《Burn Archer》Eleven- The Dead Room

Comfort. A feeling not many felt far from home but yet in Ash's shoulders, the most comforting sense crept onto me even if I was so far away from home.

Ow! I felt an irritating pain in my ribs. I opened my eyes to see Eleanor poking me to wake up and pushing me off his shoulder.

"Wake up you egg head," Ella complained as she kept nudging me.

"Dude, just let her sleep, she's probably tired," he whispered.

I slowly lifted my head and gasped when I realised that my mouth had been hanging open on his shoulder for the past few hours.

Ash sighed. "Oh great."

"I'm so sorry! I even drooled all over your shirt." His shirt had stains of saliva. Ugh.

"Yeah you should be," Eleanor began saying.

"Anyways we've reached!" Hunter interrupted as he parked against the footpath.

Why did everything look so blurry? I was still in the sleep mood. The footpath seemed to be zooming in and out of focus as I opened the jeep's door. I felt Ash push, telling me to get out. I took a step forward as my feet trembled but all of a sudden, I lost balance and fell, twisting my ankle in the process.

"Ugh darn me and my clumsy feet," I cursed to no one in particular.

As Ash stepped out, he looked at me in irritation and held out a hand. His face was turned in the opposite way. I pressed my lips together as I swallowed a cry. He was so rude.

I pushed my self up forcefully as I leaned towards his ear.

"I only take help from people who aren't embarrassed of offering it" I whispered angrily.

A smile played on his lips as if he was interested in what I'd just said. "I'm deeply sorry about that."

"I'm getting used to it."

"Can we just be friends? Let's shake on it."

I narrowed my eyes at him. A guy like him wasn't going to offer anyone a kind gesture like that. He was definitely up to something.

I extended my hand but as he took it, he twisted it and pulled me to the ground. I slipped my foot backwards, making him fall on the floor completely.

"You shouldn't have done that," he said, pulling my hands and pressing it against my back. I stared down at his lips which had a smile dancing on it. I gazed at his eyes and back at his lips. I felt his grip loosen so I took my chance and pushed him to the ground.

I bent down to his ear. "Didn't they ever teach you that the number one rule of fighting is to never get distracted by your opponent?"

I glanced around and looked astonished at his defeat. Suddenly he pushed me off him. "I let you win because I felt sorry."

The silence was interrupted by Zane's hunter's phone.

"Guys, I just got a call from the stadium and they said that the sport tournament has been cancelled," Zane said.

"Oh come on! I was so excited," Gaby said as she threw her arms in the air.

Eleanor dropped her hands. "This isn't fair."

"Well that just means we get to go to the party early," Ash said positively.

I shrugged as the others started flowing into the side shop.

The spa. At the front desk, a strange eerie old alien stood. He had one eye which he glared at us with.

"The lady's spa is on the left and men on the right. You each get two hours in there and it costs twenty puffs each," he bluntly said.

Everybody got in a straight line to pay the price as they emptied out their pockets. I stood aside silently wondering what to do since I didn't have any 'puffs'.

Ash was first in the line. He handed the grumpy man some notes which I assumed were called 'puffs'.

"I'm paying for myself and for that irritating girl standing there," he muttered to the man.

Did he just pay for me? I was stunned at the act of kindness.

The man handed him two pieces of paper, telling him to keep it always. I was about to thank him but as he walked past me, he stuck the paper in my hair and disappeared into the men room.

The girls squealed as we walked into the girl's spa. We got undressed and climbed into our individual jacuzzies. Mine was in the centre of Ella's and Stephanie's.

I laid my head back just above the water, but just as I almost dozed off to sleep, Eleanor, or Ella for short, started talking to me.

"You know what I love about Mayas, Burn," she asked.

"What." My reply was more of an irritated remark than a question.

"That they only fall in love with each other and no other species!" She seemed to emphasise the word 'other' and smiled at herself.

I rolled my eyes and realised where this conversation was heading. "Look if you're talking about Ash, I don't wanna come in the middle of anything. If the two of you stay away from me, then imma' stay away from yous."

I wondered if I was lying to myself about Ash or if I had really meant what I had said. I heard her say some other things, but I dipped my head under water to avoid further discussion. After a while, I raised my head back up.

"Are there any interesting stories in your history?"

Eleanor's face sparked as she replied. "In fact there is! The most famous Maya family in history. There was this one boy called Raven Lowell. He had a brother and both parents. Apparently they say that his whole family murdered him and ran off."

Stephanie hesitated and shook her head, "No, but I've heard that he killed his whole family and disappeared forever."

"Who were his whole family?" I asked.

"Our parents knew them but I never got a chance to meet their sons," Eleanor shrugged.

I heard Gaby squeal. "You haven't met Raven? He was so good- looking. I was young so I don't exactly remember how Sebastian looked like."

"Who's Sebastian?"

"His brother-" Gaby started off.

"Most think he's dead but some say that he might still be out there," Stephanie added.

I frowned, "Who? Sebastian or Raven?"

"Both," they all said together.

Whoa, that was some wicked history right there.

"Anyways tell me about the attack on Meyer," I said nonchalantly.

"So when our parents were children, the first attack had taken place. They fought back with all their might, but the Oagles had technology that was amazing compared to ours and little did they know that there were many attacks yet to come," Gaby explained.

Stephanie continued. "And then after they had taken over our planet, we had to leave it and take shelter here."

I signed. "And that's what they're doing to my Earth."

They nodded in unison.

I gulped. "What do you think is gonna end up happening? Like are we gonna fight back?"

"I doubt it. They're probably going to wait a couple of decades so that can upgrade their technologies."

My cheeks started burning again as anger rushed into my lungs. "But what about humans?! They don't even know that better aliens exist and all of them are just going to end up dying!"

I stormed out of the Jacuzzi angrily and into the change rooms. My ears echoed with the girls shouting behind me, but I got dressed and left the ladies spa.

I sat outside in front of the desk and watched the old man working. He had a bowl of liquid that he kept taking a sip every now and then. The silence hurt my ears, so I started drumming on the walls with my hands. After a while, the rest began coming out of the spa and joined me in waiting.

"I'm so sorry for exploding in there" I whispered to Gaby as she sat beside me.

"Oh that's fine. We would be pretty sensitive too if we were in your position" Gaby replied.

"We have everyone, lets get going then!"

"Not so fast kids". We turned around anxiously and the old man was standing up with a cane in his hand.

"Does everyone have their tickets? Hold it out in your hand and stick it in the air," he said with a crooked smile.

I felt sick feeling creep onto me.

"Oh crap I left it in the change rooms!" I murmured to myself.

"Just quickly go and grab it," Eleanor whispered but I could tell she was astonished just as much as I was, when she offered to say something normal to me.

I withered away slowly and ran into the change room. When I found it, I reached out to grab it but suddenly it lit up. I jerked my hand back in shock.

It looked like it had been electrified or something. I threw a towel to it and the entire towel burnt up into a rusty black pile of dust.

"Oh. My. God." I knew that the words that left my mouth had actually been a disguise of a hideous scream.

If this happened to my ticket, then it must have happened to the others' as well.

"They were all holding it!" I screamed internally.

I sprinted back into the main room and looked at the lifeless bodies, shocked. Everyone was sprawled on the floor holding their tickets in their pale hands.

"No!" I screamed as I felt tears stretching down my cheeks.
