《The Kings Mate》Chapter 19

Mason POV
I wasn't able to go to school Monday. The elders were coming to see how well I could handle a pack on my own for a week. Meaning my mom and dad were going on a vacation.
So I sat in my dads office filling out paperwork that he didn't finish. Some of this isn't even hard compared to my math classes. Like it's just adding up the costs of food for the next 6 months. How does this pack survive. I mean I guess when every pack member gives money and then we get finances.
"Mason may I ask you a few questions?" Some on asks and I lift my head up. My eyebrows fur together.
"Um if you don't mind me asking, who are you?" I ask and lean back in the office chair.
"Oh yes, I am Drake. My dad is Joseph the head elder making me junior elder." He says. I look him up and down. He's got brown hair a black suit on. Looks official.
"Okay Drake. Can I see your forms of resignation, your ID, and your elder forms." I ask and he hands me the form. I send them through the scanner and it comes up green meaning everything in official.
"Alright. Take a seat." I say and gesture to the chair in front of the desk. "Can I get you a water or a drink of some sort?" I ask and pull out a water out of the mini fridge.
"A water will be fine, thank you." He says and I hand him a water. I take a sip of the water and sit back down in the very comfortable office chair.
"So what did you want to ask me?" I straighten the papers on my desk and look at him.
"Okay I'm going to ask you 10 questions. You must answer truthfully if you wish to be king. If you do not answer truthfully your chances of winning are very small. If you do lie you will be shocked." He explains and I nod my head. He attaches a patch to my hand. I guess this thing will shock me if I lie.

"Question number 1, The elders have gotten a letter about a week or so claiming you mate Malia had actually been a werewolf. Even though you said she wasn't. Please explained what happened?" He asks looking at a note pad with all kinds of questions on it.
"Well sir, both of her parents are humans and she didn't smell any different than any other human. So I and everyone else assumed she was human. But about 2-3 weeks ago she began to shift. Her parents told her it was a recessive gene so the chances of her being a full wolf were slim, but she is." I explain to him and he writes everything down.
"Alright... Question number 2. What would our definition of the strongest pack?"
"Well the strongest pack would have a 3 hour training everyday. And on full moon we would run 52 miles on every full moon." I tell him. that's basically what it's going to be like when I run this pack. I will not loose the title of strongest pack in America. We've had the title for 50 years and I intend to keep it that way for the next 50 years. As harsh it may seem I will not loose any members of my pack because they are week and can't fight. I have some of the best fighters in the world. Why would I want to loose that.
"Question number 3. You get to take 5 of your pack membersand their mates to stay int he castle for the next for years if you become king. Who would you take?"
"I would take Malia, my beta Parker and his mate Peyton, My best friend Issac, My friend Cameron and her mate Nico." I tell him with out hesitation and take a drink from my water.
***
The questions only took around 20 minutes. He said he would be staying the week and he would be the one observing hoe well I take care of the pack.

Finally it was my favorite part off the day. Training. I finally het to train the pack how ever I want. BUt then I have to go to work. SO you know, target calls.
"Alright every one! I want 5 miles around the pack perimeter. I want you to do 2.5 of it in human form. then the rest in your wolf form. First back get as much water as they need. The last person will get whatever's left. And if their is none, well then you'll have to wait for the next exercise!" I shout so every one can hear me.
"Yes Alpha." They all say in unison and begin to run into the woods to the perimeter. I don't have to do this cause run 5 miles every mourning.
After 15 minutes the last person shows up and gets their like ounce of water before they line back up.
"Okay every one instead of the normal warm up we will be doing something different. We are doing a practice project. We're going to do 3 different versions of these through out the week. I need 100 people to step up and volunteer." I boom and 100 people step up.
"You are the hunters. Please go to the porch and grab your vest and gun. The rest of you are just wolves." I pause so everyone can get what they need.
"Okay I want the wolves to stretch. Hunters please gather around me." The 1oo people form a circle around.
"The equipment you are holding is very high tech. Do not break it. The guns are designed to feel like a silver bullet for only a minute. But they are not. Your vest will keep you alive. But once the packet of fake blood burst over your heart, stomach, and chest you are dead. Get out of the war zone as fast as you can. Take the gear off and do 10 laps around the pack house to calm down. Okay. Now go hide in the woods." I explain to all of them and they run into the woods. I walk over to the rest of the 600 people are training. Training is mandatory for every one from age 14-45. if you are older than that you tend to the pack house, cook in the dinner, buy the groceries, that kind of stuff.
I begin to explain what the hunters gear does and stuff.
"The rules of the game are simple. Spill the blood of the hunter and do not kill the hunter, I don't need any dead pack members." I say and they all nod their heads.
Everyone goes into the woods and shifts then they come back out.
"GET READY! ON YOUR MARK, GET SET GO!"

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
