Chapter Eighteen:

"Better lock it in your pocket, taking this one to the grave."

The next few days on the ship, were long, and tedious. I stood up, and moved around my small cabin, it was our third morning, and I was feeling sick to my stomach from the waves that hit the ship. I slipped my light blue dress over my undergarments, reaching behind me tying it closed. Today was the day we were going to speak about our plan of attack, for less of a better word. I pulled my hair up into a bun, and splashed my face with water.

"Camille?" The voice came from the other side of the door, "We are about to eat, would you care to join us this morning?" It was Lucas, it was true, I had not eaten with them, only coming from my cabin or upper deck to speak of business.

"Yes, I will." I grabbed my journal shoving it back inside my drawer, before I exited my room. They had the table set up, with what looked like oatmeal, toast, and tea.

"It's not much, but we are on a ship." Sebastian joked, smiling at me.

"It looks good to me." I set at the table, and looked at the two boys that were on either side of me. I smiled, and began to eat slowly.

"So for this plan, I figured one of us speak, one present the proposal, the other discuss the goods?" Lucas looked up at us, and I just nodded. "I figured, Camille would speak, Sebastian do the proposal, and I will show them the goods."

"Sounds alright with me, what about you Camille?" Sebastian was trying to make me speak.

"Yes, it is fine with me." I took another spoonful, and nodded my head as they continuned to speak. Ever since the fight between them, I felt more awkward between them, then accepted. Lucas looked uneasy at me.

"Camille would you care to join me, on the upper deck?" Lucas smiled and stood from the table, eyeing Sebastian.

"I need some fresh air, to much time down here, and I may get sick." I stood up, wipping my mouth one more time, before climbing the ladder and up on to the deck. The sun hit my skin, and the warmth felt good.

"I am glad you agreed to join me out there, it's been a long time since we have had a few moments alone." I nodded, leaning my body against the head of the ship. "I just wanted to talk to you, I feel like you don't want to spend time near or around me, and partners cannot act this way." He leaned against the railing as well.

"It's nothing like that, Lucas, I am just looking at a big picture, I need to prove myself in this trading company, and why mettle with matters of the heart, when you are spoken for." I slouched my body lower, looking into the water.

"May we open a small table, to speak of the truth." I nodded, raising an eyebrow at him, "Serena is a wonderful young woman, it started as just a marriage to save you, or what my parents believed to save you, which I haven't found evidence of how it would since Serena has showed no signs of danger. Yes, I love you, you were and always will be my childhood romance, but Serena, she is to be my wife. I am looking for a friend again, Camille."

I stood up straight, "I appreciate your honesty, Lucas, but we will never see eye to eye about Serena, and who she really is. Because I have experienced much different sides of her. And I am glad to finally see that your feelings for her have grown and are true." I smiled, and moved myself away from the railing.

"What are you talking about Camille?"

"Serena has threatened me." I wasn't about to mention the fact she was having an affair with Henry Calston.

"How?" He crossed his arms, and I knew he didn't believe me.

"She said to stay away from you, that it could be related to this, but nothing more, or she was going to make sure I was no longer in the picture." I watched his entire body change from relaxed to stiff.

"You are lying, Camille." I gasped, moving my body two steps backwards.

"I do not lie, Lucas, I am telling you the truth, whether you believe me or not, is your own matter. I am not going to sit here and be called a liar though." I turned on my heel, trying to walk away and he caught me by the arm.

"You're not going anywhere till you explain to me what's going on."

"Let go of me, Lucas." I tugged my arm, and his grip grew slightly tighter.

"No." His face was filled with a mixture of hurt and frustration.

"You will let her go." I looked behind Luca's shoulder, and there stood Sebastian with his hand over a small knife that was strapped to his pants.

"Please, for once stay out of people's buisnesses that doesn't belong to you." Lucas spun, letting go of my arm.

"Camille, go downstairs." I nodded, retreating to the cabins, without listening to those two fight again. I slid into Sebastian's room closing the door behind me. It was the last place they would search for me, but also I was curious of who this man was. I sat myself down on his bed, and looked round the room. He had a pile of papers that I had given him, beside that he had another stack of papers and I reached toward it, but the door flew open. "What are you doing?" Sebastian was leaning against the doorway, crossing his arms.

"Waiting for you." I smiled, and stood up, "Thank you again, for saving me."

"Lucas just is frustrated, we talked it out." He looked behind me at the stack of papers, "You are wondering who I am, and thought this would be the best place to figure it out, didn't you?"

I felt my face go red, and I turned away from him. "Yes..."

"I might as well tell you, since it's going to come out..." He sat down on the bed, patting to the spot beside him. "Where to begin." He looked at me, and I felt how uneasy he was, trying to search for the words. "My father, makes it his life to know others, he can break into any house, and leave without any trace. He makes it his life to be able to crack codes, letters, and people."

"Like a mercenary?"

"No... Nothing like that. More of a theif. He's never killed for no reason. He has killed. But that's another story, he is a person who is hired, like a decective, and he's trained me to do the same. He is one who wishes for me, to know his art, so I may continue. That's why he gave me this paticular one, figuring someone of my age, was easier to get invovled with this case." He looked at me, "I am trained to kill, Camille, trained to kill, hunt, find out every small detail about someone." He touched my hand, "Like you," I gulped. "I know that you would rather read, then do cross-stich. You wrinkle your nose at the smell of fish oil, you cannot dance, even if someone leads." I blushed.

"Why did you tell me this?"

"Because, of anyone I know, someone deserves to know the truth of who I am, and what I do."

"Have you killed?" I looked at him, and fixed my dress.

"Yes." He looked down, "It wasn't easy, and killing never should be. But I had to, for the job, and safety of many people."

"Who?" I asked him, not removing my hand from.

"Let's keep some secrets. But back to my explanation. You understand my job, will remain to unravel London's High Society, and that's going to be taking down people you trust."

"I know, but can we focus and finding out who murdered my father, and why I am next."

"Of course, Camille." He squeezed my hand, and let it go. "But remember, this is all a secret, and I would rather no one knew I was here to just be a snitch in the end." I nodded, and stood up.

"I understand, and I will not say a word to anyone, I know how it is to have your personal life opened up to the society, without any way to control it."

He stood up, looking down at me, "forgive me." I raised and eyebrow, as he kissed my lips one time soft and slowyly, sending the shivers down my spine, "I should not do this, because you are part of the case I need to work on, and I am not to be close, incase of incidents, and you make that very hard."

I jumped back, "Incidents?"

"Camille... there could always be a case, where I am not there, and you could be attacked."

"Then train me."

"Camille....I don't thin-" As he went to finish his sentence I heard the sound of a canon and Lucas pushing the door open with force.

"We are under attack! And it's the Calston's symbol. Sebastian, explain why they're here, and how they said you would know." Lucas was out of breathe, and was holding a dagger toward Sebastian, and before I could say a word, the clinking of metal came from the upper deck, and a deep voice followed.

"Now... who wants to play a game of pirates..."
