《The Reject (A Thorin Oakenshield Fanfic)》7

I just stood there, not sure what to say.
Finally, twenty minutes later, he broke the silence.
"Please, I'll ask again, be my queen."
I could hear the desprate, pleading tone of his voice, and I felt guilty.
"I'm very sorry Thorin. I can't."
He left, not angrily, just emotionless.
I was going through my father's things, and I found a very long letter, addressed to me, from my father saying, "Read this when the need for me is the greatest(knowing you, you will refuse to marry if I am dead.)"
I carried the letter back to my room, and opened it to read.
My dearest Flair,
If you are reading this, I most likely died at war, in the hands of Azog the Defiler, just as it was predicted by the Lady Galadriel.
She said that if, and only if, I died while you were young, you would refuse to marry anyone.
This does not surprise me.
Your mother has always hated your liking for weapons. She thought that since you are part High Elf, granddaughter of the Lord Elrond, you should act more ladylike.
I never belived this, because you have always been strong willed and a fast learner.
I remember the day you were born clearly. I had just gotten back from a war, and your mother was estatic, because she couldn't wait to have her first child. She was so happy for a little girl. She couldn't wait till she could dress you up, and do your hair.
The moment you were old enough though, you refused. You were always attached to me when I was home.
Your mother was distraught.
But you never disobeyed a word we said. No matter how headstrong you acted otherwise, you always listened.
To the point of the letter.

I know you will refuse anything that any other girl would want their father there for. Don't, please.
Don't make me the reason you won't find happiness.
From the time you were born, there has been an arranged marriage planned for you. It was not my doing. Your mother arranged for you to be married to Prince Legolas, son of Thranduil of Mirkwood.
I had no wish for this, but Thranduil was estatic.
I tried to cancel the marriage. Eventually, when you were one and a half, I managed to convince them to cancel it.
King Thror was telling me during the first war I went to after you were born, that Prince Thorin had seen a girl he was intrested in, and he was only three and a half.
This girl was described to me as very small, with bright green, shining eyes. She also spent a lot of her time in the woods by the river, and she would always practice with a dagger and hide it when a woman called for her every day. She had silky black hair, and she never, ever, dressed up, whether she was in town, or in the woods.
He wasn't exactly following her, he was just observing her. He learned the pattern of her schedule quickly.
Every day, he would come from his hiding spot, trying to be brave enough to talk to her. Every day, he couldn't do it.
He had seen the girl with her father, and the father scared him badly, because one of the boys around town had purposely shoved her right next to the weapons, and she was almost skewered on a sword.
She had run to her father in tears. Her father yelled at the boy, because at 16, he should know better than to shove little kids.

This scared Prince Thorin badly.
You may be wondering, What does this have to do with me?
Well, the girl was you. You may not remember the sword event, but I do. Vividly.
It was your best friend Shad, and he was only joking around. He used to babysit you when your mother and I had somewhere to go.
I didn't know the girl was you until your second birthday, when you were attacked by orcs, and Prince Thorin saved you.
Why else would he have been so close at the time?
Why else would he have spoken to me as if he was terrified?
My daughter, Lady Galadriel predicted that Prince Thorin would never lose this interest in you.
She also had visions about Prince Thorin and how he would treat you. She said something about him hitting you, but only because he wasn't in his right mind.
She mentioned that after Erebor was reclaimed, he would ask you over and over to be his queen.
You will deny it everytime.
Also, from your elvish side, you have powers. Even though your mother and I are dead, you can still talk to us, in your mind.
We will always be with you, you just have to call on us.
Love,
Your Father
I wasn't sure how to react.
My mother arranged a marrige for me with Legolas?
How did Galadriel know I would refuse marrige, and that Thorin's feelings for me would last?
Thorin watched me when we were little?
Oh my gosh, this is confusing.
How do I activate this power where I can talk to my parents?
You just need to think about talking to us.
Daddy! Galadriel was right, I have refused Thorin's proposal multiple times, most of which were the day Smaug came.
Thorin loves you, and I knew that when we went. King Thror only summoned you that day so Thorin could have a shot at talking to you, and Thorin, to this day, doesn't know this.
Oh. He never said anything about it, so he must not know.
Also, King Thror and Thrain told him to hunt you down and marry you when you disappeared.
How so?
All your questions have been about him.
Ok daddy.
I headed straight for Erebor.
"Flair, what brings you here?" Thorin asked.
"Where's the box that your arrow came in?"
"Why?"
"There is a letter from my dad to you in one of the crevices."
"How do you know?"
"He wrote a really long letter to me that I've been reading since you left, and it mentioned it. I'm not sure what it says though."
He left the room, and came back with the box.
He pulled the letter out and began to read it.

Travelers [DROPPED]
DROPPED. The story focuses less on dungeon building than on the why of dungeons and how they fit into the universal order. While I am working from a grand plot, the writing is going slice of life style because I need to do that to work out how things progress into that grand plot. The original story seed idea / synopsis is below. The Grand Tapestry protects Rhofhir from Primal Chaos by imposing Order via patterns. However, the patterns grow stiff, stagnant, and so the Tapestry is nearing a time of Unraveling. Evidence of past civilizations wiped out during previous Unravelings foreshadow the apocalyptic catastrophe looming over the world. The mages of the Arcane Asylum reach out across dimensions, searching for some way to prevent, or at least stall, the coming Unraveling. Among the many voices they find is a gifted graduate student researching machine-assisted telepathy -- and his gaming group. Lena never expected that the chance to play DnD with telepathy would result in her becoming an actual Dungeon Master, nor that her friends could become the bosses of her dungeon. This is, in many ways, her dream come true, but there's a catch: What happened to Brad, the creator of that telepathy machine?
