《Without horizon》Chapter Two - Rush

"Why did you find out you were so upset?" I tried to calm him down.
"I can not tell here, they must not know here"
"The fact that you're behaving here is just suspicious of things if it's not allowed to tell here, now come into the airship, tell me why you are so" I replied as I entered, being dragged by him. In a few moments, we waited for them to finish unloading all the finds into the ship and quickly sailed into the air. My partner's body movement only raises my concern about what he wants to say.
"Good good good good" he just started to calm down: "While you went to help them with the findings, we discovered something worrying about one of the last tests we did"
"Which of the tests?"
"Those who measure the concentration of mana in the air"
"How bad is it? Did you check that the devices are working? Did you do another test elsewhere?" I tried to calm him down
"That's the thing, there was no data! I replaced all the instruments, checked the integrity, and measured myself and all the workers numerous times, everywhere on this island!"
"What is it you say? Such a thing can not disappear in a spontaneous moment!"
"No it's worse, there are reports all over the federation, we asked them on mana radio about the data truths, and they returned the same answer - no data"
"More than that" he continued: "Because of this, they started announcing an emergency meeting and asked you to attend it, to view all the information we collected"
I just got the token, and after hearing all this, I sat on one of the chairs in the area and thought about what I heard:
"Mana that disappears in one day, it's impossible. Something that is part of nature that is just torn away and erased from existence so it does not make sense" I challenged myself and then I remembered something:

"But if all the flow of mana is gone, then how can we, the Larmyah, magical creatures that exist on that same energy, not suffocate at this very moment?"
"I do not know how to explain this, sir" he sits and is silent, probably thinking of some answer to answer
"Do not worry, I will get to the depth of it as soon as we get there. Just one question: when is this meeting?"
"In 5 hours"
"What ?! This whole flight takes the same amount of time, and by the time I got to my office, it was too late to even gather the required information! You could not send anything else ?!" I shouted angrily
"There's no one else, everyone went on vacation, and in addition, no one but you has the authority to be there, they determined."
I walk in circles on board, annoyed by all things. Now another bigger headache than the previous one, and I immediately turned to my partner:
"Do we have a radio here? I want to report to everyone to prepare and gather all the information and pass it on to me at the meeting point. In addition, I want them to change the route straight to the meeting place, I guess it's in the capital." I ordered it
He nods in approval and straight runs to do whatever it takes, while I sit back, trying to think of everything:
"Why do they need me?"
The flight felt longer than usual because of all the problems that arose, but thanks to the radio, I was able to reach everyone who was in the area and they started working, while one of them stayed in touch with me throughout the flight.
"All the information you requested was collected" in every soft from the radio I was told.

"Excellent, ask someone to come to the meeting point and bring me the documents before the meeting, I want to see them well before it starts" I just hung up while I went to my room on the airship and went to sleep, at least from the short time I had left.
Moments later, one of the crew woke me up and announced that we were in peace landing, and I took this opportunity to get organized and peek out the window at the capital:
A beautiful city founded after the Federation was established, where all the familiar races from different islands live in it, experience the day-to-day and try to lead to a better place, at least so I think. Just a small tremor symbolizes the landing and with it, I went out. At the airship landing, one of the workers in my group was waiting for me, with all the documents, she noticed I had found her
"Here you are Drax" she replied with a smile as she handed them to me.
"Thanks for the hard work, I quite hate the fact that they force us to spur on to do almost impossible tasks in such a short time"
"No problems sir, I'm just doing what we're commanded" as if it was not serious.
"Excellent, if so, you can accompany an old man to this meeting. I'd love to know what all this fuss is about before it starts."
"No problems" she said as she accompanied me. She looks young, after all, she's a new employee. What was her name? I sometimes forget names. No longer young I guess...
"Remind me of your name?"
"Qiqi" she answered quickly
"So Qiqi, what was the data that came from the device? Is it true that all mana levels are gone?"
"It's true, I saw this in my eyes, while they were like mountain toads, bouncing out of fear"
"So there are theories as to why this is so?"
"I've heard some workers say it's probably something temporary, and the levels are supposed to return to normal shortly, others say it's probably because of the dragon attacks that have intensified recently, stealing all the mana to intimidate."
"I do not remember a real dragon being able to take a monstrous amount of energy from the environment for a miniature thing like burning small islands" I joked: "Did you also ask the Roccs about the change in concentration?"
"Yes, we asked them, but that's the weird part: they did not feel any change in effect in concentration"
How did these giant birds feel no change? It just feels just like the question I asked on the ship, he did not come back to me with an answer.
"Anyway, is that all the information I need?"
"Yes, we collected everything we had available, but it still needs a deeper investigation."
"And do you have any idea why we were summoned in this case, without reporting what?"
She denied
"Excellent, all that remains is to know what's going on there" We just got to the hall where the emergency meeting took place, and from there I said goodbye to Qiqi and advanced into the building.
"What in the abyss are they plotting to speak there?"

Forced Development (What does it truly mean to live a fulfilling life?)
To get things started I would like to admit that this story does not bring much new to the table when it comes to the over-saturated Litrpg genre in terms of things like mechanics and power systems. Then what exactly am I trying to bring to the table with this work? A nice slow-paced novel about people maturing and growing older think of it as the re: zero or jobless reincarnation of Litrpgs. A story that tries to take into consideration how a worldwide system would affect the economics and culture of a world. A story that is much more character-focused than the typical heavy progression-focused novels this genre is known for. The RPG system, like any good power system, is there to actually explore the themes of the story and not just as a plot device for characters to get stronger. This is a story where we will see the growth of the Mc from being a baby to when he dies of old age. With plenty of heart-racing actions and intriguing plot developments along the way. Exploring themes like; What does it mean to improve at something and what does it mean to mature as a person? How does magic, the constant threat of monsters and people so much stronger than the average joe that they can destroy countries affect one's culture both on the micro and the macro scale? How people are affected by the culture in general? Generational trauma Nature vs Nurture Talent vs hard work What is morality, society, and people's opinions on both? What does it mean to be human and what does it mean to be alive in the context of a world with multiple sapient species vastly different from one another in basic biology? All these questions are going to be explored from multiple angles using the system as a catalyst for those discussions. So if any of does questions sound interesting to you what are you waiting for, I'm sure you are going to love this story. PS - Chapter come out every Friday at about the same time.
