《Vexed ♡ S. ROGERS》21. Make Me

It was the middle of the night, and once again, nightmares were the cause of Steve's insomnia. For the third time that night, he shot up out of his sleep, breathing heavily. He stared at his laps for a few moments, his mind replaying his nightmare repeatedly on a loop.
Just as Steve went to get out of bed, a soft hand was placed on his chest. Furrowing his eyebrows in confusion, he looked to his left to see Vex with a concerned frown on her face. The blue eyed woman was wearing one of his shirts -he didn't remember giving her permission to wear it but he didn't actually mind- and her hair was tousled.
"Steve are you alright?" she questioned, keeping her voice low as to not wake anyone else up. "This is the third time."
Steve placed his head down in shame, letting out a sigh as he shook his head. "Yeah, yeah I know."
Vex's eyes glowed slightly, the brunette raising an eyebrow. "I can put you to sleep if you want."
Steve spared a glance in her direction. "That offer seems like it could be taken multiple ways."
She only shrugged in response, her eyes going back to their normal ocean blue shade as she pursed her lips. Steve didn't say another word as he threw the blankets off of his body and moved to get out of bed, ignoring Vex's sound if distaste.
"Steve, come back to bed right now," she ordered firmly, her voice a harsh whisper.
The blonde male didn't listen to her, choosing instead to get up. Vex held her tongue for a moment before she growled.
"Steven Grant Rogers I will not say this again, come back to bed this instant," Vex warned, her irises turning into a familiar shade of lilac.
Steve let out a small humorless chuckle as he looked over his shoulder in her direction. "Make me."
He held in his surprise when Vex appeared right in front of him and didn't get a chance to say anything, the brunette attaching her lips to his. Almost instantly, he went to push her away but he found himself unable to. Instead, he pulled her closer and allowed himself to be pushed onto the bed. He watched in silence, and slight adoration, as Vex straddled him, hesitating for a moment before she kissed him once more. The brunette easily slipped off Steve's shirt while he took off his bottoms leaving him only in his boxers.

The super soldier seemed slightly embarrassed, almost nude in front of Vex. But, the embarrassment was quickly filled with shock as she took off her -Steve's- shirt in one swift motion, leaving her completely bare as she stared down at him. His words were caught in his throat and he felt Vex's soft lips press against his again, his hands wrapping around her small waist.
The blonde's boxers were thrown to the side and he looked up at Vex warily, receiving a smirk in reply.
"Don't worry captain, I'm not going to break you, but you might be sore in the morning," she whispered into his ear, Steve's neck heating up as her warm body pressed up against his.
Mustering up some courage, the blue eyed man flipped Vex onto her back, so that he was on top of her. The brunette had to cover her mouth to hold in the small squeal that escaped her mouth and she smacked Steve's arm, though she didn't put much into the action.
She only received a smile in return and her eyes fluttered shut as her lips met Steve's once more. The soft kisses quickly turned sloppy, and instead of lip-to-lip, Vex found her hands wrapped in Steve's golden locks as he kissed her neck affectionately; a low moan getting caught in her dry throat as she tried to keep silent. With dark eyes and a fire just below her stomach, Vex moved Steve's face so that he was facing her once more.
The man was breathless, his face red -but not with embarrassment- as he stared down at her. No words were actually said but in that moment, the two had never been any closer. In one surprisingly swift motion, their hips were aligned and Vex threw her head back, a soft gasp escaping her lips.
Her hands ran through Steve's hair again as she pulled him closer to her body, the avenger placing his face in the crook of his neck as he tried to stay focused; though it was extremely hard. His mind was racing with a million thoughts, thinking of how comfortingly warm Vex felt underneath him and how the scent of vanilla lingered in her hair. He kissed her neck -gently of course- as he kept a slow pace, slowly rocking back and forth.

Vex's eyes fluttered open for a brief moment, noticing that Steve had moved his head, and her eyes connected with crystal blue ones. Irises that were filled with so much emotion the brunette couldn't help but shudder slightly. Their faces were extremely close, lips grazing against each other as they were both filled with only love and nirvana, their own silent paradise.
Steve let a small moan escape his mouth as Vex's nails dug their way into his back, trying to keep quiet in a house full of heroes and two children. His breaths grew ragged and his pace quickened, Vex following his actions minutes later as she held onto the man for dear-life. Her eyes were shut tightly but burst open when she had exhaled largely, feeling a wave of comforting energy enter her as she released her hold on the blonde that still kept his place on top of her.
They were quiet for a while, not meeting gazes as they tried to slow their breathing down. Vex cleared her throat nervously and Steve -who had moved next to her- looked over in concern.
"Steven, I need you to promise me something," she mumbled, placing his shirt back onto her slim body with ease.
"I won't tell anyone if that's what you mean," he replied in a soft tone, his eyes that were once filled with admiration and longing now held disappointment and sadness.
"No it's not that, I..I need you to..just-promise that you won't leave me, especially when I need you. I don't care if you're there as a friend or a lover..just promise me that."
Steve went to reply almost instantly, having no problem in staying beside the beautiful brunette that sat next to him with watery blue eyes that he had gotten lost in too many times to count. He found himself unable too though and he frowned, touching his throat.
"Steve?"
The blonde looked away from the brunette, clearing his throat. He tried to speak again but let out a frustrated breath when he couldn't.
"Steve?"
"Steve!"
The captain woke up with wide eyes, shooting up so fast that he held his head and groaned. The light from the windows and open front door make him cover his face and he sighed. It took him a few minutes but he eventually moved his hands and stared into the eyes of the woman that had took something special from him,
and the same woman he would do it all over for again.
She stared at him with a frown as she placed her hand on his shoulder. "Steven are you alright?"
The blonde nodded, rubbing his face. "Yeah, I'm fi-why am I on the couch?"
Vex's frown stayed on her face as she furrowed her eyebrows. "You slept on the couch remember? You put me in your bed last night, don't you remember?"
This time, it was Steve's turn to frown. Had it all been a dream? He couldn't believe it, a feeling of grief and self-hate washing over him in an instant. How could he think that Vex had given herself to him? Him?
"We're leaving in five minutes, I wanted to wake you earlier but I figured you needed the sleep," Vex told him truthfully, looking down at the floor sheepishly. "I'm sorry."
Steve waved her off, removing the blanket from his frame and stretching. "It's fine. Don't worry about it." His words were quick, too quick, and rushed. Something Vex took notice of.
She pursed her lips but said nothing, standing up from her kneeling position so that she was at her full height. "I'll be on the quinjet waiting for you. I saved you some breakfast, it's on the table."
Steve mumbled a bitter goodbye, waving her off again, and she turned to walk away with a bag in her hand. The super soldier ran a hand through his hair, memories from his 'dream' hitting him like a stack of bricks. He still felt Vex's hands fumbling through his hair; his back still stung from her nail marks and he could only smell vanilla. Blue was all he saw and he didn't mind at all.
"Vex!"
In an instant, the brunette had turned her head, brunette locks being thrown onto her shoulder as her eyes connected with his.
"I uh-I promise."

Sexy Sect Babes
“One in a billion.” Jack kept repeating the mantra in his head. “One in a billion.” That was the number the Omni-Corps liked to cite whenever someone stepped onto one trans-mat pad and then simply… never stepped off the other. “Safer than a car,” he repeated as he slogged through the snow, his mining overalls doing at least a passable job of keeping out the cold as he brushed aside a tree branch. “Safer than a plane. Or a starship. Safest form of transport in the Star League.” He slammed his fist into a nearby tree, exo-empowered strength shattering it into little more than scattered bark and kindling. “Yeah, well I never heard of a car ride stranding some prick in another dimension!” He roared, his voice echoing through the seemingly endless forest around him. Then he kept marching. He’d seen the fire off in the distance. And given all the snow around, he sincerely doubted it was natural. Which left the unnatural. Which meant people. He hoped. Because even if the trans-mat had screwed up, he doubted it had dumped him too far off the central finite curve. The fact that the air was breathable and that he could recognize the trees around him as oak told him that much. And if the dimension he was in had trees native to Earth, chances are it would have animals too. Of which humans would hopefully be no exception. “Because I’ll be damned if I spend the rest of my days talking to goddamn squirrels.” No, if there were humans on this mudball, he was going to find them. One way or another.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
