《Toxic》Just Dance

-From your POV-
I was still in the kitchen, leaning on the counter with my phone in my hand just mindlessly scrolling through it. I heard footsteps coming from the end of the kitchen so I looked up from my phone and saw Joker adjusting his outfit. He had traded out his muscle shirt for a purple suit and some diamond studs to go along with his rings. "Going somewhere?" I ask. He rolls his eyes and turns to me.
"Club night." he says.
"And I wasn't invited to the tea party?!" I say as I pretend to be offended. He just scoffed before smiling his normal Joker grin.
"I'm sure you'll find a way to amuse yourself." he says before turning to leave out of the door. I listened as the Lambo engine outside roared to life and then became distant. I was getting pissed off that I had to stay in this house constantly. I was bored. I came here involuntarily and now wasn't being allowed outside. Sounds a lot like a hostage to me. And quite frankly, I would never be anyone's hostage.
I pushed myself off the edge of the counter and started making my way to my room. "I'm going to entertain myself alright." I say as I push the door to my room open. I start combing through the closet and decide on this emerald mini dress. When I say this dress was bedazzled to hell, it was literally dripping jewels. Not in a tacky way like most rhinestone dresses though, in a I'm-richer-and-prettier-than-you type of way, so of course I snatched it up. It had straps meaning that the head of my dragon tattoo would be visible, but so be it. I didn't let many people ever see that tattoo because of the story behind it, but to hell with it. I'm Y/n bitch, I do what I want. I pick out a matching pair of emerald red-bottoms and some sheer black stockings and get dressed. Now in heels and a dress, I walk into the bathroom and decide what to do with my hair. I had put it into a ponytail after I got out of the shower and it was still wet. I took it down and it fell to my shoulders. It didn't look terrible so I just pulled out some spray, sprayed it, and shrugged. Good enough. I walked out of my room and roamed down the halls to the music room, the sound of my heels clicking bouncing off every wall in the silent hallway.

I leaned into the doorway of the room to see Scott, having his drink and joint. His face became red when he saw me. "Can I get a ride?" I ask smoothly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had convinced Scott to give me his car keys and the address of the club Joker would be at. At first, I was fine with Scott driving me, but then I realized Joker being the psychotic idiot he is would probably kill him for it. And although things between us were awkward, Scott could be useful if I kept him around. I followed directions from my phone and pulled up to the club entrance. I tucked my favorite mini-dagger into the thigh-band of my stockings. It was flipped down so it wouldn't cut me while it was there. I stepped out of the car, locking it behind me and walked straight up to the bouncer, cutting the line. "Miss you gotta wait-" he started. I looked at him as I put my hand up.
"I'm J's business associate." I say. The bouncer adjusts his sunglasses.
"Yeah, sure, J doesn't do business with women. Plus, wrong door for business." he says sternly. I walk up to him, placing only a few inches between our faces.
"Well," I whisper. "... when you're a Zsazs, rules are seldom followed." I say calmly as I place the car keys into his hand so I don't lose them. I pull my face back and see him starting to slightly panic. Sometimes having a notorious assassin for a father was useful. Who am I kidding?? Sometimes? All of the time, it was useful.
I smirked to myself as he quickly let me in. There were red and black lights lighting the place up with loud music blaring and a lot of people standing around. He had multiple raised platforms with different things like poles or giant chains coming from the ceiling, for dancers I'm assuming. I quickly look around and see one that's open and start smiling. Idea. I push my way through to it and use my arms to push my self up onto the platform. For whatever reason, Just Dance by Lady Gaga was playing. You'd think a psychotic clown mobster would play something a bit more sinister in his night club, but then again, what psychotic clown mobster would own a night club? I quickly and smoothly find a groove with the music and start dancing, blending in with the movements of dancers on the other platforms. Two songs in, I notice that I've acquired attention from quite a few gentlemen. They were holding out bills and cards with their numbers written on it for me to take and at first, I wasn't going to, but then I thought 'What the hell' and started taking them. Men were dumb enough to give me money, who am I to deny them?

As I collected around 30 different bills, I looked up and locked eyes with someone who I've definitely met before. I could pick those blue-gray soul-searchers out from a lineup: Joker. He's glaring at me in anger, which is usually my thing, so I take his thing up and smile at him widely. I look around him and notice the table of men he's sitting with are all in suits as well, eyes on me. They're looking in awe as they smile and point with their fingers as they whisper to each other. I smoothly turn around, showing them the dragon tattoo. I flip my hair over my shoulder, so I am now looking at them over my shoulder and I wink and give them a smile. God men are so stupid. Sometimes being a sociopath was fun; I could morph into whatever personality was most fitting and beneficial to me at that time. In my case, being a flirtatious dancer was not only pissing off Joker, but getting a rise out of his table, and that's what I wanted. Attention.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5
