and miraculously God saved my child and He saved me too. I had a bouncy baby girl. She was so hairy. Her eyes were just like my grandmother’s. She was placed beside me so I could breast feed her. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy as a teen mother. I was taken to a side ward where I was given special treats. My daughter and I were given everything we needed. I kept wandering who was practically paying all the bills. The Doctors and Nurses were all happy attending to us; there I knew my sponsor wasn’t only paying for my bills but was also attending to their pockets.

also catered for by the same sponsor. I yearned to meet him or her but to no avail. Dora undoubtedly became my first child. The sponsor also left enough money for our total upkeep. Our sponsor was Linda, the young Nurse. I only got to know after she had passed away. Linda died after she willingly decided to donate one of her kidneys to save my life, so my daughter could also live. I was told that was the only way to save the two lives. She didn’t survive the surgery. I wept bitterly. She sacrificed her life for me? I knew there might be reasons but it was too late to ask questions. I stayed at the Adabraka Polyclinic for two weeks in order to recover fully. I unconditionally named my child Maame Akua. She was a Wednesday born. Dora and I were discharged. We had no money to rent a room; so we went back to the streets. Dora was so helpful. One afternoon, it was a Thursday and I had left Maame Akua with Dora. I had then gone to the “Makola Market” to carry some loads. They were Auntie Gladys’. She was my favourite customer. She lived in Nungua and often joins the office bus on Thursdays right in front of the offices of the National Lottery Authority. News came in that there had been a fatal accident right in front of my proposed destination. I couldn’t wait to get there. Being a head Potter another word for your name was “inquisitive”. Getting closer I saw people crowded at the accident scene. While some were crying others were also taking pictures to be the first to post on social media. The tears become very audible when I got closer. With the load on my head I still managed to get firsthand information of events as they unfolded. The crowd was too thick to penetrate through. I got fed up so I decided to off load Auntie Gladys’ items and rush to feed Dora and Maame Akua. I had made quite enough that day so I decided to buy new clothes for them. I even added some readers that actually had the alphabet and simple words. I had plans to enroll Dora into the Public School opposite the Barclays Bank, High Street. I swore to give her the very best of everything. Every night before we went to bed I made sure she read something. Dora was very intelligent. I remember she once told me she would also love to be a head potter or beg on the streets so she could help me financially. I rebuked her and told her I had enough money to cater for the two of them. The heavens knew that was a big lie. There were most times I had to go off food for days so I could get them enough food to eat. My tears were always shrouded in my mind. I promised Dora and her little sister I wouldn’t make them go through the same bitter ordeal that I went through. It wasn’t easy fulfilling that promise.

but realized Dora and Maame Akua were nowhere to be found. I became so angry because I had warned Dora never to go out in my absence. I became worried but thought probably they had gone to the Toilet facility right at the entrance of the Tema Station. Amina, a colleague of mine rushed to me crying. She got me confused. She had the very cloth that Dora often used to carry Maame Akua. She couldn’t talk but rather asked me to follow her. My heartbeat increased and tears dripped down my cheeks without even knowing the reason for which I had to cry. Amina’s tears were infectious. We got to the accident scene and as if she was commanding an army; practically asked the crowd to give way and that their mother was in. In no time we were in front of the crowd. I saw three lifeless bodies covered with leaves right on the floor. Blood was everywhere. Just then the Police also arrived to carry the bodies away. I heard comments from the crowd that the three lifeless bodies were street beggars and that a Lawyer who disobeyed the traffic regulation, drove passed the red light and accidentally these three persons were there. He uncontrollable hit them. The three died on the spot with their heads smashed. The Police took off the leaves and Jesus Christ! Two of the lifeless bodies were my two children: Dora and Maame Akua. I suddenly became feverish and lost control of my legs, I started to run but to nowhere. They crowd held me. I didn’t know where I had that strength from; I pushed everyone aside and kept running. Unconsciously, I started removing my clothes. I heard a loud shout of my name, I turned and it was Lawyer Klufio. He killed my children…
