《Brave》Chapter 10: Sneaking Out

Upstairs, Elinor was pacing back and forth, lecturing Merid and (Y/n) who were sitting on her bed.
"There's no point in having a go at us. The witch is to blame. Goggly old hag." Merid said.
Elinor picked up her tattered dress and crown. She placed the crown back on her head, but saw that the dress wasn't going to fit.
"Eyes all over the place. Unbelievable. I'll get her to fix this. Why do I always get blamed for everything? It's just not fair." Merid ranted.
...
Fergus was still sniffing the air.
"Everybody, follow me. And keep a sharp eye." Fergus announced, climbing up the stairs.
"Here we go, another hunt through the castle." Dingwall sighed.
"But we haven't even had dessert yet." MacGuffin complained.
MacGuffin's daughter said something to the other two suitors, but her accent was too thick to understand.
Macintosh's daughter just chuckled. "I have no idea." She said to Dingwall's daughter.
...
Elinor exited her room with a sheet wrapped around her body.
"My Queen, you can't go out there." (Y/n) whispered.
Elinor didn't listen and kept walking, bumping into things as she went.
"Mum, wait. What are you doing? Dad, The Bear King? If he so much as sees you you're dead." Merid told her.
Suddenly, they heard voices coming from behind them.
"Another one of your entertainments to bore us to death." They heard Dingwall complain.
They peeked around the corner and saw King Fergus and the clans coming up the stairs.
"Oh, and what exactly are we after...my liege?" Macintosh asked sarcastically.
Elinor had already started going back the other way.
"Mum!" Merid whisper shouted, following after her.
(Y/n) stopped and picked up a stand that Elinor had knocked over, before Merid came over and grabbed her hand, pulling her after the Queen.
"Best to humor him. He is, after all, the King." MacGuffin added.
Merid and (Y/n) disappeared around the corner as soon as Fergus looked down the hallway they were just in. Fergus started sniffing around again.
"He's like a hound with that nose of his." MacGuffin commented.
...
"Mum, wait! We have to..." Merid tried to get her to slow down, but Elinor ignored him, and kept walking, knocking into a tall candelabra.

"Mum, stop. Stop!" Merid grabbed the blanket and pulled it off of her.
Elinor looked down and tried to cover herself.
"You're covered with fur. You're not naked." Merid snapped. "It's not like anyone's gonna see you."
"Uh...Merid?"
Merid and Elinor looked to (Y/n) to see her looking down a hallway. They followed her gaze and saw Maudie standing there, gaping at them. Elinor awkwardly waved at her, and she screamed and ran away.
"Now you've done it." Merid said.
...
Maudie ran through the castle screaming her head off, when she was stopped by a sword at her neck.
"Maudie!" Fergus exclaimed, taking the sword away.
Maudie started stuttering.
"Just clam down lass. What is it?" Fergus asked calmly.
Maudie kept stuttering.
"Spit it out Maudie!" Fergus grabbed her by the shoulders.
"A bear!" She finally screamed.
"I knew it!" Fergus shouted, pushing Maudie aside.
The men all charged forward leaving Maudie behind.
...
"Would you just listen to me? We can't go this way. You'll be seen." Merid said.
Suddenly, they heard the men yelling and coming towards them.
"Quick this way." Merid said, pulling (Y/n) down a hallway, but Elinor went in the opposite direction.
The two made their way down a stair case before they realized that Elinor wasn't with them.
"Mum?"
...
Elinor made her way around the halls, bumping into things before she eventually made her way into a room that had a bunch of animal heads. She saw the three boys putting wings and a deer head on a bear's body. Elinor gasped, and then the triplets looked up and gasped too.
...
Merid and (Y/n) walked through the halls softly calling Elinor's name.
"Mum? Oh!" Merid turned and saw the clans coming towards them.
They ran around a corner and Merid pulled (Y/n) into his chest just as they ran by. Once they were gone, they started moving forward, but they weren't watching were they were going and tripped over a knocked over drawer.
Merid landed on his back and pulled (Y/n) down on top of him. The two blushed when they noticed how close they were. Their noses were almost touching.
They quickly got up and Merid muttered a quick apology.

(Y/n) was about to say something, when they heard bear noises. They opened the door to the room with all the animal heads and saw Elinor scolding the boys to put the deer head back.
The boys noticed Merid and (Y/n) standing there and gestured to the bear. Elinor looked at them and gestured to the triplets.
"A witch turned mum into a bear, it's not my fault. We've got to get out of the castle. We need your help." Merid explained.
The boys just looked at him skeptically. Clearly they weren't going to do it for free.
"Oh, alright." Merid sighed. "You can have my desserts for two...three weeks."
It wasn't enough.
"Okay. Fine. A year." Merid grumbled.
The boys nodded in agreement.
...
The men were wondering the halls and being led by King Fergus. They were still looking for the bear, when a roar sounded through the air.
"Did you hear that?" Dingwall asked.
Fergus shushed him.
One of the triplets yelled into a pot to make it sound like a bear, while another held up a raw chicken on a stick to create the shadow of a bear.
"There it goes!" Fergus shouted and they all raced after it.
The boys cast the shadow all around the castle leading the men further and further from Elinor, Merid and (Y/n).
One of the boys made a bird call noise as a signal and Merid, (Y/n) and Elinor came around the corner. Merid and (Y/n) changed out of their ruined clothes into their normal ones.
"Come on mum." Merid whispered, grabbing (Y/n)'s hand.
Elinor made her way down the hall bumping into almost everything.
Meanwhile, the boys had used their fake bear to lure the men up onto the roof.
"I was sure it went this way." Fergus said.
"You can see my house from here." MacGuffin commented.
"It must've sprouted wings." Dingwall said.
"Or was carried away by a giant birdy." MacGuffin chimed in.
"A dragon perhaps."
"Bear in the castle. Doesn't make sense. It's can't open doors. He's got big giant paws." Macintosh scoffed.
"Let's just get inside." Fergus sighed. He pulled the handles to the door that led back into the castle, only to find it locked.
"It's locked." Fergus snapped.
"Dingwall was the last one up." MacGuffin snitched.
"I propped it open with a stick." Dingwall defended.
Little did they know, two of the princes had taken the stick and locked them out, trapping them on the roof.
...
The other triplet was leading the others out of the castle. He opened the door to the kitchen and peeked in to see Maudie being comforted by two hand maids.
"What did you see Maudie?" One of them asked.
"Just spit it out Maudie." The other said.
Maudie was in hysterics.
"Oh, for goodness sake, Maudie, would you get a grip?"
Just then, one of the triplets fell out of the fire place with a chicken on its head, which caused Maudie to scream and run onto of the kitchen, the two hand maids running after her.
"Come on your majesty, quick." (Y/n) whispered, going down the kitchen steps with Merid.
Elinor banged her head on the door way before squeezing herself into the kitchen, then slipping down the steps, and banging into pots and pans.
They finally made it to the exit and the three boys surrounded them, giggling and smiling.
Elinor whined at her boys.
"They'll be fine. Won't you boys?" (Y/n) reassured.
The boys nodded, not wanting to disappoint their favorite maid.
"Mum, (Y/n) we've got to hurry." Merid insisted, before turning to the boys. "We'll be back soon. Go on and help yourself to anything you want, as a reward."
Merid closed the door to the kitchen leaving the boys alone. The three looked around the kitchen before spotting a very distinct cake, with a bite already taken out of it...
...
Meanwhile, on the roof, the men had tied their kilts together to make a rope so they could all get down.
"Right." Fergus said, once the last person had gotten down, and started making his way back to the castle.
Everyone else followed behind him, all of them naked from the waist down except for the three daughters, who were trying their very hardest not to look down.
