The lizard was in a glass jar. It had been placed there by some humans. When it had resolved to seek knowledge, it had decided to challenge the cat. That poor, sheltered orange cat was no match against a battle-hardened lizard that was half its size! The lizard routed the cat, and was marking its territory when it was telekinetically levitated into a glass jar. It was now being inspected by various magical devices. This older man, brown hair, spectacles, aristocratic clothing, was taking down notes, and mumbling things.
“..extreme talent, for a lizard. No special lineage, potential for guided awakening. Overall a surprising gift from All-things.” The man, Baron Amrei, finished his scribblings and stood himself up. He walked out of the laboratory.
Some time later he came back with a little boy that looked similar to him, but without the spectacles.
“Jeremy, say hello to your new battle beast.” Baron Amrei presented the lizard proudly.
Jeremy looked at the tough-looking lizard, and then looked back at his father. He raised his eyebrows.
Amrei tilted his head. “Son, don’t look at me like that. It’s tougher than it looks. Listen, if it doesn't work out I will get you that golden bell beetle you’ve been asking for.”
Jeremy’s eyes widened. He then looked at the lizard. “Can I try to tame it?”
“Sure, you remember the taming spell right?” Amrei laughed.
Jeremy rolled his eyes. He had had repeated failures at taming creatures. He dreamt of becoming a famous tamer, but he had a weak soul, and a view so narrow the only way he could think to strengthen it was via brute force. He began whispering in a magical tongue. Then his soul sent out a projection towards the lizard.
The soul of the lizard was the same as before, but slightly bigger, and with a confident look in its eyes. Jeremy’s soul, a plain old humanoid projection, appeared in front of the lizard. Jeremy was only slightly larger in this form.

“Wow.” Jeremy was a little shocked. He then materialized a club, and began mercilessly beating the lizard. “Become my servant! Become my servant! Become my servant!” He kept yelling repeatedly.
The lizard attempted to avoid the strikes, and retaliate, but Jeremy was surprisingly nimble. Eventually, the beating became annoying enough that the lizard let out a roar. “ENOUGH!”
Jeremy floated back. “You spoke!”
The lizard huffed. “You were doing it, so why can’t I?”
Jeremy relaxed his posture, and dematerialized the club. “Hey, let's sign a contract.”
The lizard glared at him. “What is that?”
“A promise, you help me I help you.” Jeremy replied.
“How can you help me?” the lizard asked.
Jeremy smiled. “I can give you knowledge, power, and a name.”
“What do you need from the almighty me!” The lizard raised its head.
Jeremy chuckled, and nodded. “Strength!”
The lizard considered for a moment, and then considered for another. “Deal.”
Jeremy, and the lizard shook hands.
In the material world Jeremy lifted up the glass jar, and the lizard crawled out of it, and onto his hand. “Your name is Sandwich.”
Sandwich did not know how to feel about that.
