JJ sat next to Reid on the back of the ambulance as he was examined by two paramedics. "Can you see straight?" the man asked Reid. "Yeah, I'm fine." Reid said nodding his head. "Does this hurt?" the paramedic asked pressing down on Reid's head, sending pain to the bloodied wound. "Ooh, yep, it hurts like hell." Reid said squeezing JJ's hand tightly. "Okay. We're gonna give you a few stitches, but it doesn't seem like you have a concussion. You're lucky Dr. Reid." the man added winking. "Emily!" JJ yelled letting go of Reid's hand sprinting across the mall parking lot. "Oh my God I'm so happy to see you." Emily said wrapping JJ tightly in her arms. JJ began to cry as she placed her hands on Emily's shoulders. "You have no idea." JJ replied wiping tears away from Emily's face, who had joined in on the crying. "Are you okay? Where's Reid and Morgan?" Emily asked as JJ walked back towards the ambulance. "Emily!" Reid said smiling as Emily gave him a friendly hug. "Oh my God Reid are you okay?" she asked wiping blood away from his cut. "Now I am." he said smiling at JJ then at Emily. "Hotch and Rossi are on their way. As a matter a fact that's them now!" Emily said smiling running to greet Derek. "And then there were two." JJ said laughing as she grabbed Reid's hand in hers. "Ooh." Reid moaned as the last stitch was put over his wound. "Damn." JJ said causing Reid to raise an eyebrow. "What?" he asked. "You're still the hottest guy I've ever seen even with a stitched up face. Reid giggled and looked at the ground. "Hey." JJ said moving Reid's head with her finger. "What's wrong." JJ asked. looking into his eyes. "Nothing." he replied with a blank face. "Hey, I'm not stupid. And you know I love you. You can tell me." JJ responded rubbing the palm of his hand. Reid let out a quiet sigh as his eyes began to water. "They didn't have to shoot him. He's vulnerable. He only wanted compassion. He never meant to hurt us, or anybody for that matter. He didn't know any better." Reid replied. "Spence," JJ whispered. "You know my moms a paranoid schizophrenic? He said to me Jaydge, before he, died, he asked if he would see them again. His kids. He just wanted to see his kids again." Reid said wiping a tear away from his eye. "Listen Spence. He died looking at you. You were the last face he saw. He died smiling, and you did all you could. You showed love and compassion to this man. And you should be proud. He died happy. And now he will see his kids again. He's free." JJ said smiling at Reid. Reid looked up smiling wide. A genuine smile. Reid wrapped his arms around JJ and rocked back and forth as she rubbed his back gently. "Hey kid." Rossi said smiling as the two let go of each other. "Rossi!" Reid and JJ both yelled as they gave him a hug. "I'm glad you guys are okay. You had me worried sick. We heard what happened. And I'm so glad you guys are okay." Rossi said winking in order to hold back tears. "Spence is a fighter that's for sure." JJ said winking at Reid subtly. "That's for sure." Hotch said hugging JJ them Reid. Morgan and Emily joined the group as Morgan walked toward Reid to examine the stitches. "Pretty boy, you better get better quick. You might not want those to ruin your face for too long." Morgan said causing even Hotch to crack a smile. "Let's get the hell out of here." JJ said rolling her eyes. "Agreed." Reid said as the six left to board the jet.

By joining the war on the southern border. Not a war against mythical beasts or powerful demons, but against other humans. He thought that he’d finish a single deployment then come back to the castle, proud enough to stand beside his friends again. In the wild places of our planet, dark vestiges of our paranormal past yet cling to twisted life. In the past, the hunters and trappers of the world were tasked with removing such blights from society's fringes - legal assassins, enlisted to enforce the will of civilization against those unnatural, otherworldly hosts. Nowadays, we're not so lucky. With the idea of proper monster-hunting fading from public perception, the once-prestigious mantle is donned by amateurs, hobbyists, and self-taught warriors. It pays poorly, it's dangerous, and people would rather do something that gets them rich or famous or drowning in attention. Most often, new-age monster hunters are born from tragedy. They lack the tact, training, and funding of hunters passed. Instead, they have only their wits and brawn to carry them through. So it is with our hero. In the woods of the American Midwest, foul creatures lurk. Tabitha Varna, a young college drop-out scarred by her past, is determined to uproot them or die trying. Sometimes she hopes for both.[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
