The first lesson of the year was starting and I was already running late, I quickly looked down once more to my timetable to see where I was supposed to be, Transfiguration. Shit! McGonagall was not going to be happy. I picked up my pace and held the strap of my bag tightly to my shoulder to stop it from slipping.
Just as I reached the door I almost collided with a fellow student.
"Wooaaahhh sorry! I didn't see- oh Harry! Hi!"
"Ivy! It's so good to- wait let's talk afterwards we best get inside before McGonagall kills us" Harry laughed and I joined in. I watched him reach for the door and slowly creep it open.
"Ah Potter, Drayheart it's so nice of you to finally join us. Please in your own time." McGonagall's face was screwed up with anger. Oh god. Me and Harry went our our separate ways to fill up the remaining seats in the classroom. " before you get yourselves too comfortable, detention for both of you this evening" I sighed as quietly as I could as I knew if McGonagall heard me she would only make the punishment longer.
I took a quick scan round the room to see who was here. The first person I landed on was Pansy, least I had two friends in this class. The next Blaise as I locked eyes with him he gave me a small wink before turning back to the front of the class, I cringed in my seat pulling my face up with disgust. Before my eyes could travel too far away I noticed the back of his head. Why oh why did he have to be in this class, the first class of the day and here he is.
I suddenly realised I hadn't even checked who I was going to be sat next to you for the full year and when I turned to my side her eyes were already on me it was Luna.
"Hi Ivy, spectacular day isn't it?"
"Oh hi Luna and yes I suppose it is I haven't really noticed if I'm honest" I looked down to see something hanging around her neck some sort of ribbon with an odd shape attached to it. I noticed her looking at me, obviously realising I was staring at her necklace. She rubbed her fingers around it.

"It's to keep the nargles away, terrible little things forever taking my belongings" I hoped that the confusion in my brain wasn't matching on my face.
"A what? What's a nargle?"
"Oh I won't say too much they might be listening." She turned back round to look at the front. What an odd girl, I knew she was harmless but she definitely was odd.
"If everyone could turn to page 128 we will begin." I tried to concentrate but I couldn't, something felt different this year. It didn't feel like normal Hogwarts. I couldn't put my finger on what it was but considering it was the first day back no one seemed to be...excited. The teachers didn't look happy..more wary than anything.
Half way through the class I heard very loud whispering turning into shouting. When I looked up I could see anger spread right across Harry's face, I followed his eye line to see who it was and of course it was on Draco. Now what?!
"Boys! What on Earth do you think is so important to be talking over me in my own class?" Once again the fustration covered McGonagall's face. Least I wasn't on the receiving end this time.
"Nothing Professor, I was just telling Potter to stop lying. It's not a good look on him." I watched Draco shoot a smirk over to Harry. Harry's fists were screwed up so tight I was surprised his nails hadn't come through his palms. I watched as Harry began to open his mouth but before he could McGonagall shut him down.
"That is quite enough. Both of you detention." Harry went to reach up.
"But Prof-."
"Would you like me to give you a third Mr. Potter?" I watched Harry defeated fall back down into his seat. Then my brain put 2+2 together, I would be spending tonight's detention with Draco and Harry. Great.
The day carried on with nothing of much significance until we reached the Defence against the Dark Arts class, it was being taught by a new teacher, Professor Umbridge.

I'd already watched her fry a paper bird until it sank its way down to a desk. I'm guessing she wasn't a very happy lady which you would never of guessed from looking at her, the woman looked like a bubblegum machine had been sick on her. Bright pink, tight curled hair and and oddly terrifying smile from her mouse like face.
"Ordinary Wizarding Levels, O, W, L's more commonly known as OWL's. Study hard and you will be rewarded, fail to do so and the consequences may be...severe." With that she waved her wand and the text books began landing in front on us. "Your previous instruction on this subject has been disturbingly..uneven. But you will be pleased to know from now on you will be following a carefully structured, ministry approved course of defence of magic." She stopped talking and looked over to her left. "Yes"
I spun my head to the side to see Hermoine's hand coming back down from being raised. "There's nothing in here about using defensive spells." How was she so fast I took a quick look down to the book 'Dark Arts Defence, Basics for Beginners' hmm this is weird.
"Using spells?" Umbridge let out a very high pitch squeak/giggle that I'm sure dogs could hear for miles around. "Well I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom." Her smile was wide but the patronisation was very clear. She walked a few steps forward to be closer to Hermoine.
"We're not going to use magic?" This time it was Ron's voice.
"You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure risk free way" her voice was so irritating. How are we at Hogwarts and we aren't going to be using magic in Defence against the Dark Arts? What if we ever needed to use it if we were in danger!
"What use is that if we're going to be attacked it won't be risk free" now Harry chimed in, he was right though. What was she on about, before Harry had even finished the end of his last word Umbridge was already at the defence.
"Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class" what a bitch. "It is the view of the ministry, that a theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examinations, which after all is what school is all about"
"And how's theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there" I could hear Harry's voice changing, he was getting angry.
"There is nothing out there dear, who do you imagine would want to attack children like yourself" her smile was even beginning to anger me, she was so smug with herself.
"Oh I don't know maybe....Lord Voldermort?" Everyone's eyes dropped to their desk when he said the name. Oh Harry, you shouldn't of said that. I had tried my best not to think about that, the best I could. I knew Harry was sure he was back and what he'd seen and I really did want to believe him but how? How could he be back, he was gone? I caught the end of Umbridges speech explaining that that in fact wasn't true that...Voldermort being back was a lie. Her and Harry battled it out for the next minute until finally she snapped. Detention.
This really wasn't Harry's day, 3 detentions in one day! Well he was going to be in a lovely mood this evening.
Then I heard the mention of Cedric's name. My heart sank hearing it, I could still picture that moment so vividly when Harry lay on top of his body as if shielding him but it was too late...he was gone. Umbridge snapped once more and then the argument was done, she had won.

Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent
