"There we go!" Peter held James high as he put the star on top of the tree.

It was five in the evening when it was finally decided that we were to decorate the tree and the house. I sat on the couch clueless because I rarely decorated the tree, Gabe our butler did it every Christmas.

The tree decorations were scattered around the room, cookies and hot chocolate carefully arranged in the corner of the room and Christmas carols played back to back in the background. Every single person in this room was in the spirit and then there is me who felt nothing.

I won't say I felt nothing. I felt sad and miserable seeing everybody smile and enjoy the season, something I would have to wish for on a star in another universe.

I got up from the couch and walked to the corner that had the cookies and hot chocolate. I poured the hot chocolate into one of the mugs and placed the pot back in its place. Drinking a mug of hot chocolate could be a way I could be in the spirit of Christmas.

When I turned around, I saw Sarah standing before me. "Now now, attacking the hot chocolate before we're done with decorating?" She had her hands on her hips. "I uh-" "It's okay, you don't have to say anything." She smiled, "Why don't you drink that fast and join us." She tells me. I nod my head, she smiles and then turns around to get back to decorating the house.

I let out a small sigh and took a sip of my hot chocolate. I watched how everybody had a smile on their face and enjoyed everything they did. When I took the next sip, my eyes met Jasper's. The smile on his face faded and he frowned. He made his way to where I was standing. I, in that time, drank my last sip of the hot chocolate.

"Why aren't you there?" He asked me when he stood in front of me.

"I wanted to have some hot chocolate." I shrug, knowing very well that my lie wasn't going to be accepted. "Good answer but I hate excuses, Holly." He looked at me.

"It's not an excuse, well sort of but I feel a little out of place when you all are putting up the decorations. I've never really put up anything for Christmas." Jasper was the only one, apart from Emma, who knew that I've never really experienced Christmas.

Jasper, had a smile on his face, "Is that the only reason why you aren't helping us?" I give a slight nod. "It might sound silly but I know nothing about decorating a tree or a house for Christmas." I place my mug aside, I heard him chuckle. I turned to face him and he continued to look at me.

"There's a first time for everything. This could be the first of many more Christmas' "

I forced a smile and followed him to where some tree decorations were placed. When he stopped, I stood beside him. He reached and took two angels in his hand, he turned to me and gave me one of them. "Let's start with this and then, we will put up whatever decorations we find to put on the tree." He tells me, I give a small nod.

We walked over to the tree. Jasper looked at the tree for a moment. I looked down at the Angel I was holding. The innocent angel, made of porcelain looked peaceful. Her eyes were closed, a pleasant smile and she had a halo on top of her yellow hair.

"I found a place to put the angels." I heard Jasper say.

When I looked up to see him, he was placing his angel on one of the branches. After he safely placed his angel, he turned to me.

"It's your turn now," he told me.

"Where do I place it?" I ask him.

He turned to the tree and pointed a branch out for me. "Right there." I nod and bend a little to place it on the branch but I was stopped.

"No Holly, don't place the angel there." Peter came over. "I'm sorry, I didn't know-" "It's alright Holly. You don't have to apologise for it. You didn't know." Peter stops me. I retrieve the angel and held in the angel in my hands.

"You see, Sarah and I usually put up the angels" There I go, I broke a tradition already. "But it slipped both our minds. Then again it's good that you two of you decided to put it up. We're growing old and traditions in time need to be passed down." He continues to say. He looks at me and then looks at the tree.

Jasper moved aside when his father walked closer to the tree. He found where Jasper placed his angel and he looked around it. He reached for a bell that hung next to it and placed it on another branch. He turned to me and then pointed to the branch right next to the other angel.

"That angel stays with its partner. They can never be split." He tells me. "So, I want you to place it right beside its partner." I quickly nod my head and walked over to the tree and carefully hung my angel next to the other angel. Peter gave a small pat on my shoulder and went away.

I walked over to a box placed on the coffee table. Jessica was already checking for something in there. Jasper walked over to James and helped him hang a few ornaments. He looked adorable holding James in his arms next to the tree but then my eyes fell on the two angels that hung together in the centre of the tree.

Peter was right, the angels belonged together. If they were placed apart, their beauty would be hidden and the tree wouldn't look so good.

Jessica and I soon put up some more ornaments on the tree and with each ornament, I put up, I started to enjoy putting the tree up. Who knew, decorating a Christmas tree would bring so much joy!

After a while, all the ornaments were in its place. The candles were on the coffee table, the tree was filled with ornaments and it looked even more full once the lights were put on.

Everybody plopped themselves on the couches and Sarah walked in with a tray of Hot Chocolate and some warm cookies. All of us took our mugs and took a cookie and enjoyed the treat in absolute peace.

"You know, while you all were decorating the tree, I decided to fix the stockings," Sarah spoke. "The ones we used last year were just too old and I wanted some new ones this year," she tells everybody.

She lifted some stockings from a brown bag that she placed beside her.

"It's sad that Micheal isn't here for Christmas this year." Juliet muttered. "Juliet, he has to be at his place. Wasn't that the deal? One Christmas here and one Christmas at his house." Peter looked at Juliet.

"If I hadn't gotten into a fight with Macy, I would have probably been there for Christmas with him."

"Now Juliet, appreciate wherever you are. Christmas is where your loved ones are." I wanted to give a sarcastic chuckle when I heard the second sentence but this wasn't my house and it would be rude.

Juliet didn't respond anymore and decided to concentrate on her hot chocolate.

"Back to the stockings, I'll be handing each of your stockings and you shall hang it above the fireplace." Sarah tells us and everybody mumbled in agreement.

After we were done with our hot chocolate and cookies, Sarah handed each of them a stocking with their name stitched on it. They all got up to go and hang their stockings at the fireplace. I continued to sit on the couch and watched how everybody hung their stockings.

Oh, how I wish my parents and I did this every Christmas. It's sad that they preferred their clients over me.

"Holly, why are you sitting here?" I was snapped out of my thoughts by Sarah, who was standing in front of me. "I was just finishing my hot chocolate and watching everybody hang their stockings." I reply with a smile.

"That's a sweet answer but honey if you sit here who is going to hang your stocking?" I quickly look at her, not sure of what she just said. "Just because you are our guest, does not mean that you won't be having a stocking." she showed me a red and white stocking that had my name stitched on the top. I got up and she gave the stocking to me.

"You really didn't have to." I shook my head. Should I be happy with this gesture?

"You're right, I didn't have to. I wanted to." she smiled. I couldn't help but smile. I wanted to hug her but I controlled my emotions and thanked her. I turned around and walked over to the fireplace to hang my stocking. There was only spot available and that was next to Jasper's stocking.

I hang my stocking next to his and move my fingers over my name on the stocking. Nobody has ever done this for me and with this entire month with them, I wasn't sure of how I could ever repay them.
