《Prophesy of the Elven King》Ch. 6 Receding Grace of the Elves

I had lost track of how many days it had been since I was reborn and I was getting annoyed at being unable to move. How did I do this the first time? Maybe I was over thinking it, and I needed to force myself. Perhaps I was babying myself? Well, bad puns aside I don't want to damage my body in its early development.

Talking to Zotherg helped pass the time, but I was starting to get cabin fever. A fully conscious mind should not be detained like this. At this point, if I could speak, I would be fluent in the Elven language. Everything I knew was either overheard from my parents or said to me by Zotherg. Zotherg was quite the gossip it turned out. He went on about all the interesting minerals he currently had collected inside himself and about his hatred for dwarfs. Earth elementals liked their valuable minerals as much as dwarves. Elementals love of collecting valuable minerals led to conflict with dwarves. Dwarves love of mining likewise caused elementals and elves alike see dwarves as rapists of the earth. I thought that was a bit harsh, but elves didn't even kill trees for food and wood. They would use fallen branches or take trimmings off trees and thank the tree for it. Elves are the hippies of the forest, I thought

I could not eat food yet, but I already knew it would suck. Elves are all vegetarians it turns out. The elven body cannot even digest meat. Zotherg told me this was a fact and could not be changed. It was a biological inability to process a creatures meat. We weren't designed to be able to eat another creature. I thought about how much I would miss barbecued ribs and wondered if I'd be better off dead. Zotherg gave me the usual speech of its better to have loved and lost. Then said he would never even get to know what food tasted like so I should just accept it.

It became evident to me that elves were not even still a superpower in this world. Heck, we lived in a makeshift tent. I would have thought we were just poor, but from hearing my dad talk, it turned out he was the chief. We were nomads traveling along a monster-infested forest. It kept us safe from most humans. I was beginning to understand how dangerous our situation truly was even with Zothergs help. The irony I would be hunted by what was once my own kind was not lost on me. We were also the lucky ones it turned out. Most elves had long since been enslaved. Aren't I one lucky son of a gun? I thought sarcastically.

My parents told me history as part of my bedtime stories not knowing I could already understand them. There had been a great nation of elves with a great and powerful king. The last elven king was 700 years ago, and a great tragedy had befallen him. The king and the goddess that had created the elves with the elementals fell in love. This relationship between a mortal and a goddess alone was frowned upon by the other gods. It was even more so because they considered a relationship with one's creation incestuous. The other gods destroyed the goddess and elven king taking down their kingdom in the process. They even had a story saying that another would rise to free his people and unite all races. That his eyes of gold and his magic would tell of his arrival, that the oppressors of their people would tremble in fear as even gods would fail to protect them from his wrath.

I had a genuinely impressive expression of disbelief on my face after that story. I knew my parents must have made that up. I mean come on his wrath would be beyond the strength of gods to stop? His eyes would be gold like mine? Just theatrics right? I thought. My mother laughed and told my dad it's like I understood them. "it looks like he doesn't believe you" she said.

My Father Ileor looked me in the eyes, "This we know as our prophets have never been wrong. He will be a human reborn as our own... From a faraway land called Michigan in a kingdom called the united states."

I'm not going to lie; I literally pooped my diaper right then. That was too specific to be a coincidence. I was a human from Michigan reborn as an elf. I had golden eyes as well. My intelligence and wisdom stats are high, so ill be a powerful mage someday but how could someone else know that before I would? Am I destined to be this races Martin Luther King Jr? I asked myself. Not ten minute earlier I did not believe in prophecies. Now I had to worry about people trying to assassinate me when they put the pieces together. Everything was getting worse by the minute.
