《Without horizon》Chapter Fifteen - White crawlers

A call for it was heard from a distance, and with it, a group of residents in a simple plaza began to organize a large festival. The center is full of long tables full of food, some exotic, some bigger than themselves. At each end, alcohol and a meal were served, and all the celebrants went out to hang out, dance, and celebrate until they forgot why they did this.
But not everyone went to the festival. Some are still busy in the mine trying to drip white liquid that is not behaving normally, but they have been messing with it for a long time.
"We filled all the containers!" Announced the crew chief as they filled the last container. Soon they began to move the containers with their two hands into a large cart that was tied to an old, rusty drake-like automaton, and without time to wait, they began to exit the mine toward the center.
One of the workers released an owl-pixie into the air to survey the area, and the rest checked around them while the crew chief controlled the direction.
"I hope this is the last time we do this" one of them complained as he looked at the mountains.
"At the request of the manager, this is the last inventory, if there were no mishaps or thefts on the road" the crew chief noted, and the rest nodded happily
"I do not want to miss the festival, I heard they serve red dragon as the main course. I always wanted to know its taste."
"At this rate, there will be nothing left until we get there"
"So can we speed up?"
The crew chief looked at them:
"I do not think it will last if we increase its speed. We need to get the liquid quickly."

As soon as he said this, the owl-pixie came back from the mountain direction and landed on one of the arms of the crew. But they were all terrified:
"White crawlers!" Shouted the worker who belonged to the owl-pixie, and they were startled
"Get ready, we're going to fulfill your request!" He took a spear and stuck it in one of the opening holes of the automaton, and turned it, causing it to increase its speed. The cart began to shake as the crew began arming themselves with steel bows and spears.
As they galloped across the stone-filled surfaces, white ant-scorpion-like white creatures rushed at a distance from their speed. They did not remain indifferent to their appearance and the archers began to shoot at them. One of the arrows hit the creature's head, but that did not stop it.
"They increase the pace!" One of them said while they managed to get to the trail that leads to the mountains.
"We're close to a choke point. We need to delay them as much as possible before we cross that point!" The crew chief shouted as they continued to shoot arrows and managed to shoot down one of them, but soon became overwhelmed, and with him, as they galloped up the mountain, the arrows began to run out.
"Fast! We're starting to lose speed" complained one of the workers who started pointing the spear in the direction of one of the creatures who managed to get them, and impaled him into his chest, which began to leak white matter like blood, before he pushed him down and knocked him off the cliff.
The cart began to shake from most of the stones and the automaton began to lose speed, and the entire crew noticed this.
"We'll be there soon! Don't fall apart!" The crew chief shouted at the automaton.

The creatures quickly approached as a result of all the arrows running out and even started jumping on the cart, but some missed, and some were impaled. But even that was not enough to stop their movement and in the distance two cliffs rose in front of a small dirt path. Everyone saw this and knew they were close to their exit. One of them sent the owl-pixie to the top of the cliff and ordered him to collapse the rocks that were there while they were almost captured by the herd of White crawlers.
Stumbling on one stone, the automaton lost its equilibrium and collapsed to the ground, and the cart with it trampled the rusty automaton, which due to the collision, disintegrated into pieces as the cart continued to move. Luckily all the containers did not come out of place. But now the creatures have managed to get them.
At one moment a great noise is heard as the crew sees the stones collapse and begin to crush the creatures and crew members alike. A large portion of the crew did not survive while only four, including the crew chief, attempted to skewer those who remained. With one skewer in their head, they managed to kill the creatures while they perched in the white liquid that flowed from them. The goods survived, but they were all broken and they were lucky. One of them cried as he saw the hand of one of his friends rise from the stones. The chief soon consoled him:
"The world is cruel, and we live in it" and went to unload the containers from the unloaded cart, and soon the rest of the survivors joined him, while the owl-pixie wandered upstairs, looking for his owner.
In the background, the airship that was supposed to pick them up was imitating them, if it were not for the white creatures that would have chased them as soon as they landed, and with him his technicians waited, realizing what had happened and helping the crew drag the tanks into the airship.
"I hope it's worth the money" one of the survivors remarked as he boarded the ship. And with him, the chief spoke to the technicians:
"I guess this is the last shipment the federation needs. This vicious substance has caused us enough trouble," said one of the technicians.
"Indeed it is so" the chief noted: "Since they asked for the material, troubles have begun to appear: our land is suffering from falling stones out of nowhere, has destroyed several villages. There have also been thefts of the same material mysteriously. The world is falling apart."
"Maybe that's why they called the festival 'The Festival of the End' the other technician laughed at him as he rolled the containers into the ship.
"I still do not understand one thing: why would they want this stuff?"
"Nullvers are a mysterious substance, I do not know why anyone would want them. This sticky substance behaves the way it wants, Started sailing to the sky, towards one place they know their needs are waiting for: The Demon island.
