The parents of the Blanc borthers. The pair were killed by Gutter Vipers thugs after failing to repay the exorbitant interest on a loan Gregory took out.

Positive to a fault, Anthony defines himself by bringing a smile to the faces of others.
Anthony was given the alias Iustus, meaning justice.
Paul "Libertas" Blanc – 23 – Manicured appearance, spikey brown hair
Paul takes every opportunity to hurl good-natured insults at his brothers. He is less mature than some, and often sulky, but when the mood takes him he can be the life and soul of a room.
Paul was given the alias Libertas, meaning liberty.
Alexander "Ultor" Blanc – 21 – White hair aged by trauma, missing eye, hand and leg
Subdued, quiet and contemplative. Alex has always lived more in his books than in Tartarus.

Unaffiliated
Terrence Lorcie – 35 – Independent – Brown hair, clean-shaven, well groomed

Christine Meyers – 24 – Aide to Terrence Lorcie
As Terrence’s aide, Christine has a number of duties, ranging from editing his speeches to keeping a constant supply of coffee on the go. Her work ethic is unparalleled. She quietly holds hope that working for Lorcie will springboard her own career in media.
Percival Armitan – 62 – Judge – Thinning grey hair, pinched cheeks
Judge Armitan is a seasoned man of the law, and as such has been appointed with the unenviable task of presiding over the court case of Simon Alastair Blanc.

Locations:
Tartarus
Tartarus is one of only a few remaining mega-metropolises. It is a concrete and metal monstrosity of winding highways and walkways that keep the lower levels of the city in near perpetual darkness. Outside of the city the landscape is picked clean by excavators, combing the planet’s surface for every last scrap of resources.
Tartarus’ original name has been lost to history, and it is known now only by the distasteful slur by which its residents refer to it.
The Summit
The literal top-end of Tartarus. The Summit describes the penthouses and spires that pierce high enough into the sky to receive genuine sunlight. It houses the upper echelons of society
The Pits
The lower recesses of Tartarus. Networks of highways and bristling columns of skyscrapers obscure the sun. The Pits’ residents scarcely see natural light, save for a few blissful minutes at noon. The people there are pariahs, ignored by all respectable society and left to the mercy of syndicates and cartels.
The Hovels
Essentially a giant squatter camp, with prefab buildings stacked one atop another, or clinging to the sides of apartment blocks like tumors.
Factions:
The Gutter Vipers - Small time loan sharks, this gang makes its money and gets its kicks through debt collection. They operate out of a casino called The Lucky Table.

Sanguine
The Coles are probably the definition of a small dysfunctional family, even if they weren’t the worst in existence; they would probably be lauded as an example of the term. The Coles were a small family though. The father, Oliver Cole, was an asshole ex-football jock who bounced around in small paying jobs after wasting most of his life drinking, drugging and whoring. The daughter, Stacy Cole, was smart, but had many issues including anger, trouble with authority, and occasional suicidal thoughts, and was kicked out of many a school for disruptive behaviour. The son, Mike Cole, was innocent, and tried his best to be kind to anyone and everyone, however his own speech impediment, and slow nature only aided people to bully and belittle him, including his own father. The Coles were indeed a dysfunctional family. At least they were, until they got to the small town near the border between the United States and Canada, Sanguine. Welcome to Sanguine. You will stay. With the exception of the first chapter, each chapter only follows one character. The first chapter is the only chapter in which I will include 'Sides' where it follows a different character. This is a short Lovecraftian story, it won't go above seventeen chapters. Note: the book cover is my first attempt, it might not even remain like it is, I was just tired of seeing the standard 'no cover' thing on it.
