《Soft Hawks X Reader Shorts》Along the Skyline

Hawks picked you up from home on his break by literally picking you up and taking flight from the front door step. He held you tight in his arms as he flapped wings up and up into the sky. You hid yourself from the height in Hawks' chest and he chuckled.

"What's the matter, Kid? Afraid of heights? I won't drop you, Kid, I'd never dream of it," you heard Hawks say as he held you tighter.

The wind that hit your ears made a shiver trickle down your spin and hurt a little. Hawks seemed to notice this and paused midair. You looked up at him to see him use a few feathers to carefully put his headphones on you. He smiled down on you then said, "Take a look, Kid."

You looked over your shoulder to see the mix of colors that made up the sunset before you. It was so beautiful and made you feel so warm.

"Never forget to take a break like this sometimes, okay, Kid? People forget how beautiful the world is because they're stuck working endless jobs for a living. They end up dying without the feeling of fulfillment. I don't want that to happen to either of us. We need to remind each other to take a break to look at the sky together just like this."

You look at him to see him smiling down at you and he pressed his lips on your forehead. "You caught me," he teased and held you tighter.

He continued flying and you hid into his chest once more. The cold breeze against your body didn't feel as bad as it did before. Your ears were warm from the leftover warmth of Hawks' headphones.

"Now now, Songbird. You don't want to miss the view getting to our destination, do you?" You hear Hawks say as the flapping of his wings slow down and the wind that beat against your skin started to smooth over you.

You look up at him with a questioning brow and he nods ahead of him. As he flies, you watch the scene passing by with the ethereal sunset as the background that kissed the waters far beyond. He flies carefully as if riding the rollercoaster of wind he creates. The closer he got to the ocean the more it felt like you were riding along the horizon line. You looked to your left to see the skyline of the city you were taking a break from.

Hawks slows down more and eventually lands on a small hill. He sits you on a bench with the sunset in your view and he sits across with the happiest smile you've ever seen on his face.

"The most perfect view for my Songbird," Hawks teases as props his head on his hand.

"Be even better if you weren't blocking it," you teased back.

Hawks chuckles softly then reaches for your hand with his which you take. His thumb caresses the back of your hand as he says, "I love you."

His words surprise you and you're almost speechless but you smile and squeeze his hand. You say, "I love you, too," and he smiled again.

"I know, Babybird."

You were in his arms as he flew across the sky. He raises you in his embrace so his lips are aligned with your ears. You hear him take in a breath as if preparing for what was next to come.

You didn't know what to expect but it definitely wasn't what actually happened.

He opens his mouth to squawk the words into your ears:

I can show you the world!

Shining, shimmering, splendid!

Now tell me, Songbird, now when did

You last let your heart decide?

You squirm in his hold in a sad attempt to riot against his goofy singing. If you weren't held so tightly in his arms you would be shoving your hands over his mouth to shut him up. To think, this was a pro hero on his day off.

Despite your efforts he continues to squawk his serenade to you.

I can open your eyes!

Take you wonder by wonder

Over, sideways and under

On a magic birdful ride!

He spun in the air as he sang and you managed to squeeze out enough to yell at him. "I swear Hawks if you don't stop singing I'm gonna—," you yell but were interrupted by Hawks' "wonderful" singing.

A whole new world!!!

You hug him tighter and he exhales the air you squeezed out of him. He looks down at you like you insulted his entire bloodline.

"I can drop you right now if I wanted," he threatened with an obvious white lie.

"Anything to not hear your singing," you tease to which he narrows his eyes at you.

"You're lucky I love you," he says and continues flying but in welcomed silence.

You bury yourself in his neck and whisper back, "I love you too."
