《IMMORTAL LOVE | one》22 - Misjudged

That weekend in that island with Lylas would go down as one of the best weekends in Alana's whole life. Those two days even topped all her birthdays combined.
On Sunday, Alana had been excited to go to beach with him, before they slept she had listed all the fun outdoor activities they could do together the next morning. However, when that morning came, she was met with disappointment when it rained heavily the whole day.
The sound of thunder and lightening fascinated Alana. She watched from the ceiling to floor window the backdrop of this scenery outside, her fingers itching for paint and canvas.
She was busy admiring and appreciating this phenomenon of thunder and lighting—since she'd never witnessed it before in her life—when it suddenly occurred to her that it was last week of July and it shouldn't be raining where they were.
When she had asked Lylas this, suspecting he had purposely changed the weather so that he could keep her inside all day. He only shrugged and commented that the mortal's rain goddess would be offended if he intruded on her work.
And so Alana naively believed him and didn't question it further. Instead, she had asked him to conjure up paint and canvas. Lylas gladly obliged her request, only she had to pay him back in return.
When she asked him what payment he wanted, he had simply pointed to the bedroom.
Alana made a face at him and then reluctantly agreed not wanting to miss capturing thunder and lighting into paint.
It seemed her accessible compliance birthed what would be the most challenging but exciting day.
When her clothes had oddly went missing, Alana asked him for new clean clothes. This conversation, however, eventually led to her being breathless and panting under him in the laundry room.
In the afternoon, when all the food suddenly went missing as well. Alana had asked him and yet again she ended up in the same state as when her clothes went missing.
Since, it still poured outside, there was nothing entertaining to do. Hearing this remark from her, Lylas had looked her at meaningfully. Before she could ask why he was staring at her that way, she yet again found herself beneath him, while he commented how he was going to entertain her before she died of boredom.
It was safe to say that even though it had rained constantly that day, it was a day filled with many activities. Alana's body ached just as it would ache after spending a day outside. Only instead of being tired from exerting her energy. She was tired from exerting pleasure.
When dawn of Monday drew close, Lylas had taken her back to London to her apartment while she still slept. When she woke up, she was still under his arms, only this time in her bedroom. She had smiled in satisfaction, completely enamoured by him and how he had listened to her request of not leaving without a word.
That morning as Alana prepared for work, she was reluctant to leave him and the bubble she'd been encased in with him that weekend. He promised her he would visit again that night and with this promise, Alana was encouraged to go to work to her responsibilities.

That whole month of August, Alana and Lylas fell into a lovely routine. In the mornings, they would be cooped up in her small apartment doing all sorts of delicious activities before Alana went to work. In the evenings, after she returned from work, Lylas would cook diner for her and as reward she would allow him to pleasure her for the rest of the night.

Some days he would surprise her, and visit her during lunch where he would transport them to random places around the globe. Just so she could eat lunch while gazing at the wonderful famous scenery. Other days, he would just take her to hotels during those lunch breaks, because he just couldn't wait until she finished work.
Alana asked him one time why he wouldn't take her to stay in his home in the mortal realm. Karla had once mentioned how she'd been in Holland for three years after meeting Lylas—Alana emphasised this in her question.
Lylas had only stared at her and replied her question with, "Other places are not as homely and comfortable as your apartment. Other places are too big and this apartment is perfect for us."
It was the use of word us that had melted Alana's heart. He had basically group them as inclusive. Everyday, Alana found herself falling even more and more in love with Lylas. Deep down she wished she wouldn't get pregnant, just so she could keep being this intimate with him. However, she knew her duties.
Lylas had then further explained, "Holland is where one of my base companies is located, I hardly ever stay there. I only promoted Karla as executive secretary to that company because she told me she didn't want to return to London."
Then he had reiterated. "I'm hardly together with Karla, only if there's a mandatory meetings to attend then I will need her to fill me with that information."
"Oh." Alana had remarked. Suddenly feeling enlightened by his side of relationship with Karla. So in respect, Karla was delusional and deep in her one sided love, she saw his actions as him only paying attention to her.
Alana could understand Karla's point of view. Lylas didn't have the time and patience to tolerate any other woman except those already in his life.
Alana and Karla were the only exception because; one had what he had been looking for in the mortals realms for fifteen thousand years. And the other, he pitied because he had witnessed the violence of what lead her to lose her child.
To Karla, however, Lylas's lack of attention to the female department was an advantage. There was no competition and so all she had was time. For all this long, she has bided her time, patiently waiting until Lylas forgot about his wife and turned to her.
This had been a plan until Alana came into the picture. Alana could imagine how threatened Karla felt. Maybe that could her explain why she was now constantly causing trouble in his realm by destroying all those seals that kept those monsters.
As Alana listened to Lylas's angry rant about Karla's recklessness and whether it had been a good idea to bring her to his realm. She wondered whether she should enlighten him about Karla's feelings. It seemed appropriate now considering how Karla was choosing the wrong path to win his love.
And so, knowing fully well that she was being a terrible friend. Alana told Lylas about Karla feelings and what her friend had confided in her, that day after she woke up from one week's unconscious slumber.
Lylas just blinked at Alana in stupendous cluelessness. His expression as if he couldn't understand how Karla could have fallen for him. He mentioned how professional their relationship was and always thought she had cut ties with all men in her life because of the violence she went through with her ex boyfriend, Finn.
As Alana listened to him, she felt even more sorrier for Karla. There was no chance at all with Lylas. There never had been a chance. Even for Alana as well. In Alana's case, she was only lucky because she had what he needed. For everyone else that wasn't his wife, Naala, in his eyes, those women were inferior.

As August ended, September began and Alana felt more excited for this month since it was the month of her birthday. Her excitement, however, was short lived when one Saturday of mid September, Mena once again interrupted them with bad news.
Karla had injured herself.
Alana had panicked seeing the serious expression on Mena's face, she begged Lylas to take her with them. He reluctantly abided her wishes.
The return of Alana back to Lylas's palace lifted the sombre mood filling the hearts of Lylas's disciples in the palace.
Zenos was the leader of this sombre party. Alana also recognised the chef, the three goblin housekeepers, one of the soldiers whom had burned her paintings. His two peers she was yet to be introduced to. Gigi and Fifi on the other hand, were more ecstatic upon her return.
"Miss Alana, Miss Alana!" They flew excitedly around Alana.
Alana was shocked she could understand them. She froze, momentarily, staring at them in awe.
"Miss Alana, we've mastered mortal languages—" Gigi informed her
"Miss Alana, we missed you, so we vowed to study and cultivate hard so we can finally speak to you if we ever met you again." Fifi cut Gigi as they spoke at the same time.
"Miss, Alana, you are glowing, we are so glad you're in health." Gigi added.
Alana gave them a faint smile and could only reply, "Thank you, girls."
They excitedly fluttered toward her hugging each of her shoulder. "We are so glad you're back."
While Gigi and Fifi were showing off their acquired communicative skills to Alana, Zenos greeted Lylas before leading him to the healing room of his humongous palace. Alana with her favoured fairie sprites, followed quietly behind.
When they finally reached misty white healing room, she held her breath to prepare for the worst.
Karla lay peaceful on the bed, her bandaged arms, however, were most prominent. Although someone—she suspected Mena—had cuffed her hand with a magic spell. The blood stains on her wrist were the evidence of Karla's self-harm.
Seeing the state her friend was in, Alana felt sick, physically and literally nauseated. She quickly excused herself to go and throw up, leaving Gigi and Fifi stupefied by how fast she ran.
Alana couldn't look to see whom had followed after her. Her thoughts were ventured toward how bile was rising up her throat, tickling her uvula and threatening to expel out of her mouth. She quickly manoeuvred the doors in the familiar hallways and she managed to locate a bathroom. She lunged for the toilet before throwing up her all her lunch in the loo.
Alana was angry at Karla. How could she do this to herself? How could she use that one thing against Lylas? How could she hurt herself like that—potentially to remind Lylas how he lost his wife—just so that he could finally pay attention to her? If that had been Karla's purpose, then that was a low and shítty thing to do.
Alana despised people who used these insolent tactics. She especially hated when people chose to hurt themselves because they thought it was the last option. She couldn't forgive Karla for doing that to herself.
"Alana are you okay?" She could hear Mena's voice behind the bathroom door.
"Mmhmm." Alana throated a reply. Then she flushed the toilet and after wards went to the sink to rinse her mouth and face. She avoided her own reflection in the mirror.
When she exited the bathroom, Mena quickly grabbed her wrist and used her powers to read Alana's health. Alana was uncomfortable but she didn't resist, as she let Mena examine her.
"What happened to Karla?" Alana asked after she saw how quiet Mena got while examining her.
"Karla is..." Mena sighed as she released Alana. There was a concerned frown on her face and Alana felt as if Mena had bad news regarding her health.
I'm fine, I feel fine. It's just that I ate something wrong. It's only food poisoning. And yet despite all these reasons and excuses, deep down Alana had a terrible feeling. She knew that something wasn't right, the changes in her body recently were too hard not to notice.
Alana wanted to keep being denial from the truth. She didn't want to accept it as of yet. Accepting it meant the final count down will begin. Accepting it meant no more intimate moments with Lylas.
"...Karla will be fine, we managed to stop her on time, we even sealed her hands to prevent from harming herself when she woke... her mental state is what is most worrying." Mena filled her in.
Alana nodded. "I'll go, I want to be by her side." Alana quickly said, trying to prevent Mena from revealing her discovery from examining Alana's body.
"Alana, I wouldn't advise—" Before Mena could finish, Alana was already leaving to return to the healing room.
Karla was awake when Alana returned to the healing room. She was coddling up to Layla's, crying in his embrace. Lylas looked awkward as he held a hysteric Karla. Alana couldn't even feel jealous, her heart was filled with guilt, the haggard look on her friend was most alarming.
"What is she doing here!" Karla, suddenly lashed. "Why is she here? I don't want to see her!"
Everyone's eyes turned to where Karla had pointed and Alana bit her lips as all eyes stared at her. She slowly made her way over to Karla and Lylas.
"It's her fault...I don't want to see her! She took you away from me!" Karla was hysterical as she pleaded with Lylas.
Alana's heart squeezed painfully. How did it come to this? How could the optimistic girl she once knew be this way. Alana knew that what happened with Finn had broken Karla's heart. Miscarrying her child and almost losing her life, had depressed her. She had only held on to Lylas because he was her last hope. Lylas was her rock, the only one whom saved her from her nightmares.
Alana could see all of this in her friend's point of view and it broke her heart.
"Let me talk to her." Alana told Lylas.
Lylas was going to protest but Alana insisted. "I can talk sense in to her, don't worry, this conversation is long overdue, I owe it to her."
Alana knew Lylas was helpless. Although he was angry at Karla's reckless and impulsive actions recently, he was helpless when it came to self harm. However, little did Alana know Lylas could only tolerate up to so much. Karla was testing him and it will be very soon that he would stop being so forgiving.
After everyone reluctantly left the healing room, leaving only Alana and an angry Karla. Alana sighed as she went to sit on the empty chair next to the bed. Karla glared at her disapprovingly.
"You will never understand our loss, Alana." Karla began. "You think you can give birth to his child? You, innocent Alana always afraid of everything? You will never understand how he feels! That loss I only understand and I'm the only one that is capable of helping him..."
"Karla—"
"No!" She yelled, startling Alana. "I told you not to butt your business into of our affairs! Who are you to come in between us? Who are you to meddle? I told you not to fall for him, Alana."
A scary expression was on Karla's face. It was beyond aggressive, almost borderline psychotic. The expression could be described as one so delusional, they wouldn't believe anything else. Their minds would not change no matter what you said to them.
It scared Alana, this expression. Despite the confliction of feeling guilty for hurting her friend and making her like this, Alana decided she had to be up and frank with Karla.
"Karla, I'm the one with an immortal womb. I'm the one who can give him what he's been looking for fifteen thousand years." Alana began.
Karla glared at Alana.
"And just because I'm the one able to do so, doesn't mean Lylas now belongs to me. He doesn't belong to me and he doesn't belong to you either. You've been with him for three years, Karla, haven't you realised whom he holds deeply in his heart?" She asked.
As Karla listened to Alana, the frown of her face depleted in slight realisation.
"It's stupid what you're doing and I'd never thought you to be a girl that would use such tactics to get a guy to pay attention to you. Karla, self harm is no joke."
"Shut up!" Karla lashed out. "You will never understand my pain. He's mine, and you promised me Alana. You promised me you'd stay away."
"Yes I did. And for breaking that promise I'm very sorry, Karla." Alana apologised. "But you have to move on, he can never give you what you want!"
"He's been with you these whole two months! How can he be with you and not me!" She cried devastatingly, completely defeated by the thought of it.
"He's been with me because of his son, Karla. I know he can never give me his heart and I've accepted this. You should too!"
"It's not fair!" Karla suddenly cried. "Why do you have to be the one that has an immortal womb? Why?"
"I don't know. I'm sorry." Alana went to hug her. Karla struggled in her Alana's hug for while.
"No..." Karla's voice became hoarse.
"You have to let him go, Karla. You have to." Alana cried with her.
The tears wouldn't stop, her words conflicted with her own heart. Alana also knew very soon she would have to let him go. After giving him his son, she would have to move on. She would have no choice but to move on.
Eventually Karla had finally relented and calmed. After a few hours they were exhausted and so they both slept. Alana slept along side her on the bed, hugging her friend closely.
In the middle of her slumber, Alana heard voices saying, "Just leave them be, they both need rest."
Alana blocked out those voices completely and fell deep into her subconscious.
Halfway through the night she suddenly woke up from a suffocating dream that someone was choking her to death. As she came to, Alana realised the dream was in fact reality and tight hands were in fact choking life out of her.
Alana coughed and struggled in horror. As her eyes adjusted, she saw the red glint in the pair of Karla's eyes. That demonic glint couldn't belong to Karla. The strength of her hands and body couldn't belong to her friend. It was too much for Alana. She couldn't breathe. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't break free.
Deprived from oxygen and exerting the last of her energy fighting those hands, Alana's body slowly entered hypoxic shock.
"He belongs to me! He doesn't belong to you. You said his heart belongs to that woman, so what? Eventually he's going to move from her, eventually he's going to love me!"
Alana suddenly realised she shouldn't have ignore the psychotic expression on Karla's face earlier. The same expression was on her face at this moment.
Alana saw black spots blinding her vision as the lack of oxygen in her body caused by asphyxiation took toll on her. She struggled until she was too weak to pry those hands away. Alana's body begged to succumb to the darkness that beckoned her over. Death was right beyond her and for some reason she lost the will to fight for her life. For some reason she welcomed that darkness.
