《PETRICHOR ✰LRH》PROLOGUE

"And the rain, it came too soon
I will wait for you to love me again
Nothing like the rain, nothing like the rain
When you're in outer space, when you're in outer space"
Luke felt a sort of ambivalence about the rain- specifically the type that was just barely there. Not heavy enough to soak your clothes but present enough so you knew it was there. You wouldn't be able to hear the delicate drops patter against your window but you would feel its dampness as it plasters your hair to your skin.
It was raining when he met her.
It was close to a drizzle really, which he used to find quite annoying. Luke used to hate it when it drizzled for it wasn't enough to permit him to close up the bookstore and it discouraged customers to visit the shop. Luke learned to love the drizzling rain because of her.
It was pouring when she left.
Although, it was many years after they'd met and he'd long since endured the insufferable curse of loving her in silence. When she left him standing in that pouring rain, her eyelashes damp with the likes of his mistakes he found himself, for the first time in his life, wishing that it hadn't been raining so hard.
He wished even more that things could be as simple as finding how hard it was raining annoying. Luke wanted nothing more in that moment than to be eighteen years old again with his nose stuck in a poetry book, watching her from afar.
Because to everyone around them, there was nothing quite as tragically paradoxical as the helpless collision of a brusque man who longed for love, yet never had experienced such a feeling and a credulous girl who couldn't bring herself to allow anyone to love her

She was meant to be loved, it was almost too easy to love a girl like her, though she resented the feeling.
And well he looked to be quite the opposite of capable of love with his rough edges and harsh words yet he felt emotions deeper than anyone
In the end, both of them were who they thought they wanted to be, and consequently, they'd never again feel like who they used to be.

The Good Crash: An Oral History of the Post-Scarcity Collapse
"Don't we all feel, deep down, that we deserve the apocalypse?" APRIL, 2028—Global capitalism has collapsed. America has sealed itself off from the outside world, and inside its borders, a revolution rages. All it took was one incredible little machine. That machine turned into two, then four, then eight... like a virus, the replicators spread. As a work of oral history, The Good Crash features over 50 interviews with key witnesses to the events of 2027. The text is rendered in the words used by the interviewees themselves, with light editing for clarity and concision. As such, the book contains language and themes that are not appropriate for children.By capturing the voices to the people at the very root of the revolution, journalist and historian R. Vondersnitch has traced the origins and aftermath of the replicators' rapid spread. Crucially, the book also includes perspectives and testimony from those who attempted to stop the spread of the reps. "Some of these are heroes, too, in their own ways," the author writes in the book's introductory note.
