《Tales of the Underground - The Game》Chapter 7

Gus McGill was badly wounded. The electric cloud had took him by surprise and despite Frye's best efforts, his leg still lost blood. Now he wandered through the darkness, looking for a spot to hide in. His shotgun was lying somewhere in the electric cloud. He needed to gather his strength, wait until his body stopped shaking and for this damned cloud to disappear.
He found a tall, upright box, almost like a coffin. Upon closer examination, he discovered that it's lid could be opened like a door. It opened without a sound. What he found inside was even more surprising. The box contained enough space for a person and an additional stash of supplies. He found bottles with chloroform and morphine, a hunting knife and a lamp. Quickly he stepped inside and closed the door behind him. Utterly blind he tried to find the morphine in the dark.
Just as he found it, he stopped. He heard something. The dreadful silence of the labyrinth carried a something to him, that sounded like slow, careful and somehow muffled breathing.
It had to be close. McGill found a slit in the wood and peeked through it. Someone had dropped his or her lantern in the main room and it's light spread to the corners of the labyrinth.
Then he saw it. At first he only saw black shadows moving slowly on the ground. Then something red appeared behind them. A creature with black eyes and red body crawled over the ground, barely making any noise. It had no face, only those two glistening eyes. It had no mouth, but still McGill could hear it breathe.
Slowly the creature passed his hiding place and disappeared around the next corner. McGill didn't know how long he waited until he finally left this untimely coffin.

Now armed with the hunting knife, he went to find his colleagues. First he would return to the main room. He looked around the lid corner. The room was empty. Even the deadly cloud was gone. It could have been his imagination, but he thought he saw something moving at the other side of the room.
"Gus."
A voice whispered behind him. He turned around a looked into a pair of black eyes.

8 112Era Of The Kobold
Era of the Kobold Returning July Third! Hi there! Thought I forgot about this series, didn't you? In all seriousness, I am sorry for not posting in such a long time. I've been really busy with other things, mainly my education. However, once July hits and I get the time needed to write, I'll be continuing EotK where we left off. It'll be the regular one chapter a week at least, though I'll try to post more frequently for that month. Hopefully you all have been doing well! I'll see you in July. Synopsis: All he wanted was to spend his life gaming. Samuel was an absolute nerd when it came to video games, RPGs especially. He'd play them all day, rarely leaving his house, or even his room for that matter. His peaceful days were sadly ended before he even finished college, however. Despite his expectations, he finds himself reincarnated in a new world as a Kobold. He must now live a hard life as a weak creature that tends to die young and is seen as a monster. How will he manage in this new life and what will he do with it? The rate of publishing will slow down, as I focus on my education.

During the wars, there were rumors about random portals leading to different worlds. At first, they were neglected due to the ongoing conflicts, but as the battles dwindled down to minor skirmishes, it was finally noticed by the human population. Now, with the earth at peace, all governments and organizations encourage the people who find these portals to go through them, stating that behind them is a paradise, a land with unlimited resources and absolutely free of war. Lorn knew these proclamations were nonsense; he even knew there was danger behind those portals, yet, he still chose to pass through. What he didn't know was, passing through the different worlds, he will track monsters, meet different lifeforms, experience unimaginable terrains, maybe even find a new goal in life, but first, he will like to figure out how the hell he ended up in a cell.
