It was hard work going down the mountain, along the meandering path, fully cognisant of his surroundings and footing. After a few hours of walking his body was beginning to suffer, he was extremely thirsty and over heated. He had taken off his blazer hours ago, in order to have some relief.
Now the sun was beginning to go down, and Luke had not reached the bottom of the mountain yet. "This path goes on and on forever, why can't i reach the bottom? Am I making any progress at all?". The sun has started to go down, so I had better find shelter of some sort, but where ? he mumbled to himself.
Luke looked for a suitable place to sleep for the night. He scanned the area, he noticed a tunnel in some rocks, not quite a cave, but an overhang surrounded by smaller rocks. He moved up to that area and studied it to find evidence of life, sure it was empty, he lay down, covered himself with his blazer.
He rested i the red light of the setting sun, his body tired, hungry and parched. thoughts swirling with worries and wonder, fear and trepidation he had a fitful night trying to sleep.
During the night, he had a visitor, he did not know whether it was real or a dream. This visitor was light, ethereal and beautiful. the being had no features as such, just man shaped light, the light gave Luke a feeling of peace. The visitor instructed Luke to crawl to the back of the sleep area and pull a hole in it, and he was to do this in the morning, with the promise of help and direction to safety.
For the rest of the night, Luke slept peacefully, the lumpy floor no longer interfered with his comfort, his snoring was loud and echoed in the small space.

The morning broke, he awoke with a feeling of peace. "why am i feeling to peaceful? was that dream real, did i really meet someone in my dreams ? should I do what he instructed? hmmm?".
He decided to get up, he stood in the morning sunshine and took a deep breath, cool crisp air filled his lungs. "It is still kind of nippy, Brrrrr".
Luke had made a decision, he would do as instructed.

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image
