Monday 12:08 PM.
(Y/N) had stayed back to asked the teacher a few questions, telling Kai to go to the cafeteria without her. So to say she was surprised was an understatement when she found Kuroo standing outside her classroom. He gave her a warm smile, while (Y/N) stared at him confused.
"What are you doing here?" (Y/N) asked.
"I was waiting for you." Kuroo replied, nonchalantly.
"O-Oh, uh, thank you." (Y/N) mumbled and the two began walking to towards the cafeteria. (Y/N) would occasionally glanced over at Kuroo's face, trying to see if he had any dark circles. Looking over one more time, Kuroo also turned his head and their eyes met, making (Y/N) panic.
"So, h-how did you sleep over the weekend?" (Y/N) stammered out.
"Oya? Are you worried about me?" Kuroo asked, making a red tint takeover her face.
"U-Uh," (Y/N) paused.
"I'm joking, I didn't get much sleep though." Kuroo replied, chuckling.
"Why?" (Y/N) asked, her curiosity peaking.
"I was thinking about you." Kuroo replied, making (Y/N)'s widened.
"W-What?" (Y/N) stammered, making Kuroo chuckle.
"I was thinking about you, (Y/N)." Kuroo repeated, making (Y/N)'s face turn beat red. She looked away from the tall volleyball player, not even able to look in his direction.
"...when did you turn so cheeky?" (Y/N) muttered.
"You already know how I feel about you, so why hide it?" Kuroo explained, smiling. They arrived at the entrance of the cafeteria.
"I just need to know how you feel." Kuroo mumbled, pushing the door open. Following behind him, (Y/N) stared at the back of his head.
You make me happy.
But is it the different kind of happy?
How is he so sure?
(Y/N) took her usual seat next to Kai, listening into the conversation that the volleyball players wee having. It seemed they were having a heated discussion about ice cream.

Picking up the stack of papers, (Y/N) felt a sharp pain. She glanced down at her finger and was disappointed to find a paper cut. (Y/N) was about to ignore it when it began bleeding, letting out a sigh she approached the graphic design teacher that supervised them.
"Saito-sensei, do you have any bandaids?" (Y/N) asked.
"Oh, I don't. But there are probably some in the nurses office, you can try going there." They replied, making (Y/N) nod her head. She walked out the room towards the nurses office, not paying too much attention to her surroundings. (Y/N) was still a bit frazzled from lunch.
I like him?
Arriving at the front of the nurses office, she was surprised to find the door was already opened. She peeked her head in and her eyes widen when she made eye contact with Kuroo.
"Are you hurt again?" (Y/N) immediately asked, concerned.
"No, no, I'm just getting ice." Kuroo reassured.
"For who?" (Y/N) asked.
"Lev, he got hit in the head." Kuroo explained,"What are you doing here?" Kuroo questioned, curiously scanning the girl in front of him.
"Just getting a bandaid." (Y/N) mumbled, walking over to the container of bandaids left on the desk. Kuroo eyes never left her and he caught a glimpse of the paper cut.
"Hey, I'm not the ones who's hurt this time." Kuroo joked, making (Y/N) laugh a little.
"It's just a paper cut." (Y/N) shrugged off.
"Still, every time we met here, I'm injured." Kuroo muttered a pout on his face,"I better head back before this ice melt. I'll see you later?" Kuroo asked

"Yeah...we'll walk to the train station together." (Y/N) confirmed, she watched as he began walking away. Without even thinking, her hand reached out to grab his blazer, tugging him lightly.
"Wait, Kuroo." (Y/N) mumbled, making him turn around.
"Yes?" Kuroo asked.
"I think I....uh," (Y/N) paused, as her cheeks began burning.
"You?" Kuroo questioned.
"...I think I like you too." (Y/N) confessed, her voice barely audible and her gaze set on the floor.
"(Y/N)." Kuroo called out, making her look up.
"Hm?" (Y/N) hummed, not sure if she could even form sentences.
"Can I kiss you?" Kuroo asked, making (Y/N)'s face turn into a tomato. She thought about it for a few seconds, before she gave a slight nod. Kuroo took this cue and leaned in, planting a kiss on her forehead.
Huh?
(Y/N) felt the butterflies completely melt away, replaced with an unfamiliar warm feeling. She glanced up at Kuroo, who stared at her a bit nervous.
"Do you still like me?" Kuroo asked, (Y/N) stayed silent.
"(Y/N)-" He was interrupted when (Y/N) suddenly hugged him.
"...yeah, I like you a lot." Her voice muffled, making Kuroo chuckle.
"As cute as this is, Lev needs his ice."

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Please use your best judgment, and don't be afraid to take breaks and come back later. I'll still be here! [Discord] - come hang out and chat!
