《RELINQUISH》Chapter 17

At exactly seven in the morning, Evelina was standing there, waving her hand to greet me in an empty alley. We both smiled, asking each other how we were, before checking ourselves to get ready to teleport.
“Here’s your dorm room key and ownership card…” We talked a little bit with some black suit women in the administration. It turns out that managing this room ownership is not as complicated as I thought.
Probably because Evelina already took care of it yesterday without telling me anything… Just like a mother.
“What now?” I threw the silver key that was jingling in the air over and over, an old habit that I can't get rid of when I'm holding onto something that's easy to lose.
“Actually, we can already meet with other team members, so... I guess it will be more interesting for you to just pop right in their faces like a surprise? Uh... Can you stop that? You will regret it if you lose it later.”
“What?! Suddenly pop right in their faces you say? What kind of way of thinking is that?!”
“But before that, give me your left hand, Daniel…”
I stopped playing with the room key... Tilted my head in confusion, forcing her to ask the same question for the second time... Then I obeyed her wish.
“Here… For you…”
A bracelet with three black strands from one small iron chain, she put on my wrist along with many more bracelets that I already have.
“What is this?”
“Before that, let me explain a little about this power that we have as a carrier... So this power strengthens our body every time we kill someone. The problem is, the Sins Takers are not allowed to commit murder, because it is likely to make us thirsty for power itself. The organizations before us have all disbanded due to the same case as above... That is, all its members think that the power they have means everything to survive. Instead, they commit crimes with the confidence that no one will ever dare to stop them.”
“That was not just a little explanation, but… Okay.”
“Luckily, the power that we have is actually divided into two parts from the start… Both of them are defensive and offensive. Defensive side works by strengthening our skin and body to make it even harder to injure... Increase our durability, also reduce the body's need for water and food. While offensive acts by inhumanly multiplying the ability of our muscles... Make us move faster, punch harder, even add a psychic effect when we make an impact on something.”
“Yes, but maybe we should learn a little bit about using the word a little.”
“I recently heard that the great carriers of Knowledge, Earth, Illusion and Reality that are now working with Edward, have succeeded in developing some kind of super strong handcuffs... Which can withstand and reduce the offensive power of the carriers. That way, we don't have to worry about having to kill or be killed by anyone… Yesterday, I explained to Edward a little about your situation. And asked him to make this just for you…”
“A little…”
Evelina was still smiling proudly with herself... So with that, I can only give up and laugh back at her childish behavior.

“Try to grab something.”
Hearing her words, my head went around looking for something…
“Um… This key?” I asked.
“No! Let’s play it safe… Grab my hand.”
“Lady, You care more about this piece of silver than your own finger bones?”
“I’m the great carrier of forgiveness… I can heal any wound and disease. After all, we've never officially greeted each other.” Her hand moved even closer to my face.
With that innocent girly smile she had, I could only give up… Again... So I gripped her smooth little hand with all my might, as if on purpose.
But she doesn't feel any pain at all...
“See?” She looks happy with the results she has achieved… So then I let go of the grip... And I feel a little regret.
Elis, how much power do I have right now?
“About one and a half? I dunno… I can’t do math…”
“Evelina, how does this bracelet work again?”
“By reducing the amount of your offensive power… I think that’s all… Oh! I just remembered... Ninety percent! Something like this should be able to reduce one's strength by ninety percent!”
“So this is one point four for myself…”
Elis, you really can’t do math…
“There's only zero point one difference! What do you want from me, huh?!”
“Evelina… Thank you. This means a lot to me… Or can I pay you for this with something? I can try...”
“Just call me Ellie…”
“Eh?”
“Eh? I mean you don’t have to pay anything for that... But just call me Ellie.”
“Ah…”
Elis for Eliones, Ellie for Evelina… Guys… Can I tell you this?
Both of you really aren't good at shortening names… it's pathetic…
“Shut up.”
“Then just call me Niel… Though so far no one has ever called my name by shortening it.”
“Me too…”
“Eh!?” I was taken aback by what Evelina had just said without the slightest bit of explanation… I meant to ask, but she suddenly tapped my shoulder to teleport.
We suddenly appeared in front of a large glassy door... While I'm still trying to ask, but with a big smile, Evelina slid the door open, pushing me into the room from behind.
This is the training hall that Evelina once showed me, but the difference is… This place is filled with many people lined up each in front of one nation's army member as their coach.
“Be firm when you greet him, okay?” Evelina… Or should I call her Ellie now? She whispered, before then she talked with a serious face to that old and burly soldier.
“Sir!”
“Oh… Evelin. So this is your new member? Two great carriers in the same base... Indonesia is lucky enough for that. Now change your clothes! We are away behind schedule.”
“Yes sir.” I just followed what Evelina was saying, but more stiffly. Walking towards two side by side doors, Ellie then handed me a big dark brown backpack.
“Wait a minute, young lady... I don't know what to do yet... What's this?”
“Just the same t-shirt, sweatpants and shoes like everyone else. Put it on, then meet me at this door.”
“But I’m scared! Can I join you in the same room?”

“Eh!?”
“Joking… Hehe...” I walked swiftly, entering the room with the male symbol on the front door. Quickly putting on each outfit, I then went out, approaching the same person.
She's not there... Maybe I'm a little too fast?
Wait… Are there any clothes I forgot to wear?
“Ah… Sorry for waiting. Let’s go…” Ellie suddenly appeared by teleporting, walking ahead of me while still trying to tie her own long hair.
“Miss, I think it would be better if you used the door… You know, sometimes you manage to give me a heart attack. By the way, doesn't this outfit feel a little too informal? I thought that we are already classified as an army.”
“We are not… If it is to be compared, we are more like volunteers.”
“What the…” Without continuing the debate, we joined in the back row.
~~~~~
There were about a thousand people in this hall. Not only is it spacious, but this place also has two floors whose top is slightly smaller than the ground floor and the roof is the same as the ceiling of a church. luxury and artistic…
It was so vast, the voices of several trainers shouting from the front could be heard echoing like they were in a cave, where I couldn't understand any of what they were saying.
“Hey… New face…”
“New what?” I reflexively responded to the whisper of someone standing right beside me.
“You are Daniel, right bro?” Tall, slightly hunched over and a head he had just trimmed off, this man seemed very excited to talk to me... I also felt the positive aura he has, and started to talk exactly just like him.
“Yes bro... And you are?”
“Call me Sion, bro… Nice to meet ya!”
“Shut up, back there!” One of the coaches shouted to make us silent. While looking at us with unplayful eyes, the burly man waved his hand to direct the front row to run around the hall, followed closely by the rear row.
“Follow me boys!” Sion whispers with a fairly loud echo.
“Sion! Shut up!”
“Yes sir!”
Yep, they really don't deserve to be treated just like soldiers... Now I understand.
As the hours went by, we did a lot of endurance exercises. Such as running, push ups, pull ups and such. I even forgot to call each of these training sessions what they were usually called by people.
Noon arrived, all the people in the hall were separated according to their respective teams. Each led by a soldier, the old man explained something these people seemed to have heard many times.
“Always remember the first and foremost rule for a sins taker! No one is allowed to kill! We are trained here to immobilize the enemy's movement. All targets will be brought alive no matter what! Secondly, prioritize the safety of others! Your death is a source of strength to the enemy. You hear me?!”
“Yes sir!”
“This is going to be the worst job we ever received.” Elis sighed.
“Will be the hardest, more precisely. Since your hanky-panky only works to kill someone.”
“Hanky-pa… What!?” She stuttered.
“A last resort and one that you should always consider when fighting someone who is intent on killing, is by injuring his limbs... Carriers can regenerate wounds slightly faster than any normal human being. So you don't have to be afraid, because they won't die right away. So for the new guy, Here we will practice judo more than any other martial art. Always focus with all instructions, respect seniors and don't hesitate to ask your friends for help… You hear me?!”
“Yes sir!” That was my first clear yes sir for my entire life.
“What a good spirit you have right there! Okay so for now, line up! Keep your distance, take position!”
“Yes sir!” Everyone answered in unison, stood up and ran for a place.
“Daniel… Right here!” Sion waved his hand. There I met several people, we shook hands with each other, talked a little small talk, then practiced all day.
~~~~~
In the evening, we were separated again into a much smaller team. There are six people, this is Ellie and I's core team. There we just talked in a small break room specially for us.
I tried to remember every one of their names…
Sion, Frans, Novita, Jogi, Evelina... Wait... Who's Evelina? Oh... Ellie... I forgot her real name just for a moment.
“So, Daniel… What’s your power, man?” Frans, a man with a thin and pale body, suddenly drew everyone's attention to me… I think he has the most fertile face out of all of us boys.
Dammit!
“Uh…”
“Come on, just tell us. Don’t be shy…” they started forcing me.
“It’s like… A magic. That can spawn and… Control this kind of… Things? It’s hard to explain, ya know…”
“It has a name right? Your power… What great carrier are you?” Frans cornered me again.
Elis? What should I tell them?
“why do you have to keep it a secret, you dumb?”
Tell them if I can control suffering?! No offense, but remember the reason why the rules of your old world tried to eliminate you again, Elis?
“Wow… That’s rude.”
Yes, but now you understand.
“Still… You are pathetic, you know that? Just tell them that you are the user of non-elemental power… Done! Praise me!” An insult by Elis.
“I am the great carrier of the non-elemental… Sort of…”
“Wow, that sounds cool! Show us!” Sion clapped his hands with high expectations.
This is going to be the very shortest friendship I've ever had after the random guy back there... Goodbye Sion…
“Don’t force him…” Finally the person I've been waiting for, came one-sidedly with me.
“You've seen it, evelin?” Everyone immediately changed their eyes to this girl.
“No, but… Yes? I mean… Yes!” Ellie, you stupid.
“Unique fact, but all of the Eliones' existences in all dimensions were actually really bad at lying... That's why I prefer to speak frankly to anyone… And that’s also another reason why they hate me… Fuck…”
Thanks, Elis… And I feel sorry for that.
“And he is currently unable to show his own magic, so... Please just don't force him to do that… Casting magic really took out a lot of stamina.” Another word from Ellie.
“Copy that, team leader…” Sion salutes this girl solemnly… Wait. What?!
