《The Affair》Ruby |E|

I didn't know who else to go to, I felt unwanted. Rejected.

Chloe is my best friend so she'd surely receive me with open arms. I wanted to get away from Nicolas, at least for an hour or two.

His words were not taken lightly, they were insults to me. He meant every word, it was clear, even with his foreign accent. As soon as I told Chloe how everything turned into a disaster, she began to throw her usual insults toward Nicolas until she got bored of it and suggested we'd watch a movie.

Chloe and I were watching Channing Tatum on the screen when the doorbell rang. Chloe groans but remains seated, ignoring her visitor. When the doorbell rang again, Chloe threw out a curse word as she stood up to retrieve the door.

By the sound of the door slamming and Chloe's descriptive insults, I could tell that the one standing on the other side of the door was no one other than Nicolas.

She places herself on the sofa beside me and mutters, "I think we should call his owner and tell him he climbed out of hell, again."

Out of nowhere, a loud melody was heard from the outside of Chloe's living room. Someone is being serenaded, how sweet!

At first it was just the melodic tone of a guitar but then a certain male with a thick french accent was heard singing the lyrics to The Apology Song from The Book Of Life.

That movie is my ultimate favourite, everyone knows that. No matter how old I am, that movie will always warm my heart.

I head to the door, Chloe by my side, we find him standing outside with another man who's playing the guitar while he sings.

Although his accent is french, it sounds just as heartwarming as the original singer, "I offer an apology and one long overdue," I would've never imagined he'd apologize like this, "I am sorry."

I was completely mesmerized by his gesture that I didn't notice my eyes hadn't blinked until Chloe had slapped the back of my head. "Stop drooling! He's the one who hurt you, Ruby!"

I couldn't stop staring at Nico, even after that slap. He makes his way up to the porch and places my hands in his, the warmth of it hearing me up like a fireplace.

"I am truly sorry, mon amour." He pecks my cheek, "I was a fils de pute, I should have never treated you that way after you went out of your way to please me. Pardonnez-moi, mon amour."
