Alex jumped up. He took one look at her, and saw her angry expression. He immediately decided he wasn't in the mood.
"Whatever you're about to say, save it."
"You went to Earth!?" She demanded.
Loki furrowed his brows. How could she have known that? The window in his chambers overlooked the gardens, not beyond that. She couldn't have known he went to the Bifrost, and even if she did, how did she know why?
"Who told you that?" He growled.
"Doesn't matter. Why the hell did you go to Earth? What did you do?!"
"Who told you?" He repeated, deadly calm.
"Your mother."
He fell silent. Now that Frigga knew she was here, there was no telling what she would do. She was unpredictable in how she handled things. She would no doubt question why he held a girl captive, especially her being mortal. However, Frigga most definitely would be able to sense that the girl has powers, and Loki wasn't sure how she'd respond to that.
"You've met Frigga."
"I have. We had a lovely chat." Alex said, her voice dripping with attitude. "Now, tell me why you went to Earth."
"Do not give me orders."
"Did you hurt anyone?" She asked, almost afraid of the answer. She instantly thought of Tony, and how she was unsure if he'd be able to fight Loki by himself. If anything happened to him, she'd be devastated. Even worse, she wouldn't know.
"No."
She felt relief, but was then overwhelmed with confusion.
"D-Did they offer you the scepter?"
"They set a trap." Loki said with a hard face. "They thought I would fall for a decoy."
"Why'd you go down then if you knew it was fake?"

"I didn't know it was fake when I saw it at the Bifrost. It was when I stepped into the room and felt the absence of power that I realized."
"They didn't try to trap you?"
"They did, I'm just not an idiot."
Alex rolled her eyes. She considered pressing the matter, but thought better. However, she was dying to ask about his mother. What would she even ask? What did she want to ask? How much did she want to know?
"What is troubling you this time?" His voice took her out of her head.
"Who said I'm troubled?"
"You scrunch your nose when you're thinking about something too hard. It's pathetic." He added the last part quickly.
Rather than replying with a snarky comment, she chose to pick her battles. "Your mother, she told me things about you."
"Such as?"
"Nothing I couldn't see before."
He chuckled humorlessly. "Did she tell you she loves me? That I am still the same to her, even though her son is a monster?"
"She did, actually."
Loki glanced over at Alex to see if she was serious. "My mother is the only person here who could attempt to understand me,"
"I'm trying to understand you,"
"You could never." He spat.
"Well, I'm trying! And you put up a wall every time I get close to!" Alex argued.
He scoffed. "You tell me what I want to hear because you want to escape. You hope I'll let you go, if you can help me. Well, you can't. No one can help me."
Her heart broke a little at his words. He was right. She hated to admit it, but he was right. Her intentions were tainted, so her actions couldn't be considered good. She did lie awake, thinking of ways she could get him to let her go.

She had continued to put up a fight, to be as difficult as humanly possible. He didn't seem to mind, in fact, it even amused him. Silly of her to think she could be more difficult and annoying than the God of Mischief himself.
So, she resorted to trying to get him to trust her. Of course, this caused her enormous guilt, but she needed to go home. As days went on, however, she was starting to realize that she wasn't leaving. For the greater good, the Avengers have most likely decided the scepter was not to land in his hands.
"I'm going to be here for a while, that much is clear. You might as well stop pushing me away." She spoke, crossing her arms.
"Why, so you can use my weaknesses against me?"
"You think I would do that?" She asked.
You would do that.
"I haven't hurt you. I haven't given you a reason not to trust me." She tried.
"You've tried to escape twice."
"Okay, I've given you a reason not to trust me to leave this room, yes. But, I haven't given you a reason not to confide in me. I won't hurt you,"
"You will." He said gravely. "You will because I can see how you look at me. I saw the look of terror in your eyes when I showed you my true skin. You see me as something to fear, which is why, Alexandra, you will hurt me."
She had no response. Nothing he said was incorrect. If she had the chance, she'd run. She'd run as far as she could from him. Would she hurt him, if given the chance?
She didn't know.
"Loki, I want to understand you so I don't fear you."
"That's just it. You can't."
A flip switched in her.
"What can't I understand? My parents never loved me, either. They didn't even love each other, My own father tried to electrocute me! I have these...powers surging inside me, and I have no clue how to control them. I want to know how to control them, but the only person who might be able to help terrifies me!" She had gotten close to him in her rage.
The lights had been flickering, unnoticed by Alex but not Loki. In this moment, he saw a familiar emotion in her, he had seen in himself.
Desperation.
He clung on to that desperation, because it was the only thing they might be able to understand about each other.
"You and I, we're more similar than you want to think. But, because you're a 'god', you refuse to accept that. But you know what's different? I don't take my anger and use it as a tool to destroy. No, Loki. I use it as a tool to create. I create this energy, to help. Not...to hurt."
The flickering stopped.
"We could help each other, you and I. And you know it. And I think that's what you're scared of," She never looked away from his eyes. "You're scared I can understand."
Loki was at a loss for words. The defiance, the anger she held in her, it ignited something in him. The tiny fleck of hope he still had, it danced at her words. We could help each other.
Suddenly, the door flung open.
Frigga stepped in, raising an eyebrow at the obvious tension in the room.
"You must come now. Thor has brought a mortal here, and something is gravely wrong with her."

Malheur aux vaincus - Short stories
I am a reader, not a writer. But in the spirit of contributing to the trove of texts present here, I hope to share some short stories that I wrote: two in French in a Roman Fantasy setting ; and the rest in English: one inspired by manichean webnovels, another one... difficult to classify as a fiction, a little flight of fancy about the 'What if?' game, and last even two poems.
