause to figure out the right way to describe the last eight days and Jotaro tilted his hat down.
"Like a journey?"
You hummed and nodded. Jotaro's face was hidden and he was smiling to himself.
"There's a word for that. Metanoia."
You looked up at him and he glanced at you.
"Look up the definition on your free time. Like you said, you're here for you study trip."
Your smile widened and shifted to a grin. You nodded your head.
"I will."

Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo are important cultural works that ignited the Philippine Revolution against Spain. They are novels that exposed to the populace the abuses and the injustices of their Spanish colonial rulers, the hypocrisy of their priests, and inherent cruelty of their class structure over the powerless masses. Unfortunately, they rose up in the middle of the Spanish-American War, one which saw Spain lose most of their overseas colonies and decisively end as a World Power. The war ended in the 1898 Treaty of Paris, in which Spain also sold the Philippines to the USA for the sum of twenty million dollars. The revolutionary government was then crushed by the overwhelming military might of the United States and the Philippines turned into a territory. While the Philippines stands as the USA's greatest successes in nation-building, their early occupation left almost one-fifth of the population dead from combat and disease. Jose Rizal was executed by the Spanish long before knowing what might happen to his country. The world presented within The Noli and the El Fili is therefore stuck frozen in time, forever caught in that moment before a Revolution. Now let's see what happens to this nation if we give it the Light Novel treatment and jam the entirety of the Internet into their protagonist's skull and watch him try to fix things with his unfortunate tendency to sound like a supervillain. Updates Mondays and Fridays. Note: The Noli and El Fili have been public domain since 1946. This is completely fair game.
