Over the years, Brett Yang was sure of what he feels towards Eddy Chen. Brett finally has Eddy, but Eddy has doubts and anxiety. This is a flashback of how they both fell in love over the years in order to reassure the ever so lovely Eddy Chen.

Third Person POV

I. At maths tutorial, after meeting each other.

Brett Yang never really liked anyone in a romantic way. Sure, he liked people but only platonically. It's not like he was looking for someone at the moment. He was young and all he cared about was his passion. Violin playing and music in general.

Little did he know that it would all change when an Asian boy sat next to him in maths tutorial.

Brett was going on about his day, not really wanting to be here. He knows he doesn't have a choice, though.

He looks around and sees an empty seat next to the Asian boy who had a violin case. He smiled as he approached the chair. The boy gave a shy smile and Brett could feel himself being drawn in closer to the boy.

"Hi, I'm Brett." He said as he sat down.

"Hi, I'm Eddy." The boy said as he moved his violin case.

"How long have you been playing?" Brett asked, gesturing to the instrument.

"About half of my life now." Eddy said.

"Me too." Brett beamed.

They kept quiet as the tutor started her lesson. They did the assigned work upon themselves. Both just couldn't wait to go home and practice. Immediately, after the lesson was over, they walked out of the room side by side.

"Bye, Brett! I'll see you next week." Eddy waved as he approached his mother's car.

"Bye, Eddy!" Brett waved back.

Suddenly, Brett felt his chest constrict as Eddy's car drove off. He doesn't really mind it, because it's normal to feel like that after meeting a new friend. He sighed and clutched his chest.

Brett couldn't wait to meet Eddy again.

They did meet the next day in youth orchestra. Brett can't help but think that someone out there, a god or a deity or any spirit, is listening to him and his newfound longing.

II. At the end of high school, Brett will go to the conservatory while Eddy still has a year left for high school.

Brett Yang felt bad knowing that he'll leave his best friend.

He wishes that he didn't leave too early. He still wanted to be with the younger boy. Brett had already come to terms with the fact that there was a crush blossoming towards his best friend. He had accepted that it might never be returned.

He also decided not to tell Eddy.

Not like Eddy was in his league, anyway. He was far from that, especially the fact that Eddy has dated multiple times. Every single one of them are beautiful, regardless of their gender or sexuality. It's quite sad because Eddy sees him like a brother. Nothing more, nothing less.

So, they were stuck there, the last day of their summer vacation. Of course they had to spend time together, Brett will be busier in the conservatory even if he isn't moving away from Eddy. Eddy will also be busy due to applying for colleges. Brett is just silently wishing that his best friend will enter the same conservatory as him and doesn't choose to become a doctor.

They were at Brett's room, Eddy listening to Brett play while lying down.

"Do you think that I'll be good enough for music uni?" Eddy asked as he closed his eyes, listening to Brett playing.

"I should be the one asking you that. You're so talented. You'll be more than enough." Brett remarked as he stopped playing for a while.

"Well, you're better than enough, Brett. Always remember that if you weren't good enough, you wouldn't be going to music uni tomorrow." Eddy said as Brett put the violin back to his case.

"Thanks, Eddy. I'll miss you even if we're not gonna be apart." Brett said as he laughed a little.

"I'll miss you, too. We'll both be too busy." Eddy said with a sigh.

"At least we're still seeing each other."

"Yeah."

Brett sat on the bed as Eddy still lied down. He felt Eddy's hand on his and he didn't dare to look. He thinks the tears would immediately drip down. He squeezed Eddy's hand a bit and felt his heart racing.

Why does it already feel lonely?

Brett thought as he allowed himself to comfort Eddy. His chest constricts as he closed his eyes. It wasn't going to be easy and Brett knew that. He just hopes that the younger boy will he alright.

III. At the conservatory, when Brett was playing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and Eddy was the concertmaster.

Brett Yang has never felt more nervous his entire life. Everyone was there, his parents and his younger sibling, Eddy's parents and Belle, and everyone else's family. He was almost shaking as soon as he got on stage. He looked over where Eddy was sitting and the younger just smiled at him. Brett was worried, but not as much now.

He could feel his heart pound as he walks on stage. The orchestra starts with the tutti and Brett looks at Eddy. Almost as if he was comfort on sight.

Brett started the solo and everything fell into place. Brett didn't know how but having Eddy there was enough to make him feel like he didn't mess up. Turns out the aftermath of adrenaline and nerves are warmer than he had expected.

Eddy gave Brett a kind of hug that was warm, squeezing and close. The type where you'd feel the other person's breath on your neck. The type to send a shiver down your spine. The type to make you feel love.

That was enough to keep him going for a lifetime.

IV. The end of conservatory, the start of their YouTube channel.

Both didn't want to follow what their other colleagues did. It just seemed stagnant for both. Of course, both had jobs at the orchestra but they felt as though they needed to do something more revolutionary. Something that will introduce people to classical music and reconstruct the idea that it's only for old people.

They saw how YouTube was popular so they decided to make a few videos. All those nights, working hard and sleeplessness, they felt as if it was going to pay off.

It's one of those sleepless nights, both of them exhausted physically but their brains are not. They were sleeping in one bed, and it was normal for them. Well, for Eddy at least. Brett always freaked out by the fact that Eddy was so close and could possibly feel his pounding heart. Tonight changed that though.

Eddy mindlessly wrapped his arms around Brett's waist and pulled him closer. They slept together in one bed, but never this close. Brett felt his heart rate speed up and he sighed. Covering up the fact that he was trying to calm his heart down.

Eddy Chen didn't speak but he felt it, too. Except his heart wasn't pounding or fast. Eddy just felt calm. Almost as if he didn't have any problems or tiredness. He was feeling fine, like nothing could go wrong with Brett this close. He ignored Brett's nervousness and closed his eyes, breathing the older's scent in.

Before falling asleep, that was the moment Eddy Chen realized that he might never be able to function without Brett Yang. The thought of the older being close is enough to drown him in a sense of tranquility.

Brett didn't sleep a wink that night, purely questioning the fact that Eddy was holding him close as if he'd never let go. He was scared that Eddy will freak out the morning after.

IV. When they reached their goal, the world tour was happening soon.

They can't believe they did it.

They were going on a world tour. They were finally going to share their love for classical music to everybody else. Both couldn't be happier.

Eddy didn't know what came over him the moment Brett said "I love you, Eddy." but he was sure something inside him sparked an interest. An interest for Brett, that was he was sure of. He just didn't know why or how.

Of course, Brett always knew that he loved Eddy. The younger just didn't know. At least that's what he thought. Somewhere out there, in some other lifetime or universe, Brett has already professed his love for the younger and kissed him until his lips are bruised. He already considered it, thought about it a millions of times, imagined it but somehow he couldn't tell Eddy. He just can't seem to get it right out of his chest and every time he tries to do so, he fails.

He just shows Eddy his love instead of saying it. Maybe the younger one will never know but Brett hopes that Eddy felt it, at least once in this lifetime. The other lifetimes or alternate universes doesn't matter. Brett knows he'll love Eddy in every single one of them.

V. At the middle of their YouTube career, when Eddy has moved on from his ex-girlfriend.

Moving on wasn't easy. Brett knew that as he had tried to move on from Eddy countless of times now. He knows it's pathetic as he and Eddy never were more than anything that best friends. So, he could imagine what Eddy felt like when his girlfriend of five years broke up with him.

Eddy wasn't as emotional as he seems, but once it sinks in to him, he just let's everything all at once. He's not one to talk about how he feels or what he feels because he's not good with words. He already let it all out to Brett. Sure, he missed her from time to time, but he's glad that she was happy. He knows he will be, too.

At first, he was quite bitter about it. He eventually thought about how she felt. That's when it hit Eddy that it can't always be him or it can't always be her. Sometimes, it's the world's way of telling him that there's always going to be someone for him. No matter how much he was to handle, there's always a person who is willing to do so.

As he was thinking of this, the thought hit him. It was Brett. It was always him.

And that was enough to explain everything.

VI. Somewhere in the world at midnight, when Eddy Chen's tipsy mind decided that kissing Brett Yang was the most logical thing he could do at that state.

They were in their second world tour and Eddy decided that they should get drinks. Brett could handle his alcohol better than the younger could. So, it didn't come as a surprise that Eddy was leaning towards him for support to walk back on their shared hotel room. Even if they were always sharing hotel rooms or beds, Brett still can't stop his heart rate from sky-rocketing every time Eddy's skin was touching him.

He's surprised to find himself alive every time he wakes up with Eddy's arms around him. He knew that the younger wasn't used to sleeping in beds alone, especially the fact that he had lived with his ex-girlfriend for years. Eddy wants to feel the presence of a body next to him, so it wasn't new for either of them. That doesn't mean that Brett gets used to the feeling.

Eddy's next move just crossed the line for Brett's heartbeat.

Just when Brett was supposed to let Eddy lie down on the bed, Eddy pulled him in for a kiss. Brett just felt as though his soul left his body and he felt the world silence itself. Brett's rapid heart beat was pounding in his ears. He couldn't feel anything but the lips against his.

The younger slowly pulled away and lied down, and just like that, went to sleep.

Brett took a sharp intake of breath as he felt his chest constrict. He grabbed a hold of his chest, trying to stop his pounding heart. He looked at the younger boy who was now sleeping peacefully.

How can you sleep so peacefully after that, Eddy?

Brett thought with envy as he knows he will not be sleeping for a few days now. It's probably just a mistake. Eddy probably just thought that it was his ex. There's no way Eddy would think of him like that. There was nothing important or romantic about that kiss, but somehow, the fact that it was Eddy's soft lips that was pressed against his was enough to drive him insane. So, Brett smiles bitterly knowing that it will be forgotten the next morning.

VII. At the airport returning home, when Brett just couldn't handle it anymore.

Eddy was talking to a beautiful girl on the phone. Brett knew that Eddy's interests are sparked because it's been three days and they still haven't stopped talking. He knew he didn't have the right to get jealous as he was just the younger's best friend. He decides not to comment on it, or the kiss.

Of course, Brett was still thinking about it. When you've been in love with your best friend for a decade and they kissed you one drunken night, you won't forget it. Even if the other person involved doesn't mean it nor remember. He just decides to sleep it off the entire flight. It's the first time in months that he wasn't physically close to the younger.

He knows that the younger is smiling while on the phone. He sighs and closes his eyes to avoid tears to flow down his cheeks.

I've seen it all before but why does it still hurt?

Brett thought as he fell asleep. A few hours later, Eddy was waking him up as they were back to Australia. Brett called his mom to pick him up, knowing that he'll want space from the younger.

They were now dragging their luggage and violins behind them. Eddy decided to wait for Brett to be picked up before he proceeds to go to the girl he was talking to for the past few days. Brett could feel Eddy staring at him. The older one simply couldn't handle it anymore and allowed tears to flow down his face.

Eddy immediately saw this and faced the older. The older bravely looked up and started to pour out all his frustrations for the past years.

"Eddy, am I that unlovable? Am I not good enough for you? Why can't it be me instead of anyone else? I may not seem or look deserving for you but am I really that horrible? Am I that unbearable? Is everything that I've done not enough? Are you that numb to not see my love? Fuck. I know you'll never love me back and yet there's still that glimmer of hope in the back of my mind." Brett said as he sobbed.

He had his fists clenched as he looked away from the younger. Eddy was waiting for that confession to happen. He just didn't expect that it would be when they're both tired and frustrated at an airport. He expected it to be during filming or a night out with only them, or maybe even more romantic words. This was the opposite of everything the younger imagined.

"How long, Brett?" Eddy asked quietly.

"A year after we met." Brett said, still crying.

"Fuck, Brett. That's already a decade. Why have you kept it that long?" Eddy asked, feeling confused and guilty at the same time.

"It doesn't matter. I know you don't love me like that. You always saw my affections as brotherly."

"I'm sorry, Brett. I just can't love you like that." Eddy said, surprised at the words that came out of his mouth.

"I know. I just hope that this won't affect TwoSet." Brett said, trying to hide his pain.

"It won't. I'm really sorry." Eddy said.

"You don't have to apologize for something you can't control." Brett said as he composed himself and wiped his tears.

But I do.

Eddy thought as he looked at Brett. Brett's mom arrived and the older quietly put his luggage in the trunk. Eddy helped him with it and he smiled at Brett before he left.

"I'll see you in two days." Brett said, smiling back at the younger.

Eddy waved at Brett, nodding. He looked at the older's car leave. He sighed and clutched his chest. Eddy knows that he loves the older but he wants to be ready to fall for the lovely, lovely boy. It's not fair for Brett to have to share love with another.

He has to settle it with the girl first.

VIII. At Eddy's house, in the practice room when they've been together for years.

Eddy already knows what Brett felt for the past years. He knows what the older went through and how he coped with it. Somehow though, it seems like the younger forgot the moment he saw Brett with a beautiful girl his age, in his arms.

"Eddy, I can explain." Brett said as he was catching up with Eddy's pace of walking.

"How the fuck will you explain that shit, Brett? I saw you with another girl in your arms, not to mention th-" Eddy was cut off by Brett kissing him.

When he pushed the older away, the older sighed. At least Eddy was calm enough to listen to him.

"She's my cousin. She has a husband and two kids. I just missed her because I haven't seen her in so long." Brett explained as he caressed the younger's cheek.

They were quiet for a while until Eddy broke the silence.

"I feel like I'm such an idiot now. I was actually doubting you and your love for me." Eddy said as he looked down to meet the older's eyes.

"You know how long I've loved you. Now that I finally have you, I can just throw it away because of someone else. I love you and only you, Eddy Yang." Brett said as the kissed the younger again.

They were just holding each other now. When they pulled away, they touched foreheads and looked into each other. It didn't sink into Eddy what Brett's last words were.

"Wait, did you just say Eddy Yang?"
